My new rig!
in my mind boats like these are perfect. as long as the boat its self is in good shape and the motor is tight you can build what you want into the boat and not pay for that "new boat smell". nice rig.

New to Tournaments - need some advice
id search for other clubs who are fishing the lake before your tourney and ask how they did. id also try to find out how past tourneys went around the same time of the year.

Most money lost during a single trip....
i did something like this. i had too many rods on the front of the boat, and kicked one in. without thinking i jumped in to save said rod. after getting the rod, handing it back to my father, i got back in the boat, proud i had saved my jerk bait rod. soon i noticed things looked different.........like i was no longer wearing my custom NIKE flex glasses. long story short, i lost my $400 glasses for a $200 rod. the flip side is i knew my wife wouldnt say a word to replace the glasses.

Jointed Shad Rap
Do you have trouble tuning them? not really. the bait just stands out to me as something i might adjust a few times in a trip. i do beat them off the rip rap, but not any more than non-jointed baits.

Helpful tip I learned...

Jointed Shad Rap

Tournamet Rod Selection
Field sizes will remain the same for 2009, with 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers comprising a full BFL field. Entry fees also remain the same, with boater entry fees of $200 for qualifiers and $300 for Super Tournaments. Co-angler entry fees are $100 for qualifiers and $150 for Super Tournaments. Pretournament meetings for each tournament will be held at the local Walmart store hosting the event. last thing id say is, if you dont want to pay for a boaters gas, bring your boat. why wouldnt you want to fish out of your own boat anyway?

Tournamet Rod Selection
This could be a whole other topic but I think that is way to much to pay for gas to a non boater. Based on BFL entry fee's last I knew by the time you pay that much you are approaching the entry fee of a boater. And yeah then you have to pay for gas, but it's also your boat. Your success is in your hands. From what I've heard there are plenty of boaters in BFL who aren't offering much in the way of a learning oppurtunity and certainly not reliably putting you into fish. On top of that the boater NEEDS you to fish. And he was planning to be there anyway. $20 now covers that IMO. $40 when gas was so high. A local club member or buddy on the other hand I'd be more willing to pitch in gas money. Those are just my thoughts. Call me cheap if you would like. i thought non-boater enter fee was half the boaters fee.............. then add up-keep, gas, oil, insurance, i dont se non-boaters fees being close to that of a boater.

Tournamet Rod Selection
the old club i was in it was always a trade-off. the non-boater either had more gear than i did or wanted to step on to my boat and tell me where, when, and how we were fishing all day.
-
Tournamet Rod Selection
youd be non-boating from the dock trying to bring 9 rods as a non-boater in my boat.......................lol. id do 1 top water rod, 1 mid-depth rod, and 2 bottom feeders

Flipping with BC...
at first it is a lot of thumb work but after a season youll be pitching with your non-winding hand and will have deadly accuracy. try standing on a stool when you practice.

bringing the somewhat funny.
A Missouri Sheriff stops at a ranch in rural MO and talks with an old farmer. He tells the farmer, 'I need to inspect your ranch for illegal grown drugs.' The old farmer says, 'Okay, but don't go in that field over there.' The Sheriif verbally explodes saying, 'Mister, I have the authority of the Sheriffs Department with me.' Reaching into his rear pant pocket and removing his badge. The officer proudly displays it to the farmer. 'See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish..on any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?' The old farmer nods politely and goes about his chores. Later, the old farmer hears loud screams and spies the Sheriff running for his life and close behind is the farmer's bull. With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer. The Sheriff is clearly terrified. The old farmer immediately throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... 'Your badge! Show him your badge Smartas!

ABEC 5 Ceramic bearing upgrade.
i have an older daiwa reel that isnt worth a lot other than the fact that its a 3.8:1. i keep it around for deep cranks. this year i decided to replace the spool bearing and see what difference new bearing would make. id just like to say.........WOW. set aside the fact the thing casts so much better, now i have 3 times the backlash control. my cost with shipping was just over $30. id strongly suggest upgrading your older reels you like.

Speedy reel cleaning tutorial
Our members who make a living servicing reels recommend NEVER opening a reel without schematics. 8-) Been taking my own apart for 15 years......Never payed anyone who was making a living doing it, to do it for me, and never needed a picture. 8-) a factory trained tech says you should always have a schematic before cracking your reel open i tend to believe them. not saying that in youre case you cant service your reels without a schematic. i used to think the same as yourself until i serviced a abu 5600 C4 mag and couldnt get the thing back together.
