Do you want moderate or fast action for bladed jigs and spinnerbaits?

@Banned User Falcon expert head turner (6’10”, 1/4-3/4 H/F), shimano met, 16# supernatural.  The rod is a ‘heavy’ per falcon, but it is a 6-power falcon heavy which means a lighter heavy compared to most.  It is like a bigger MH and I’d call it a 1/4-1 lure rating if it were me.  Still definitely fast action with a lot of power pushing into the top 25-30% of the rod.  Lure of choice is an Evo, either 3/8 or 3/8 tungsten with a 4” spunk shad.

  • It’s a good question made more difficult due to one’s MF may be more akin to another’s MHMF. But I normally use a MF or a MHF for bladed jigs.

  • The action is where the rod bends.  A fast action rod has a fairly light tip that transitions into the power section of the rod quickly.  A slow or moderate action rod will have a proportionally stiff

I for one am looking forward to hearing how this works out for you as well as hoping it works out in your favor 👍🏻

Dang @BrianMDTX, sorry to hear that.

Not very many people know or use the word maw, props for that.

I use a 13 Fishing Fate Med/mod. In my old age I have started to go to the lightest gear I can get and still get the job done. I used to be at least a MH/F or stiffer for everything but through the years I've learned I enjoy the fight alot more when I have to actually play the fish and can't just horse him to the boat.

The worst it could do is give me an excuse for a new rod lol.

I'll make it even more confusing... I like an OLD rod.  For spinnerbaits and chatterbaits ( 1/2 oz) I use an old G. Loomis IMX spinnerbait rod that is really broken in.  The carbon fibers have relaxed and the rod has changed from a MH Fast to a somewhat moderate... Works great.

No more excuse for buying a new rod !

Please post your impressions afterward, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts. A Fury 705CB rod is my dedicated lipless rod, but I felt it didn't have the backbone for a bladed jig, the 6 power Dobyns CB would fare better (in my mind).

moderate fast.  since its a moving bait on a taut line, I find I dont need fast-fast.

I just need it sensitive enough to feel the lure doing its thing and if it hits grass.  needs enough backbone to yank it thru the veg.

my BanderSnatch is proving perfect for this.

As long as there's no weeds or rocks or dock pilings right there i think you just identified a greater issue that will really help you land more bass. Stick your tip in bro!

You can even put almost the whole thing in if you want to

There's nothing wrong with sticking your tip in, it'll dry off by the time you get home and nobody needs to know but you

@HawkeyeSmallie You want me fluff your pillow?

I mean, that's typically not my thing.

But since you asked, do you live by good water and how big is your boat?   😂

I’ve posted this a few times before- I have on occasion used this rod to fish a weightless Texas rig with a heavy bait, like a Fat IKA or a Neko Macho. I don’t fish a lot of treble baits as they get fouled too often by algae or tons of pine needles. I got tired of barely using this rod so I figured I’d try it and see. To my surprise, it did a great job. Not what I expected.

Have to see how it handles a bladed jig. I normally use a Rage Menace as a trailer so nothing overly heavy. Maybe a Rage Craw at times.

Used it yesterday. Caught two-lost one. After the loss, I went to resharpen the hook and noticed the gap was bent open. I guess the big gal I hooked last week bent the hook. It was the last Siebert Fogy I had in chartreuse/white. I had a Z-Man in that color, and a Fogy in red, but neither caught a fish. Red is not a color here and there is a tremendous difference in the amount of vibration between these two bladed jigs. You can barely feel the Z-Man and the rod tip barely moves. The Fogy is on steroids. The rod tip really vibrates and you can feel it plain as day. In the stained water I fish, I’m guessing that vibration and that color combo is simply the ticket. I ordered more after I got home yesterday.

As for the rod? That remains to be seen. I believe I lost fish using either rod due to the bend in the hook gap. So when I get the replacements I will try again. But my feelings from yesterday is telling me that although a MH, it feels more like a M. Definitely a MF vs. a F action. I may also try them on a MHF rod (either another Daiwa Aird-X or maybe my Falcon Lowrider) and see how that works. I’m thinking the 705CB is likely great at what it says it’s for- crankbaits with treble hooks.

I had a 705 cb. Used it with 30# braid. It was my favorite spinnerbait chatter bait rod until I broke it. I feel it definitely needs braid for those two baits though.

I had a Fury 705cb and have a champ 706cb.  I totally agree with your assessment.

This also aligns with my experience.  No stretch line with a softer rod works, add a leader in and it feels too soft for me.
