So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?

Featured Replies

Catt, if this post is to far outside of the scope of this topic and thread please feel free to say so are ask me to delete it but I have to speak up about something I just seen on the Bend.

THIS IS A HELPFUL WARNING TO ALL THE FOLKS FISHING THE BEND TODAY ARE IN THE FUTURE, IF YOU ARE NOT IN A MARKET BOAT LANE DONT DO MORE THEN IDLE, DONT RISK YOUR LIFE ARE EQUIPMENT TO DO SO, PLEASE DONT DO MORE THEN IDLE WHEN OUTSIDE THE MARKED BOAT LANE'S.

I just watched someone run at half to 3/4 throtlle past my house headed towards north Toledo Bend state park following the shoreline, in what looked like a 16 foot blue express boat, running that speed in any boat outside of a

marked boat lane is just asking for

something very bad to happen, people need to remember if you sink your boat other people have to come out to save your dumb butt and that puts their life's at risk.

Again I'm asking please don't do more then idle outside the marked boat lane's.

And if the person who I just saw do this read's  this and it offend's you it should because you were being a fool, and atleast I had the heart to say something about your foolish behavior.

Sorry for going on a rant on your thread Catt, I hope I didn't offend you to much with it.

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

@A5BLASTER absolutely correct!

I've pulled someone from the lake who had been thrown out & ran over twice by his on boat...no kill switch.

Pulled a body out of the lake!

Man that's is huge, good on the man for catching such a trophy bass.

I guess I need to stop playing around and go catch the new louisiana state record that I'm sure is swimming in the Bend right now.

I use a 20# Tri-fluted river anchor with 30' of rope to anchor in 20-25' of water.

A Tri-fluted river anchor was my anchor for many, many years.

Mine weighed 12 pounds, but I toted 50-ft of rode.

Guys..that is a huge fish. A shame but it's a prank. Saw the thread on another site. I think it was ***. You can see the message on there saying it was a prank.

The link above says it was already weighed and entered into the share a lunker program, as the new state recorded bass, seems to be legit to me.

Saturday was tough. Had three nonkeeper bites early and then it just seemed like they just shut off before the rain came. Just couldn't find them. Water looked completely different since I was in San Miguel last.

I fished the Children's Miracle network tournament Saturday. Came in 9th with 18lbs. I think they had just under 150 boats. I'm finding lots of deep fish but they are hard to get to bite.  Friday I had over 20lbs in 4 hours cranking but I couldn't make them  eat a crankbait saturday.

I fished Saturday from first light till noon and landed 21 bass, seven were under 14 inches the rest were from 14 to 16 1/2 inches no hogs but good fish and a good time.

Got the grease heating up now for the 8 I keep to eat for supper tonight with the family.

Caught them on ribbet frogs around buck brush and grass.

I tried to feed them the ribbet all day Saturday. 2 swats and that was that. I guess I just wasn't where the fish were.

Most likely it was the wrong color and size ribbet.

The size of the ribbet has alot to do with it, more then folks think.

I only use two colors, black and red flake and white with chertruese feet.

The number one factor is how fast you are reeling it back, that lil secret I think I will keep close to my heart.

I only use those same colors as well. But I stuck with the standard size.

Ah man----------that's a bummer........:)..........

How is the jerk bait bite these days?

That is a good question, I haven't had a jerk bait tied on yet this year I may have to pull one out and work some points this afternoon and see what's up.

A5BLASTER, your rode length and make-up are as important as the weight.  20# is better but you want at least a 7 to 1 ratio (7' of line for every 1' of depth) hold in high winds.  20' water would require 140' rope.  Rode is the total makeup of your rope, chain and anchor.  You can get by with shorter if you are in very soft mud, but to short and your anchor lifts and drags to much.  the rope or chain should lay as horizontal as possible on bottom.  another option is to chose an anchor that digs in like a Danforth or Bruce (Lewmar).  Wally World has danforth stye for 20 bucks.  They are a pain to handle but they hold well.  Chain between the rope and anchor will help keep the anchor horizontal so when you pull on it the anchor digs in better.

I would not use either one of those in TB for all the love nor money-----useless-------you're a diver & like diving in limited vis.....:)......

.........& with over 2k dives, I'm not gunna waste my precious time (& money)looking for them.......

Here's the type of vis I look for.....surface is ~ 50 feet above....

Yea did the chain thing before not going back to it not in this lake.

I use parachute cord for rope due to it is easy on the skin and holds a good tie off knot.

I use a break away clip from my anchor to my rope, that way if the anchor gets hung in the millions of stumps and log jams in this lake I can simple put the boat in reverse and when I get it tight and the motor hits 1/2 throttle the clip breaks and I get all my rope back and don't leave rope in the water for someone to get in their prop.

Reason the mushroom anchors didn't work so well is the bottom was all sand and because it didn't have any" hooks" are a shape that could dig in with the wind that day they just rolled on the bottom.

Yep----on weekends, you'd be floatin' by/thru the next 2 or 3 boats fishing closest to you........:)......

It's been several days since we've had any reports on this thread, has anybody fished this week? I was going to fish the Bend today, but predictions of gusts up to 45mph changed that plan fast.

Hadn't been in 3 weeks or so. Too busy. Sorry. Maybe next week.
