Which decals are required inside boat?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, trying to learn so bear with me.

which decals from the manufacturer are required inside the boat? My Cayman has a max weight limit and a preferred seating decal. Can these be removed if they are coming loose? Are their any required to stay other than registration stickers?

I like to have the capacity sticker - so when I was rebuilding Bass Trek I ordered a new one.

Just fill in the info from your current sticker when ordering.

Depends on your state, apparently

Personally - I'd rather be safe than sorry....it's not THAT expensive to replace the sticker.

Required stickers/decals on the inside?  Guess I'm not sure what's required on the inside.  My boat came with a Coast Guard stamp that shows weight capacity, passenger capacity, on plane passenger locations, max HP, etc.

Registration stickers and numbers are required on the outside of the hull in black lettering.

  • Required Decals:
The maximum weight capacity decal, also known as the capacity plate, is a requirement under the U.S. Coast Guard Federal Boat Safety Act. This plate indicates the maximum weight the boat can carry safely, including passengers, gear, and engine. It's crucial for safety. Additionally, any manufacturer-required seating decals, indicating where and how many people can be seated, are also safety-related and should be kept.

  • Registration Decals:
Many states require registration decals, which must be displayed on the boat's bow. These decals show that the boat is registered and allow for easy identification.

  • Decals that can be removed:
Decals that are not safety-related or legally required, such as promotional decals or personal ones, can be removed.

  • Dealing with Loose Decals:
If decals are coming loose, it's best to replace them with new, properly adhered ones. If a decal is missing or illegible, you must replace it immediately.

Regs say 'Block' lettering - nothing about color

"• Letters and numbers must be of a block character"

Obviously if you have a white hull, you would want to use dark lettering. Not white lettering. And vice versa. That’s kinda what I was getting at.

Those capacity stickers are comical, mine says 5 persons or 605 lbs .

Bunch of small people haha

The Hull Identification Number is a must. Game Warden asked me where mine was and I had no clue , so he found it for me. What a nice guy.

Under federal law, any boat less than 20 feet is required to have a capacity plate. https://www.desperatesailors.com/federal-law-boat-capacity-plate/
