Is there a thin wire belly weighted EWG hook for flukes that isn’t as expensive as Zman’s or Mustad’s?

Featured Replies

Zman & Mustad both have great belly weighted swimbait hooks for fluke rigging, but both are unfortunately stupidly expensive. $7+ for 3 hooks is outrageous, especially the way I’m fishing them.

1/8 oz is just enough to reach bottom and so while I typically get a bit more use out of these than neds they have a finite lifespan.  I can’t seem to find any cheaper options than these two brands, Gammy has one but it’s their powerline hooks for braid. In fact these are the ONLY two brands I seem to be able to find, anyone got any ideas for me?

I am using to reach smallmouth in anywhere from 3-10 ft of water with a 4” Zman Jerk Shadz, usually with current. Thanks!

Gamakatsu Weighted Hook works fine for fluorocarbon line too.  I often use it for FC.

As light at 1/16th oz

Bps makes a weight called xps hook weights designed for keel weighting so you can make your own, just clamp them onto your hook of choice. They make them from 1/16 to 1/2oz.

I have some belly weighted hooks by Davis, had them awhile, that seem to be lighter wire than most.

Ya, Zman sucks because of that. They wind up like a rubber band on screw locks. Oh, and they melt everything they touch.  Ever tried using JJ's Magic on them?  They dissolve! LOL

I gave all my Zman baits away and won't use them again. Too much hassle.

Couldn’t you just take the screw lock off the gammy?

I suppose yes

I use these. You can use the stick pin or without pin or screw lock, just stick the eye of the hook thru the front of the bait. Puncture a hole in the head of the bait with the hook first. The lead will keep the bait in place.

They hold up well to the bite for sure.

Exactly I can get 20 fish on one bait, and unless I get hung up get multiple trips.

I bought some of these to try, thanks. Do you think these will impart a different action being shorter and the weight more concentrated than traditional belly weights?

Have you tried a regular ewg in the size you like with some lead golf tape?  Cheaper overall and you can experiment with where the weight goes.

I don't see that being a factor.

That’s a thought, better than the xps lead pinch on weights?

Better? Maybe the same in outcome. Definitely more expensive.

Unfortunately the screw locks are a no go with ElaZtech.

This part had me questioning because you said fluke.

I bought these weights on Amazon, are these the same as the BPS XPS hook weights? Additionally, will either of these jury rigged options impart even slightly different action than factory weighted hooks? Thx!
