Featured Replies

I was thinking today about all the types of cover bass hide under around here in eastern arkansas. My favorites are lilly pads, under brush piles or fallin trees and around cypres knobs.  I was wanderin what are some of your favorite types around here or even anywere in the country.

For the most part i think many of us are going to agree regardless of location but as a new yawker id have to say first and foremost slop, absolutely love pulling bass out of the weeds, the more weedage as i like to call it the cooler the strike and explosion is, after that id say lily pads, fallen trees hanging in the water, and definitely stumps round it out for me

I know many people don't like fishing it, but my favorite type of cover is bulkheads. I flip the worm, lizard, jig, or whatever ... on the bottom legde, wait a second then pull it off - looks more natural.  It's also quiter and I tend to catch lots of fish this way (just my .02)

Here were I am at it is a lot of standing timber not my fav but I do see it alot.  I love to fish around docks and brush piles

timber is my favorite, alot of sturcture is a must. just about anything will work.

Coontail, especially once the pods grow to the surface.

Our lake has a great amount of the stuff, finding the edges is like finding a pot of gold sometimes.

Hydrilla, coontail moss, milfoil ect

Grass = Bass  8-)

GRASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Works year round and really helps the shallow bite during a hot summer day.

Wow It depends on the lake or river. Boat Docks and Boat houses if they have them.Weeds and grass

Hydrilla and coontail my favorites. The edges between big rocks/boulders in at least 8 ft of water especially if they have weeds around them.Lilly Pads.Edges of standing reeds and what ever they call them ::)

If you show me a brushpile, I will show you what a bass looks like....lol

Boat Docks, Boat Docks, and Pontoon Boats. That the main cover on my home lake, considering its ringed with houses and cottages is boat docks and or man made structure.

submerged grass on a point.topped out close to shore,3' underwater in 6' of water and 1' off bottom at tip of point in 8-12' of water.w/ a dock sittin in the middle of it

submerged trees, rockwalls, and matted grass -

I probably post something different to every one of these topics.  I guess it depends on my mood.  But today I'm going with beaver dams or laydowns.

<<<<<< Please refer to  my avatar  8-) I'm also partial to laydowns and boat docks.

I like fishing arround sumberged trees and stumps because its a small area to cover but multiple bass will just sit right next to it.

Lilly pads if they are present, the brush piles especially submerged and standing timber

I like to fish hydrilla and coon tail when I go home to Texas but on Lakes Barkley and Kentucky, I fish the buck brush alot.  At least in the spring and early summer then try to find grass edges and riprap during the summer time.

Grass is good but I'm gonna say rockpiles or stumps in 10+ ft.That's where the bigguns' like to hang out around my house.

i also have to say that lily pads are my favorite...there is nothing like dropping a senko or frog into the holes and watching that explosion!

My favorite bass cover by far is "weeds", and I'm not talking about grass, I'm talking about WEEDS,

complex vegetation that resembles an underwater forest of trees.

To be precise, my favorite bass cover is "Pondweed" (Potamogeton), a large family of weeds found from Florida to Canada.

In the north, the most desirable pondweed is "broadleaf pondweed" (Potamogeton amplifolius) locally called CABBAGE.

In the south, one of the most desirable varieties of pondweed is "Illinois Pondweed" (Potamogeton illinoensis),

for which the local moniker is PEPPERGRASS.

When a bass learns of the whereabouts of a lush bed of pondweed, he'll leave the ole stumpfield like he's late for dinner :D

Other great submergent weeds are hydrilla, cabomba, coontail, eelgrass and milfoil.

Flooded timber, lilly pads and thick brush & weeds. Every cast should catch a fish or snag my lure.
