I was out the other afternoon casting a fluke with my new steez reel and the bsr852GLX. Great combo, even if the rod isn't a steez.

Anyway a nice bass slammed the fluke. And started pulling out drag. It is so cool to have the rod fully loaded and the reel screaming BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz. loved it.

the evolution p line is less prone to line twist than some others and the steez also reduces it, but you still need to troll it out every so often. If you keep the twist out of your line, good quality spinning gear is a delight. Expecially with those lighter baits.

Ps the steez has more drag set points than any other reel I have ever seen. It's amazing how precise you can set it.

I also like the fact that it is built in a compact shape.  This means I have no problem "feathering" the line to make more accurate casts..

Aside from ease of use, this is a HUGE factor here on our very clear lake. Much more important than even line size is casting distance

I get my chops busted quite a bit because since coming to BR, I have been fishing my honey hole rather exclusively, using spinning gear rather exclusively. After doing so, I can't remember why I ever bought baitcasters before. Don't get me wrong, they definately have their places. Flippin/pitchin is non existant at our lake and this is pretty much the only thing I would use a b/c for nowadays.

I often get the argument that they are "weaker". I think not. I can tow a boat with some of the reels I have.

I just love spinning gear.

What about that Techna AV? Are you still throwing swimbaits with it?

I don't have a preference between baitcasting gear and spinning equipment, per se, but I have a STRONG preference for specific applications and technique. Generally, I fish baitcasting tackle for big baits and "moving" lures. For finesse and lighter presentations, it's spinning tackle for me.

Actually this is eerily similar to me last year. I thought avid and I shared the same views on spinning gear ...... traitor ;D. Anyways, last year I decided to give spinning gear one more try and purchased about the best quality set-up I could afford. More than I had ever spent on a baitcasting set-up. For the first few months everything was great, and actually even enjoyed it a little but keep that on the hush hush. Then it took a turn for the worst. On back to back trips I lost would would have probably been my two biggest bass last year. So I said screw it and sold it off and got myself a Scorpion MG/Legend Tourney combo and everything is much better now. I lost those two fish mainly because of user error, but there is NO DOUBT in my mind that had I been using finesse baitcasting gear with the same conditions (line and drag settings) that I would have landed those two fish. It's just not worth it to me

Good luck with 'er avid. I do realize this is partly due to your shoulder condition. But please tell had you not have the shoulder condition, you would have opted for the Steez BC.  Right???

I have the same combo- steez 2500/GLX BSR852.  Amazing, I finally got a chance to fish it last weekend.  I know it is a bunch of $$$ but wow was it amazing, I can cast that thing a country mile.

I bought my first spinning reel for fresh water only this past year as a result of this board. I have always been a die hard baitcaster in fresh water. Only used spinning gear in salt water and then only cheap ones that could be thrown away when the salt got them. I must admit that I am a hard won convert, like Avid. I am enjoying the Stella on the Loomis drop shot rod and I built a Loomis SJ722IMX for the Twin Power. I'm still 8 to 3 bc over spinning but I am discovering the best of both worlds.

Spinning outfits definitely have their place.  I too prefer the baitcaster.

I really like both outfits and they have there benefits!  Nothing better than a good working combo BC or spinning!

That bsr852 is the best rod I've ever used.  Its a great senko, fluke, small jig rod.  Just fishes so easily.

Nothing like a small tube on a good spinning rig for post cold front conditions.

for bass fishing i only use spinning combos. for striper fishing, i use abu garcia baitcasters
