What Is Your Workhorse Reel?

Featured Replies

So this is all about durability. If you had one reel for the rest of you life, what would it be?

Curado 100d. Indestructible

Abu Ambassadeur 5500 C3.

A close second would be a 4600C.

They've both been going strong for over 20 years.

Hmmm, If I had to choose just one reel, even though I don't use it very often, would be my Shimano Calcutta. I have several models and they're all excellent. I believe you would be hard pressed to find a more dependable, workhorse of a reel.

shimano citica 201D

I have a few, 3 CU201B', a 5001C Garcia, 4601C Garcia...

Tight Lines!!! :fishing1:

One of the Daiwa Zillion variants without a doubt. At this point I would have to go with the 50th, but I have yet to use the Type R because of the price tag.

lol agreed. If there was one reel that would last forever its the ugly stik's reel. 1 ball bearing=less things that could go wrong

Pflueger President and Trion

Shimano Curado is pretty stout too.

The Trion....my first Flooger and still as smooth as the day I got it. If they dumped that stupid rosewood handle it would be perfect.

I have three. One is over 10 years old and has been predominately used for

stripper fishing on the Tennessee River. In terms of bass fishing, the reel

is 1,000 years old! The reel is better today than the first day out of the

box. It has been serviced, but never "upgraded". No new parts, no polishing,

no nothin', just cleaning, oil & grease.

Strong, smooth, silent and reliant.

my abu 4600CBs, over 20 yrs old and still stout for flipping.

Oh man. Those 4500 CB Ambassadeurs were super smooth. The gears meshed better than anything made these days. But the Curado 100D stands out too, just became a part of your hand and not plasticky feeling like the E's. I'd say I'd have to take a 4500C prepped by hookless with bb cog and old style dual cast control knobs.

It would be my Quantum Catalyst PTi-B and may not be as old as some of the other reels but it is my work horse reel.

I have a 1983 Daiwa Prolite 100 and is still going strong after all them years!!!

and I have a Daiwa TD-X103Pi from 1997 and has never had any new parts only cleaned and lube twice a year!

I own more Citica D reels than any other reel, and have abused them more than any other reel. They keep going strong for me. I just have a ton of faith in them.

Abu. I have several. They all work well and one is even still working my worm rod, which was purchased in 1974. I have the 5000, 5000C, 5500C and 6500C. No need to have any others. I can cast with the best of them.

And so will my grandkids.

This should have been a poll! Would have been interesting to see the final tally. :)

The Trion. Its been sunk, flooded, thrown, slung, bounced in a truck, scuffed, had 130yrds of line peeled off from the drag, its discolored, ugly, and the thing works like new. It will outcast a red eye shad or DD22 better than any shimano, pro qualifier, browning, or other abu that I have. It wouldn't be my first pick of a reel. But when it comes to abuse and takin a lickin but keeps on tickin...thats my pick every time.
