I received that book years ago - same situation if I recall!  I ended up getting it for free.

It has some good basic knowledge.  If you just keep it, they will continue pestering you for the money for a few months and eventually give up.  As a bonus, they will no longer send you unsolicited gifts  ;)

Its funny you say that, cuz as i started flipping through it, i began to wonder why they call it "advanced" bass fishing skills. looks pretty runna the mill to me.

This is just another BASS scam. Same deal for me a few years ago, received a book I didn't order.

Anyhow, You DON'T have to return it and you DON'T have to pay for it. You have NO obligation to ANY company that sends unsolicited merchandise addressed to you.

Never saw it, but sometimes it is good to review the basics.

But RW, from a legal standpoint , ARENT i obligated to: A.return it? B. pay for it? since i am a paid-in-full "member" of BASS, doesnt that waive my rights of their solicitation (to me) at will? Although it sounds like it shouldnt be that way, since i already have given them my "membership fees", i thought that was the case? hopefully im wrong as usual, but the book belongs to me now!!

P.S. If you havent been as fortunate as me to recieve this book, please refer to The Flea Market section, as i will shortly be posting this product up for sale at a bargain-basement price of $29.99 ;D jk

You will probably continue to receive these worthless books.  B.A.S.S. was sending me books and they put a collection of coins with them.  The problem with that was, that I already bought two of the books in the store that were published by another company about 3 years earlier.  All those books have ancient pictures in them from around the early 90's.

I ended up getting around 6 books and they all were pretty much the same material with no real advanced knowledge that anyone above a novice wouldn't already know.

I suggest you return the next book they send you because it will be coming in the mail in about a months time.

I couldnt agree with you more RW. I also have to say that he is 100% correct that YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM!

You have NO obligation to reply, pay for or return the books.

Honestly it would probably cost more to have someone from there call you and question you about it then to just forget about it.

Would they expect you to pay shipping back to them?

Thats nuts if they did.

As RW stated, unsolicited merchandise is a gift.

As a member of BASS they absolutely have the right to solicite you. This is a loophole for telemarketers by the way.

But a solicitation would be a card offering you the book. Sending you the book is, as previously stated "unsolicitated merchandise". It is the United States Postal Service that says you neither have to pay for nor return the merchandise.

I did buy several books in the series. It works pretty conveniently actually. They send you a book every month. You hang onto it for a couple of weeks and decide if you want to keep it.

If yes, send the payment in the envelope provided.

If not, return the book with the PRE - PAID return label that is also provided

this only applies if you buy or return the first book and agree to receive their offering each month to buy or return. I looked through the entire series bought 5 or 6 and that was it as far as I was concerned.

They continued to send me other crapola that I had no use for. I returned a couple but on each return invoice I clearly stated "Any additional items sent will be treated as unsolicitated mail"

They sent me a different book. I kept it and did not pay.

They sent me several "reminder" notices. I referred them to my last two communications demanding they "cease and desist" sending unsolicitated merchandise. I added that any further attempts to collect on this fraudelent bill would be considered harrasment and I would take legal action.

Never bothered me again.

HAHA. yeah i forgot to mention the best part of my "gift" pack that BASS sent me, the coin! The most worthless thing ive ever seen in my life. i mean jeez, even if i thought it looked cool, what the @#$ am i supposed to do with it? it doesnt have a loop at the top, so you cant put it on your key chain (IF i liked it) and it has no financial worth whatsoever! At first, i was excited to join the BASS club, but now..... its a coin toss. (sorry i had to)

Ha, I got this book in the mail a while back, and they sent me well over eight notices trying to tell me they wanted it back or else. I laughed at the notices and trashed them. If someone sends you something through the mail without you asking for it, then you are under no obligation to send them anything. I like the book, and I may do like Fluke and sell it on Ebay. ;)

P.S. If you havent been as fortunate as me to recieve this book, please refer to The Flea Market section, as i will shortly be posting this product up for sale at a bargain-basement price of $29.99   jk

I will also have a book on the market, entitled the same, except mine will be selling for $40 because it has a rare and valuable signature which makes it worth over $200...mine.  ;D

Just a thought...Why not give the unwanted books to some kids or even donate them to a library if they aren't worth anything to you. We might know all the basics but many do not. Someone might find that book very useful.

I recently received this book as well.  I also got a statement along with my receipt of subscription renewal.  The statement saying I owed them for the book.  I e-mailed BASS.  Their first response was that on the renewal form there is a block to check if you DO NOT want to receive such items.  That never feels good to me to start with.  I think someone mentioned SCAM already.  My renewal was actually a gift from my wife, she didn't notice this.  Anyway, I responded again to BASS stating that I had returned a book and/or some coins a few years ago and at that time I was to be removed from their list.  I also suggested that I could return this book--as yet unopened--at their expense.  I was advised (all comminiques were polite, by the way) that I could keep the book and would be taken off their list.  This is the second time to be removed from the list.  Should they send me any thing else in the future, I will feel in no way obligated to interface with them.
