newbiedmv
It's late June 2022. Has anyone been down to Rileys lock on the canal near Darnstown yet this year? Usually the aqueduct is clogged up and the ramp has a foot on mud on it until they clear it out. Due to gas prices i haven't driven down to see yet. Due to gas prices my boat hasn't moved yet either. Junger
Hit up Mattawoman yesterday afternoon. I was going to be in the area feeding/watering my sister's rabbits so I figured I'd hit the creek. Blue bird skies, wind gusts around 20mph, incoming tide....I thought it was going to be miserable so I packed 2 cigars, and some whiskey and figured it would basically just be a nice cruise in the scenery. Yep, got there and the conditions were less than ideal, bottom right was after launching, and bottom left picture is on the way back in. Eventually I found some creek bends with gin clear and still water, so I broke out the popper and they started to hit it. Action wasn't hot and heavy, but it was consistent in blue bird skies, I'll take it. Lost one big girl, guessing 4lbs at the boat. I only had 1 treble in her and it snapped as I was reaching down. Rico stock treble hooks really suck ass for such an expensive bait. Winds pretty much died down at golden hour, and I hit a stretch way back in the creek with wood stumps. I figured I would kill here but they just weren't biting. Then I saw a push about 20 yards away and casted there. Second pop and this snakehead smashed the Rico. Got all 5 trebles in it and harvested it for the 4th for a cookout. The cheapo Amazon scale said 6lbs...but it had to be more than that. Polished off my last cigar on the way back in, and turned into a pleasantly surprising day.

I fished the Seneca Creek aqueduct area last Wed early AM from shore. On my 4th cast, a big one nailed my Whopper Plopper and proceeded to hang me up in some timber and got off. I was distraught ?. I caught one small one shortly after but no other bites. Then all the kayaks and paddle boarders started coming through so I left. (I don't know about the mud situation on the ramp.) Mastercaster
Fished Triadelphia Sunday and Monday 7 to 12:30. Sunday was the better day with overcast conditions and 9 fish boated with the largest a 18.5 inch LM. Monday the sun was brutal and the bites were few and far between, only 4 total fish landed.

I've always fished from the bank there after scouting the two boat launches. I can only imagine it's a total cluster because it's basically a one way road in and out of the Greenbridge and Rec Area launches. Is there an unwritten rule about right of way? Who backs up, the person enter or leaving? Or have you just gotten lucky and never had to deal with an oncoming vehicle.
Mastercaster
I have always used the ramp off of Triadelphia lake Rd (off 97 in sunshine) and it is really never busy, usually more kayakers then boaters. The ramp does suck (weird angle and to shallow) with low water level, but I think this is why not many people use it. I also love that end of the lake with all the brush/trees growing up in the middle plenty of cover to fish.
newbiedmv
Just saw snake heads have made it up to Dam #4 on the upper Potomac. I've been wary and kinda expecting it. I don't know if they can survive colder water farther up stream but the fact they made it over the dam is curious to say the least. I've tried to catch them, so far no luck but i have noticed they're skittish as heck, have great eyesight, and are very very observant. Any change in presentation throws them off. Talking to people that did catch them they did so in shade and an ambush sneak attack that the snakehead didn't have time to check it out. If anyone knows the trick reply. My former golden lake is now worthless due to them.

newbiedmv
I don't know how many but there was an article in the hagerstown paper on it. I got the impression it was above the dam. Yeah i agree on your suggestion. All the people i spoke to that caught them at blackhills did so in kayaks with there shadow behind them and on chatterbaits. I saw about a thousand fry in that cove on the right from the ramp awhile ago. I called it in and left a message. There is so many in blackhills i don't even try to go there anymore. Also way way to crowded. I spent 90% of my time avoiding craft on a Wednesday around 5 pm. Didn't catch anything not even a bluegill. Gas prices are going down, I'll check out rileys lock to see if it's cleared yet.
Junger
Made it to Mattawoman yesterday at 8AM with my dad. High tide was 10AM, so I wanted to see if I could push back into some pads but there was no chance for that since the spatterdock is totally choked with hydrilla. The weather was perfect with low cloud cover, and a slight breeze. We threw toads, paddletails, trick worms, and craws into the pads where there were pools but nothing hit all morning. But when the water started rushing out around 1PM, the creek totally changed. There was a lot more activity and fish popping. I threw a popper and spook and landed 8 bass, most of which were less than 10" but 2 good ones close to 3lbs. I also had a nice multi-species day, a feisty yellow perch, sunnie, and my first pickerel out of the Potomac. My popper spooked a big snakehead, as soon as the lure hit the water the snakehead torpedoed out of hydrilla to deeper water. Other than that, I saw no more SH activity. We pulled out of the water at 3PM when the wind picked up and we saw storm clouds in the distance, my app said rain was starting in 28 mins. As we were taking the boat out, a jacklighter boat was putting in....guess they were going to get a head start that night on the bowfishing.
Super User fishwizzard Posted August 1, 2022 Super User Share Posted August 1, 2022 @Junger The colors on that sunny are amazing. I hit up my top-secret "never skunk" pond last weekend. Sadly it seems to be dying, the beaver that used to keep the outflow nice an plugged seems to have left and the water was lower then I have ever seen it, so low that I worry that it will freeze solid if we have a bad winter. But, it still came through for me, two nice chunks and a half dozen dinks:

newbiedmv
I really like the challenge of landing them when they run after seeing the boat. I wish I'd gotten a weight on mine, but i found out later i held it wrong. Only gone out once this year, my legs don't seem to want to go. Besides I'm taking a long trip later on and i get beat up loading about 1/2 the time. It can be rough loading by yourself in rough water and steep ramps. Junger
Went out on Labor Day morning to Slavin's with my youngest son, it was his 10th B-day and he primarily wanted to just zip up and down the main river. We started at about 8AM on the outgoing tide with perfect overcast conditions and very slight wind. I found a pond along the creek that had a lot of activity in it, lots of gulls gliding around and I could see the wakes of lots of fish moving around to dodge the gulls overhead. I proceeded to spotlock in there and threw poppers and walking baits and pulled out 7 LMB (3 good ones over 3lbs), a 23" striper, one 28" snakehead, and several small white perch. Not sure what was going on, other than there was a lot of moving water next to the pond, so maybe the perch were cruising near the eddy's made by the hydrilla patches, followed by the big predator fish. Once the tide switched around 10AM, it all shut down, and then we hit the main river and went up and down on plane for an hour.

We had a club bike ride starting out of the park across the street on Labor day, and I got there way early, so I headed to the ramp, just to see what was going on, it was right about 8 AM, stayed there for about 10 minutes (went into the base to get coffee and a coke) and liked what I saw, I'll be there sometime soon. Finished up 54 miles by noon(ish) so that wasn't bad, but the last 10 miles were rough.

We put in around 7:15A, and of course had to putter around at 6mph looking for a spot to fish and get away from the legion of yak'ers. Most of the fish I caught there since the hydrilla has come up thick, has been the outgoing tide, especially the last 2 hours with topwater along the grass edges. I bought myself an E-bike.....no rough miles for me.

When we get bored, we race electric trykes around the block, so far only one emergency room visit...
Junger
Hit Little Seneca Lake on Friday from 10AM-2PM, I figured it might be the last 75 degree this year so I had to get out. Got 2 LMB, biggest at 2.5lb and a small snakehead (my first in here) in the Little Seneca Creek arm on a chatterbait. There was still a lot of dying grass back toward the rock wall. I tried a weedless fluke and worm but nothing was hitting in there. They seem to be transitioning to 6-10 feet of water, away from shallow grass I think.
