Music?

Recommended Posts

What kind of music do you fellow anglers listen to?

I'm 15, and listen to Rush, Tool, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, ect.

Rush in my opinion is the best Progressive rock band to ever exist.  Just my thoughts.

Rush is great, but nothing beats Zappa and Miles.

The Who is amazing.

You rarely see someone that says Rush, thats what is crazy, they have 3 of the best musicians to ever birth.

The best drummer to ever walk the earth in my opinion, along with Keith Moon, and John Bonham.

The biggest cult band. Nuff Said.

All kinds. My son says my ipod is f'd. It ranges from Frank and Dino, to Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper, to M.O.D and Slipknot. BTW I never cared for Rush ;D

bilgerat I never really got into The Who, but about 15 years ago John Entwistle and Zak Starkey (Ringo Starr's son)made a suprise appearance at a local blues bar here in Chicago. What an amazing talent John was. To see these "big" stars play at a local venue just feet from where you're standing is incredible.

I've have seen Rush 4 times in concert. It is an amazing show they put on,and to think they almost gave it up a couple years ago... The rock and roll hall of fame didn't put them in this year, but they will get it someday.

Oldies but Goodies from the 60s and 70s.

Don't worry, I get it alot.

Rush isn't the easiest music to listen to, very different.

Though if you ever get into it, it will be your favorite most likely.

I just saw my forth show in September, and we're looking at tickets in New Orleans in June.

They put on amazing shows.

If you watch the documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage, you will be amazed.

My musical taste runs rampant. Deep Purple one day, jazz the next, I even like classical at times. Whatever sounds good to me.

I love having satellite radio in my work truck. No more commercial radio with all of their bs playlists and endless commercials, on top of hearing the same stale four songs.  If I ran a radio station, the motto would be "None of the hits all of the time"

Doesn't matter to me when it was made or what genre it falls under - if it sounds good to my ears, I'm in.

Too many to mention....

Alice in Chains

Alison Krauss

Incubus

Justice

Tool

Sublime

King's X

Foo Fighters

Alter Bridge

Daft Punk

STP

Audioslave

Opeth

Periphery

Porcupine Tree

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder

Clutch

on and on and on.....

Honestly not a very big Rush fan. I tend not to like them for the same reasons I can't get into Dream Theater - - they sound cold and academic. Great musicians playing music that just doesn't move me....at all.

That's the great thing about music, though.....there's a lot of great stuff out there - don't think we're going to run out of the good stuff anytime soon.

Whatever the heck i wanna listen to! Drove this mexican's truck the other day...you know the typical drug dealer looking truck with large chrome rims and no muffler. POS radio didn't work, and all i could find was mexican rap music HA HA! Flip the switch for the subwoofers and i couldn't hear the actual music though. Turned the music off and listened to that Ford V8.

On topic....Typically i'm a modern rock kinda guy. But not the crappy punk, alternative stuff on the radio. Country and western is good when i'm feeling it.

Good Choices.

Dream theater was inspired by Rush, their most inspirational band.  Their music is very similar to Rush, but more metal.

Most Rush hits, like Tom Sawyer, are Regular rock band music like "Bad Company", not too progressive.

Rush is a great band. Progressive rock has been taken to new levels by quite a few bands since Rush first hit the scene. If you like complex music check out the following.

Dream Theater

Spock's Beard

Symphony X

I like a lot of other music too and quite a few bands have been mentioned here that I like. Still, complex, creative, progressive music would have to be my favorite genre. Unfortunately, progressive music doesn't get much attention these days. Music for the masses involves creating simple hooks and melodies, or in the case of rap, rhythmic speech with very little going on melodically. There's nothing wrong with that. It can be difficult to come up with simple catchy hooks too. It's just not my favorite cup of tea.
