  1. Or you can get a Tompson Center Encore and get both the .243 and .270....... Problem solved. That's what I have my .243 in. I just got a .308 for mine but I haven't put a scope on it yet. It will be for those rare times when I'm hunting fields.
  2. It all depends on where you live and what your average shot is. I hunted with a 300win Mag for years here in Georgia. I reload so I would load it down a little. But I started thinking about what my average shot was and realized that it was less than 20 yards. So I switched to a .243 last year and have enjoyed it ever sence. It knocked down several deer this year and last. Nothing is more valiuable than practice though. The gun is only as good as the shooter. I would say that if your average shot is less than 75yards on a deer then a .243 will do you fine. If you have to reach out and touch them then you need a heavier bullet so it will have good knockdown power down range. There is no better caliber than a .30cal bullet if you reload. It comes in every make, model, and size you can think of. I used to hunt varmints with my 300mag but I loaded it with a screaming 95grain bullet that came out of the barrell at more than 4500fps. When I went Cariboo hunting in Canada I loaded it with a 165gr bullet and dropped both of my bulls. Are you going to do more deer hunting than Varmint hunting? If so than a .270 will be a good choice.
  3. Here's a few threads about bass books from the past. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196124069/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186429249/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186466676/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1178114685/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1147522796/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1131943031/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1101831726/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1111114541/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1111100502/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1102524482/0
  4. I'm still trying to find the dishonesty in this. I found some crankbaits miss priced on BPS online one day. They were supposed to be priced for 9.98 but they had them for .99. I bought 10 of them. I was shopping for guitar music one day and was checking the price of a book full of country music. The price tag said 0.01. I took it up to the counter. It scanned 0.01 and the store was required to sell it to me for that price. He can't blame a mistake that his employee made on those who came to pump gas. The customers did nothing illegal at all.
  5. You just need to shop in the kids section and you'll do just fine.
  6. I just want to be able to call my 9.98lb bass "10 pounds". :'(
  7. I have a Garmin Etrex LegendCx. I baught a boat mount for it and it mounted nicely in my boat. I use it all the time. It has saved me more than once during night tournaments and in thick fog. I have the Fishing Hotspots maps downloaded on it and I think they are a must.
  8. The one Robert has there is about 675 buck US.
  9. I use Staybil in everything I own that takes gas. I have never had a problem with anything.
  10. Man that thing look awesome. I'm very impressed.
  11. I have fished both of them and they have the same action, they feel the same, and they look the same in the water. The only difference is the paint job. But I didn't see the bass that I have caught inspecting that before they bit.
  12. 1/4oz Spot Remover with a Green Pumpkin Finesse worm with the tail dipped in JJ's Magic. This has pulled me out of a hole more times than I can count and you just can't beat JJ's.
  13. Tie on a 1/4 or 1/2 oz Rat-l-trap in silver/black or silver blue and parallel the outside of the hydrilla. Try to clip the edge of it. Vary your speed and when it gets hung in the hydrilla just drop your rod tip to put slack in the line and then jerk up quickly to rip it out. Then continue reeling. Cover water. If the fish are there you'll catch a few.
  14. If you go to the coast guard regs and set your boat up with their list you shouldn't have a problem with any state.
  15. We appreciate you and everyone who is willing to share a seat in their boat. We will have several guys showing up without a boat. They are relying on those of us who have a boat to take them out on the water. We will have a drawing every evening. We will put all the names of those who need a seat into the hat and those who have a seat will draw the names. This doesn't mean that we don't want you guys to pick a partner each day. This is just to make sure that nobody gets left behind.
  16. Pheasant are great. I don't care much for duck. Guinea are tough. I've never had them in soup though. Turkey is great. Dove are better. Crow sucks. But my favorite bird is the willow ptarmigan it spend a mojority of the year eathing wild blue berries. Gamecock was very tender after the Tigers beat the crap out of them. ;D
  17. I won't lie to them but I may play it down a little. I wouldn't say it was awesome but I might say "It's not bad at all", or "It could be a little better." But I fish a 71,000 acre lake. I could tell someone exactly what I was doing but leave out the spots and that wouldn't be a problem at all. If I'm in my honey hole and someone pulls up to check it out I usually sit down in my boat and grab a sandwitch or a coke and relax for a few minutes.
  18. Let's hear it.... DAIWA Let the war begin!!! And Abu, and Quantum Not that the Curado is a bad reel. Shimano just tried to use the reputation of the old one to sell the new one and that worked very well until folks found out that it can't live up to that reputation.
  19. I was considering signing up for BASS so I could fish a few of their weekend tournaments this year. After this they can forget it. FLW here I come.
  20. I'm going to use your thead Mike to see if I can get a few takers. I am looking for two people to share the cost of the lake shore cabin I have reserved. I don't drink or smoke, but if you do that's fine with me. I'm there to fish with as many of you guys as possible and I do like my sleep. So there won't be much late night partying going on there. I'm going to take care of 1/2 of the cost of the cabin and the other half can be split between the two other people. This will keep the cost down to 176.25 for the week for each person. PM me if you are interested. For those of you who think you can't afford this trip. This is how we save money. The Lake Fork trip ran me around 500 to 600 bucks last year. That's was gas to and from the GA/SC line, gas in the boat, lodging and food. Not bad for a six day trip. So those who want to go please get together and share expenses so everyone can have a good time with no worries.
  21. I'm sure one of us could do that for ya. This will also be the perfect chance for you to hire a guide for a day. Take your wife with you and let the guide do the work. This will make the rest of the week go by much smoother. I know several of us will be doing that.
  22. Cabin fever? I have one tied on a rod right now and I heading out in the morning to give it a try.
  23. I already told you. lol
