im currently looking around for a good jerkbait rod...got about 150 to spend....any suggestions? casting only

As much as I hate the color, I'm fishing a Skeet now.  It's a great rod for the money, and I'm actually starting to disregard the comments about the rods.  Thus far, I'm impressed with it.  It has the right touch and tip for the way I fish jerkbaits, it isn't too tip heavy, and the components seem to be in order.

Before one of the guys convinced me to try the rods, I'd likely have been the biggest skeptic there could possible have been.  Being aware of the problems that W+J had with many of their OEM blanks was one of the leading factors.  Then I thought about it a bit.  If a guy like Reese is going to jump ship on a current company, a company that stood by him regardless, it led be to believe there was something that really was wrong.  I'm not bashing on Carrots, but let's look at it in a logical manner.  Just doesn't make sense that things went down as they did.

Anyhow, that's a good one, the Crucial CRC70ML is a good jerkbait rod, and the Avid ACAC70MHXF is a great rod, too.  The Avid's a little more money, but not dramatically out of range.

I use a St. Croix Avid 6'6" MF. It's not just a jerkbait rod but an multi-bait rod. If I could only have one rod this would be it. It retails for $180.00 but if you shop around you will find it in your price range. Check around and look at other makes like Falcon, All Star, Fenwick.... at $150.00 you will find a great rod.

I also use a 6'6" rod for jerk-baits, I also recommend a 6'6" Medium power,Fast action St Croix. I personally use a Legend Tournament, but I also have that same taper in the Mojo series and it's a good jerk-bait rod too, and much less $$.

I use a 6'6" M/F Shimano Compre. It's been perfect so far when I am throwing a Rapala X-rap. Landed several good ones with no problems at all. For $100 cost on this, you could save some money this way.  Also have a 6'6" St. Croix similar to that last post, but mine is not a Mojo, it's a Triumph. From what I've heard they have the same blank but I have yet to even fish it so I couldn't tell you how it would be. Compared to that Compre I have though, side by side, just "in hand" only for overall feel, I'd rather have the Shimano.

Hooligan,  You lost me ?  Reese jumped from a company that stood by him and you mention Carrot Sticks.  Reese fished Lamiglas since as far back as 1996 or further before endorsing his new line with W & M.  It's a business and Skeet's making money.  More lower to him. I use a 7' med St Croix Premier and I love jerkaits in the spring and fall.

I just bought a Dobyns Savvy Series 663c specifically for jerkbaits/spinnbaits/lipless cranks a couple months ago and it works great for these applications. Right at your price range.

Another vote for the AC66MF

The last 2 seasons, my jerkbait and topwater rod was the Avid AVC66MF. This rod is awsome. It has a good backbone and a soft tip that helps keep the fish hooked with those treble hooks. I don't feel any need for a better rod.

Great jerkbait rod right there.  I prefer a much shorter rod for this application and something with a soft tip so you don't rip the trebles out.

Although it's not a "high end" rod, I absolutly love my Cabelas Fish Eagle II rod for jerkbaits. 6'6" Med-heavy fast action. 80 bucks and it's butter
