Trick Worms
Picked up a pack of the Merthiolate color last night at Dicks. Also grabbed a pack of the Limited Edition color Okeechbee Craw in the finesse size or something like that. My spelling is not good today.

St. Croix Avid - Fast or X-Fast Action?
I'm a huge plastics man. I also own the AS68XF. Highly recommend it. Have had zero issues using it with jerkbaits or spinnerbaits either.

That is fair. I understand. But also understand that when you have a wife and a child like myself its almost impossible to fish just as much as I spend time with them. Not healthy. Now if your single or just dating than obviously that doesn't come into effect and its hard to see the point I'm trying to make.

Yep. Maybe when you have a family someday you will understand your friend that only takes his boat out once in a while.

Well when you have a family there shouldn't be balance. Family time and free time isn't 50/50. Family definatley deserves more than just 50% of your time and energy. Family comes first in all things. Being "whipped" means your being a good father and husband. If your fishing just as much or even more than spending time with your family than IMO that is not a good thing. Not just with fishing but with all things in life. Hence the reason why the divorce rate is so crazy these days. It's just a selfish world IMO.

My wife doesn't hate fishing per say. She will go a couple times a year and beat the bank with me. BUT she hates that I need all this fishing tackle. My son goes with me a lot during the summer, he is eight years old. But he got tired of it pretty quick come fall time. My niece went with me once and liked it. I'm with most guys on here.........I like to go fishing by myself and have that alone time on the water or on the bank. I hate it when a group of guys come crashing in.....noisey as all heck....and just cuss away and are rude. That will drive me to break out my raft and go on the water just to get away from them. Happened to me two weekends ago in the early morning hours. THey were there to fish for trout. Funny thing is about four hours later I hear them from shore saying......."F**king trout....bite ya f-ing trout". Yeah like there really going to bite when your causing a ruckus. The priceless thing is that the one guy drove all his buddies up from out of state promising them some nice brownies. Never happened. Sorry that I sidetracked this one. :-/ Point is....fishing alone is the best.

Two lures that have worked for me
Me neither. But I also have never tried to jig them vertically and I think that is the best use for them.

what would you do...
I hear ya Red. Snow has come through the area as of late. Not really sticking to the ground too much. Small lakes and resevours are not freezing over either. BUT I'm done. Can't catch a darn thing and so I'm unspooling my reels tonight and cleaning everything up. Not as much fun when those temps go down. Maybe if I could get to the smallies it would be different. But the LMB bite is basically dead around here. Not going to fish for 6 hours again with only a bite to show for it. Right before the turnover the bite was ON around mid and end of October.........ever since.......not a darn thing.

Definately different. Props for finding ways to use your tackle.

Lets start a Value Thread for Tackle
7" Power Worms from Berkley. 3 bucks and some change for a pack. Most productive soft plastic for me ever. No matter the color. IMO it is a lot more productive than that GULP junk.

Have any of you guys used these hooks? (pics)
I bought some for a couple of my smaller swimbaits. Haven't used them yet though. Bought the ones made by Falcon in a 1/32 size.

Current favorite lure
3/8 weedless Chompers football jighead with a watermelon red flake GYCB Double tail hula grub. Dragging it on the bottom. Daylight savings time has now killed my fishing however. :'(

Crazy or just a bass fisherman??? Hmmmm...
Bingo....with my weekends being very busy the weekdays have been my main times of fishing. But when I don't get out of work until 4pm and the sun goes down at 5pm.....I have no chance to fish. Stinks. Even if I left my house at 4:15 it takes me a good 20 minutes to get settled at my spot. Not even worth it with gas prices these days.

What do you think this fish weighed....
Maybe even a muskrat Dave.

How do you guys store soft plastics?
Another idea is just go out and pick up a backpack. Throw the stuff that you want to take and be done with it. Especially if your going to be fishing the shores.

Mega Strike Original or Mega Strike Crawfish Scent
Picked up some of the crawfish scent style because crayfish are loaded in my fishing waters. Is there a huge difference between the original and this? Or are they pretty similar. The crawfish scent is the GYCB version. Applied some this weekend and only came away with two hits. Cold front just passed through so I thought it would help.....but it didn't. :'( ;D

Riggin/fishing crawdad baits?
I'm going to give the Paca Craws a whirl on some Owner Standup jigheads as well. But I also plan on using them on a long shank ball head as well.

How do you guys store soft plastics?
I store mine in there original packages in shoe boxes at home. Before I leave to go fishing I sort through my baits based on the conditions and take what I think will work that day. Than I put what I'm taking in my tacklebag. Works for me.

Reaction Innovations Ball Breaker
http://www.***.com/descpage-RIBB.html# I'm a huge Wacky Rig fan. These look pretty sweet. Anybody try these out yet? Working on getting my offseason list together and I think I'm going to give these a whirl.

One thing about my Avid that I do not like
No I know the threads aren't damaged. I took a look at them. BUT I will given St Croix a call around January time and see what they say. Still have some fishing left so I'll wait until the snow flies. Thanks for you guys responses. Appreciate it greatly.

Bait snob
They might not catch twice as many when "the bite is on," but they might fool the one you're really looking for. The real "magic" that Lucky Craft has is in consistant performance. The balancing designed into the lures, especially Pointers, results in fewer fouled hooks on the cast, greater distance and dependable action. The Pointer actually vibrates when it appears motionless. The pointer is a beautiful bait. My 78 in sunfish just came in and I'm anxious to use it tomorrow. Pretty no doubt.....will see if it will grab those big boys that have been feeding on the gills next to the dam outlet.

One thing about my Avid that I do not like
Maybe its just new to me. All of my rods in the past have had some kind of metal for there seats, threads, and nuts. IMO it is just a pet peave of mine. Its not a huge noise. Just a creaking type of noise when I try to tighten them more (which imo is probably the rod telling me enough! lol ). When a fish is on I think the noise is coming from the same area where the cork ends and the plastic starts. I like to place my right hand in that area and it could be because of the way I hold the rod. I like to have the end of the reel inbetween my pointer finger and middle finger. Probably not correct but that is how I have always held the rod with my hand and fingers. I should also say that the nut isn't coming undone to an extent, my reel just doesn't feel as secure as my other cheapy rods. There is some slight movement but again I think it may be the reel being not aluminum. Because I can't get the seats anymore tighter than they are.

Holding bass for photos - Good and bay way to doit
If I'm going to hold mine horizantol than I support the belly with my other hand so there is NO pressure on the fishes jaw. If I hold them vertical than it I'm not going to bend them at all. Only straight up so again no pressure is placed on that jaw.

One thing about my Avid that I do not like
Why whats wrong with it? I just don't care that they use plastic for those threads and nuts. Maybe its my reel (Pflueger President) being graphite and not aluminum? Maybe its the give that its having on the rod?

One thing about my Avid that I do not like
Where the reel locks into the pole. Reel seats? But the screw in thing that you lock it with is made of plastic and so are the threads. Makes a nice noise sometimes when fighting a fish. Doesn't seem to stay tight like my cheaper rods with the metal threads. Is this something that goes with most rods? Is it a sensitivity thing? I just don't like it at all. Starting to bother me. Love the way the rod feels but that plastic cheap feeling just irks me. > Mine is a spinning rod I might add.
