Daiwa reel on Shimano rod

Featured Replies

Is there a particular reason no one has Daiwa reels mounted on a Shimano rod. I don't think I have heard one person on this site talk about a combo they have of this kind. Maybe I am wrong, but please respond if you have a combo like this.

Not in that order, but i have a shinano reel on a daiwa rod

its my lake michigan salmon setup

I certainly can't think of one. You always want balanced tackle, but brands aren't part of that equation. Unless there's something I'm missing, the important factors are line size, type and weight of lures used, balance and other factors not related to brand.

Some guys do want to match up brands, to me it does not matter. Getting ready to put a Citica 200E on a Vendetta rod.

I have three Shimano Convergence rods, 9' to 12'-6", all with Daiwa reels mounted to them.  The Convergence series are great steelhead rods.

steez 100's and 103's on gloomis here.

it only stings the first few minutes.

1 season with the Sol/Compre and i love it. i just bought the Cumara, but it fished very well in the store.

In response to this and Brian, according to abu's website the vendetta rods are factory tuned to balance with revo's. Not sure how much truth there is in that statement by abu since there are all different weights and sizes of revo's but supposedly they're meant to match. Thats not to say you cant mix brands.

I used to have a shimano brand spinning reel mounted on my shimano compre rod with the nice cutout in the foregrip that i really like because it's comfortable and exposes the tip of your finger to the blank for extra sensetivity. I bought a pflueger supreme to mount on the shimano rod and it doesnt work out as nicely. The distance between the support arm on the reel and cutout in the foregrip is too great and you either have to stretch out your hand or have only your pinky finger below the reel's support arm. I like to match brands between rod and reel when possible.

NorCalFishinguru, I would believe the factory tune statement if there was a specific rod for a specific reel. Its just marketing.

That was my exact suspicion. They just mentioned revo+vendetta im pretty sure. Its just like how abu reels come with a slip of paper advising the buyer to spool up with stren, spiderwire, or trilene for best results because pure fishing owns all of em, lol

Mixing brands of rods & reels isn't a big deal. What's important is to make sure the colors match   :D

I have some of the ugliest colors around...None of my reels and rods match...much less the same name brand on each other.

I can see people matching them just so it looks cool, but as a "must have to match" it's all marketing gimmick to sell their own brand.

Stella reel on a Steez rod.  Neither has melted yet.  ;D

So much for my attempt at humor   :D

The Vendetta may be a good rod, but that 'factory tuned' to balance with the Revos is a bunch of hooey. The Revos are in the ballpark with everyone else as far as weight is concerned.

That's actually allowed !  Especially since theres no steez 1000 spinning reel.

have a steez mounted on a cumara rod and i love it..

I tried that 1 time and quickly disassembled it cause it felt too good.

i have a steez on a 7'2 mh XF cumara.....its my frog setup......

i have a daiwa reel on a convergence... and a daiwa on a compre.

i love them both.

Who was the guy who put his push button on a steez rod?

Not quite that extreme but I have a BPS Pro Qualifier reel on a GLX Loomis - works for me! But I do have an extra Zebco 202 laying around...hmmmmm

At the end of the day, you want to put together a balanced outfit that will help you catch fish, I don't think the manufacturer matters as much as the efficacy of the gear.

And, in some cases, that might mean putting a spin-cast reel on a sensitive rod - if it works for you !

I wouldn't say its a "factory tune" type of deal, but no reel fits so perfectly on a Zillion rod as a Zillion reel.  The reel seat was designed with palming the reel in mind, and its place so that it is well balanced as well.
