Best Knot for Braid??

Recommended Posts

What's your favorite knot for braided line?

I typically use a palomar after having the clinch knot fail on me.  I've heard a double palomar is great but haven't tried it yet.

So far so good using the uni-knot. I haven't had any issues.

Improved Clinch, uni, palomar and the braid knot all work well...

Most the time I just use a palomar or Improved clinch. Wet the line is key when tightening braid.

I use braid all the time and have never had a problem with the standard palomar knot.

Tying on leaders I use the improved albright.

As everyone has said, palomar.  But if you can't do a palomar on a lure, like if it's a really big spook or something, I use a double improved clinch.  two loops through the eye, and then tie like a regular improved clinch.

On small baits, like jigs est..I use a palomar, for my bigger baits, i.e. 6 to 9" swimbaits..I use a improved uni knot. This is on 55lb braid. I do 6 twists on the uni knot.

I had this knot pull through twice on my using PowerPro 50lb...on fish....in a tournament....not good

Really?  did you go through the eye twice?  I go through the eye twice, twist 4 or 5 times, go through the bottom and back through the top...

I mainly use Spiderwire stealth 20, 30, and 65...  never had an issue.  I've straightened hooks and even broke a rod....

I'm 100% sold on the Berkeley Braid knot for braid-to-lure. In my own experience, the palomar breaks slightly before this knot (and yes I know how to properly tighten the palomar), and I believe the BBK won knot wars recently.

For braid to monofilament or fluorocarbon, I'd recommend Alberto's knot.

This one is basically a modified albright knot, very strong when tied and tightened properly.

No I wasn't going through the eye twice.

An update after a lot of fishing - I've been using a double palomar and the Berkley Braid Knot and neither has failed me. Thanks guys!

I always used to just use an improved clinch, but I'm starting to really like palomar knots.  They're easy to tie and seem pretty strong.

When I first started using braid I would tie the palomar and double palomar and never had a problem.

Last year I started using the reverse clinch knot which I have used for over 30 years for mono and have not had a problem. I can tie this knot a lot faster than the palomar.
