haha..I do wish my Japan rods would come with the occasional bait-keeper tab.  (what do Japanese fishermen do?)

I've looked into the Fuji-bait-keeper, but the price tag feels annoying for such a mundane thing.  I've seen the one that comes on high end Daiwa Rods from afar.  it looks like the Fuji version.

I'm bouncing down a jeep trail tomorrow to get to a kayak lake.  I already tied up my baits.  this was the best I could come up with. :D  form follows function.

You can also just hook the bait to the frame if the 1st guide.

in the kayak yes.  in the truck no..everything is in rod sleeves.   and we really should be eating more greens. :D

last time I looked they were $7(?)...I balked.  that is more palatable.

I'll buy them in Japan.

I bought a pack of 30 of these on Amazon for around $12.00 a few years back.IMG_4847.png.fcb78fa8a654f1f90920e565f32ad8b5.png

I did too, but the o-rings that came with them don't last long before breaking so I stopped using them.

Are you having that issue?

I don't have that issue with the Fuji ones shown above. I think the Amazon ones just have cheap crappy o-rings

@FrnkNsteen I also have/had that issue . I thought at first it was because my rods spend the fishing season in the garage but they even broke when stored inside for the off season. So I just bought 2 packs of IMG_4848.png.267f35642f6f1bfc40d614fb6ce3646c.pngthese instead 😉

Interesting discussion. I've been thinking about doing the ziptie and split ring on one of my rods so I can remove the keeper as it's in a bad spot for me.

The fuji keepers are like $3 and worth every penny.  I put them on every SW rod, even if they have a built in keeper.  I wash my gear after every use, but on some rods the keeper is really hard to keep free of corrosion right at the blank.

I used to use asparagus bands for DS weights, but most of my DS rods either have the little Daiwa hook which is the best style of keeper for a DS IMO, or I put a fuji keeper on them.  I keep a band on my blank anyway to use on the spool when I clean the rod after using it.

Used to steal my GFs hair ties, they work well too.

This is because many keepers are an inferior grade of stainless steel.  Even for us rodbuilders, the grade of stainless is never mentioned on keepers offered by the components companies, and I noticed the inferior corrosion performance many years ago.  I use high grade SS single foot fly guides or titanium keepers on all my builds now.  It's pretty easy to wrap a single foot fly guide onto a rod, and might be the beginning of a new and rewarding hobby, so I suggest those wanting keepers to try it.  Building your own opens so many doors to enjoying the fishing.  You can better match the power and action you want, you can get the ergonomic features you want, you can get the look you want, and you can get the quality level of components you want.

I use two 4" ty wraps. Also have used a ty wrap with a split ring. I have tried the commerical ones but the o-rings kept breaking.
