COULD YOU BEAT KVD?

Featured Replies

Seems as though a sense of humour is a rare commodity, as rare as beating KVD but some dreams do come true.  As many quality snook as I catch, KVD would blow me away in heartbeat, snook fishing is similar to bass fishing, except they are twice as big and much more powerful.

I don't spend much time in our "Tournament" section, but I wish you

guys would start posting all your 1st Place finishes, money made and

boats won. Bragging fine, news releases and pictures welcome. Let's

kick that section up a notch with some member recognition.

We have several big winners in the Junior Divisions. I know some

of our guys are tops in their clubs and CJ won a boat! Next time

you score big, write it up for the rest of us, please.

Maybe next year we can get KVD to man-up and face the challenge

at the BassResource.com 5th Annual Roadtrip. Well...he might be busy

trying to win some $250,000 tournament, but we're more fun!

I admire KVD and he is the best of the best but i like a challenge ,id try him on ponds under 5 acres i can pretty much dissect a pond within 15 mins

Can you imagine the run on Zebcos if he did fish a tournament with one? HeHe! "Sorry sir we're all out of 33's".  ;D

haha...it depends on how long the drag holds out on kvds zebco....lol...if it was a lake with a bunch of big fish...after a couple of big uns he might not have much left to work with...kvd is the man...equipment doesnt make an angler...he caught fish 15 years ago on stuff alot of guys would call junk now...a challenge is nice...but even if you beat him...it would not change the fact that he is one of the greatest anglers of all time...he is number 1 for a reason...

Hey as long as KVD did not stand for Kevin Van Dam I feel I would be up to the challange  ;D

I wouldn't challenge KVD if he were limited to a Popeil Pocket Fisherman, and the lures that come with it.

Well, I might challenge him, but wouldn't expect to win.

I got one little insight, everyone keeps talking about him using only a Zebco reel.

Guess what he uses Zebco's ONLY all day every day. They may say Quantum on the side but Zebco makes them.

In KVD's career he has fished 216 Bassmaster tournaments and won 15 times which means he lost 201 times.

Why would I not want the chance to fish against any top Pro; especially since y'all are paying ;)

Everyone has a day when it just cannot be put together.

Yes you can beat him one on one on a given day. The problem is he gets stronger as the days add up. You might get him one day, but after a three day deal he will usually put everything together and come out ahead. As for the one day chance I would go for it in a heartbeat.

While I wholeheartedly agree that it's the angler, not the tools...  you can handicap someone to death.  Tough to work a crankbait on a cane pole.  I would not enjoy a victory like that.

Going head to head on unfamiliar water...  that would be fun- win or lose.

KVD get a cane pole and has to shore fish..I get all my stuff and fish from a boat...........bring it!!!  ;D

Seriously, I concure with WR, I'd like to see tourny results from you guys, i.e. any $$$ won ect. And KVD at the next BR outing would be Great!

Not everyone fishes for money !! dont fool yourself there are some weekend worriors that can hold there own with anybody and you better believe it . These pro's you all watch came from somewhere, they just took a different route than the rest of us. I fished one tournament on t-bend 15 years ago, was asleep a the boat launch be noon and won by 18lbs on a 10 below day, GOD AS MY WITNESS !! My nerves were so shot by the end of the tourney I swore I would never fish another,  and I havnt " and I won the @#$% thing "  DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERNT FOLKS !!!

I was about to say, it ain't like the man is invincible and has never been beaten. Plenty people have beat him. Probably even the kid at the park using night crawlers on a Power Rangers pole.

I know guys who can flat out fish that don't care about tournaments.

Based on a few of these posts.

Does this mean when someone gives advice, it would be okay for us to ask them to post their tournament resume, I mean why take advise from someone who don't have any tournament resumes on file for us to view?   lol   That would eliminate alot of advice or opinions given on here.

I'll flip the script and just say I'd like the opportunity to be on the list of those that tried to best him, I'd be in good company on that list, and have no shame in being on that list.

    Ain't skeered!!!!!!!

I would take the Zebco 33 and the crappy pole if I could just fish "with" him not against him.  ;)

To answer the question, no. I wouldn't stand a chance.

Excellent point !!!  why are we on here ?  At some point in time we can learn a little something from each and every one of us, if you are better than that GET OFF !!

You truly are the epitome of awesomeness.   :)

Your confidence is admirable, but I still know who my money would be on in any conditions on any lake.

YOU MISSED MY POINT COMPLETELY !!!

I would dang sure like to give it a try! I wouldn't want him to have any handicaps and we could fish anywhere.

Do I think I could beat him? I wouldn't tell myself I couldn't.

If I did, would that make me better or even on the same level? NOPE!

  • Super User

Hmm, maybe some missed my jest of the post..the cane pole ect was a Joke!...would I fish against KVD, or anyone for that matter..sure ..BUT tourny fishin ain't my thang..However I do like to read about your guys results, makes me happy to see any of you do good.

Back to KVD..yes, anyone can be beat on any given day, even Tiger, MJ, ect get beat now and then. ;)

And yes..I agree there are some great fishermen that don't fish for $$$

You can post all the tournament results you want, but none of that matters. Obviously KVD has an edge over Joe Fisherman, but that edge isnt quite so large in one tournament.

For instance, say I show up and catch a 10lb hog. Extremely rare, but definitely possible. Meanwhile KVD  cant seem to boat quality fish today and brings back a sack of five that each weigh 1-2 pounds. I win today, but that doesnt mean much of anything.

KVD's edge grows exponentially as the sample size increases. Obviously betting against KVD is a losing play and costs you money in the long run even if you make money in the short run.

Exactly  ;)
