Local addiction enabler started stocking them.  Glanced at a couple this afternoon, seemed to be decent enough.

Worth the $$ or junk?

I have two CastAway rods  ;)

CSAP68 Sport Series Med. Heavy All Purpose Length: 6' 8 Line Class: 10 to 17 lbs. Lure Weight: 5/16 to ¾ oz.

Castaway CSB66 Medium Heavy Bait Cast Length: 6' 6 Line Class: 8 to 14 lbs. Lure Weight: ¼ oz to 5/8 oz.

I use the CSB66 for spinner baits and the CSAP68 my son uses as worm rod; they work just fine.

The XP 3 Series and XP 3 Series Titanium Series are even better

I have one Castaway that I found in a tackle shop about 10 years ago.  It's not the more expensive model, just a plain 6'6" MH that I've used for spinnerbaits ever since.  Totally satisfied with it.

Castaway recently bought out Airrus.

I suspect the Airrus line to go down hill, rather than the Castaway to improve.

Just IMHO

Avid,

Where is it that you get all this inside info on Rod makers???? For someone that claims to only fish Loomis, you know alot about all these other companies' products, goals, and production practices...... :-?

Just curious.

I believe Avid fishing Loomis, St. Croix as well as other rods.  It is not that hard to gain this knowledge if you read and follow the industry.  www.tackletour.com is a great source ;)

Yea if you don't mind bias reporting, or if you have an insiders link into what the big companies are doing, there is nothing about an Airrus buy out on TT.

I have the people I know in the rod building industry checking for more info..

I realize that you said in your opinion, but you have absolutely nothing to base that on.  Why throw stones and why be so negative?

Tackletour ranks right below the "water cooler" for factual industry information.

My cousin own several castaway, I think he has 3-4 rods. He also has some kistler, loomis, and a st. croix. He claim castaway the best for your money.

He loves his kistler more then loomis.

And avid, until you post source of your information your nothing but another guy that simiply hates either airrus or castaway.

Now since boyd duckett won the classic, airrus has made crapload of money with people ordering their rods. I know this because I've talked to ken whiting my self. If he making crapload of money off those rod why in world is just going simiply sell it over to castway? Either he ready to retired or he just pure dumb.

I still own and have owned a few Castaway standard graphites from back in the days that the Kitlers owned them. I have no complaints. I actually really like them though they can be expensive for standard graphite rods.

Castaway was bought out by Shakespeare years ago and their rods are nothing but rebranded Ugly Sticks.  It's a fact.  I read it on the interwebs  ;)

By the way, Avid doesn't "only fish Loomis".  Where do you think he got his username?

It really doesn't matter who owns what, the question was..

Three out of ten replies in favor..

I have never used a Castaway.

I thought I was alone in thinking that TackleTour is a junk website! I saw those guys at a sportsmans expo and everybody was clowning them behind their backs! It was hilarious! I always laugh when somebody uses a TT review as a resource.

OK...I agree...there reviews are  :;)...What I think REALLY stinks is there rating system.  I think I heard about the buyout on Tackletours "FORUM".  But as far as I know I could have been rumor.  The website does state that the Pres. Steped down.  The best thing about tackle tour is the pictures :(

call airrus rods and the phone will be answered castaway rods. i know cause i just ordered a puls-r. ken stepped down and is now working for a different company, btw i dont know ken or ever talked to him. this info from tt so take it as you will.

Tackletour is a joke, as is the majority of so-called "inside information" on the web or in magazines..... the 2 years I have been looking at this site, I also noticed the name and wondered why the majority of the time, I read a post by him on about rods, he is praising loomis or like the others bragging about being able to afford them :-???? even when someone can only afford a cheaper rod.

Questioning the remarks of Tenured members is obviously a no-no here unless you are one of them,Which I still dont think is a good reason for personal attacks by their groupies in other threads. :;)

Too each his own i agree about TT i made a post about ugly stiks talk about a mess ,but anyway did yall see the story about the megabass rods with a 1 yr warrenty and costing 300 plus bucks man talk about lookin for excuses ,i said it once ill say it again when u get past 150 bucks for a rod  its a wall hanger to me who gives a &%%t about a rod 7 foot  weighing 2 oz all it will do is BREAK when u need it most .all jokes aside i get lots of great info from TT forumites but bassresource is more compatible with me and the areas i fish seems like we are all in the same time zone here which too me provides way more REALTIME experiances  to share with each other. GOOD JOB BASSRESOURCE

i guess i must of read somthing rong because i didnt understand were this became an avid and a tt bash... i dont think he said anything rong and i'm sory but i didnt think you guys had grounds to bash him like that... sorry i may be out of place on this...but...thats the way i role

i have heard good things about castaway i have not expirenced them myself but my understanding is that they make a great universal rod...

hillbilly

For real man.   I try to respect other peoples opinions+views because that is what boards are all about.  As long as people aren't hating on one another.  Get enough of that in the real world.  I like TackleTour too..you take what information you want from any internet site it's the individual's choice on what he wants to believe or what sites to visit.  I just like to read and post about fishing stuff..don't matter if it is here or there as long as people respect each other...

Let's all wish for whirled peas. ;)

I'd like to get a Puls-R one of these days so I for one hope the Airrus rods don't go down the tubes as stated earlier

Please point out where Tackle Tour has been bias in reporting the facts!

Not only has Airrus been bought out, but Ken Whiting (former owner of Airrus) has signed with another company ;) ...........

WIZARD OF RODS SIGNS ON WITH CANADIAN BASED ELEMENT 21

Toronto, Ont. Canada Canadian based Element 21 announced today that Ken Whiting, dubbed THE WIZARD OF RODS by Field & Stream writer John Merwin, has been named Senior Vice President of Product Development and Vice President of it's newly formed tackle division, called E21 Fishing. In his new role Whiting will be responsible for the creation of several new rod lines to be marketed under the E21 Fishing brand as well as running the day to day operations of the new tackle division. Whiting, who is widely known and respected in the tackle industry for his innovation and technology brings to E21 some 27 years of successful product design and development experience. As stated by David Sindall, company spokesman for E21, we are extremely pleased to have Ken as part of our team. E21 has been interested in adding a tackle division to the company for quite some time, but we needed the right individual to head it up and we feel that Ken is just the guy to do it. Ken's designs are like a breath of fresh air, not only are they technologically solid, but they are also esthetically pleasing. With four Best of Show's in the rod category out of the five years he has been in the tackle industry, with three of them back to back, Ken's record speaks for itself. Sindall also said that in as much as E21 is primarily a golf company, Ken's extensive background in club head and shaft design is going to be of tremendous value to us as we move forward in the golf industry which is every bit as competitive as the tackle industry and like the tackle industry is always looking for something new.

E21 Fishing will have a presents at ICAST 2007 where it will unveil its new product lines and will also be holding a pre-show press conference at which time media and retailers will have an opportunity to meet E21 principals and be afforded an overview of the companies plans for E21 Fishing in the future. Further details regarding the press conference will be released at a later date.

Whiting said, in a closing statement, I want to invite everyone to stop by the E21 booth (2007) and find out what our new company is all about. We have some great things in the works and will be introducing what I believe is the most exciting technology for rod building I have ever been introduced to. I thought Nano tech was something else but this new technology beats it hands down. Stop by you won't be disappointed.
