Torn between what action is best I know its probably personal preference but just wondering which action everyone prefers. Will be using mostly KVD and RC 1.5's, H2O's and every once in awhile probalby a Strike King Series 1 this rod will also double as a Lipless crankbait rod in fairly light cover. Should I go with 7 MH Mod crankbait rod glass/graphite or a 7 Medium graphite with a fast action okay and if that aint enough of a choice I also have a 7 graphite Medium with a extra fast action all these rods are G blanks rods built on batson blanks I beleive. So come on guys and let me have your years of fishing knowledge.

I went with the Powell Square Bill crankbait rod 695CEF. Perfect for what I wanted in a square bill rod. If your strictly choosing between M and MH then I would definitely go MH.

I also have this rod and I love it. It also makes an excellent spinnerbait rod.

My favorite square bill rod is the CBR843C Loomis. I have a great feel with that rod, most of what I was looking for in a square bill rod. I'd been fishing a Powell glass rod, but was missing fish, a hit felt too similar to banging off hard cover. I just prefer the sensitivity of graphite for it. Just a preference thing.

I had the Powell squarebill rod and hated it, to stiff for me.

I use the Kistler Magnisum 6'9" MH power/fast action "all purpose special" for most of my squarebilling. I toss SK KVD 1.5's, 2.5's, 4S's, and Rapala DT fat 3's with it. Great rod for those cranks. When it's not tossing squarebills it's a great spinner bait, soft jerkbait, and senko rod. I love that it has a shorter rear handle, makes roll casting a crank way up under over hanging trees easy for me. I don't like tossing smaller 1/4 oz cranks like SK series 1's, or Bandit 100's as much on the Kistler, I usually go with a longer rod that those small baits load a little better, but I have fished them on that rod and it was ok.

My suggestion is a St. Croix Avid AVC70MM.

Kent, how close would you say the Avid and the Loomis are in terms of action? I've never actually been able to get an AVC70MM in my hands. That's the primary reason I just went ahead and got the Loomis.

You don't say what line you will use. Mono is more forgiving with a stiffer rod.

if you're tossing squarebills into the heart of thick timber, you want at least a medium-heavy with a fast to extra-fast tip for banging into limbs and such. this same rod would also excel for ripping lipless cranks in grass and is excellent for 3/8 to 1 ounce spinnerbaits as well. otherwise, in more open water, you're better off with a moderate/fast action to better keep your fish pinned.

I use a Dobyns 705cb glass, It a 7' MH-Fast action fiberglass rod and it really can throw anything from 1/4 to 1oz. I love it.

The fast tip also makes it extremely versatile. You can throw spooks and jerkbaits as well and the fiberglass construction will let you throw almost any style crankbait.

You guys crack me up. A rod for square-billed shallow cranks? It certainly should be my 6' 8.45" med. tailspinner (for braid), or my 7' 1.75" mh Hellbender rod. 'Nuff said.

You are probably miles ahead with the G. Loomis. I bought the Avid years ago

and it has served me well.

For 1.5 size KVD squarebills in light cover...I'd use a spinning rod, Medium Extra Fast.  Specifically my Phenix M1 7'2" MXF.

Reviving a thread from 2011?  Ok, I like the gloomis CBR 843.  I like a medium action for small crankbaits that still have the parabolic bend.  Very sensitive as well.

Look Into the Kistler Feel-and-Reel Rod. I've been using some under 7' and a couple 7' rods depending on target or open water presentations
