  1. Bassmaster Mag had an article this month on best equipment without breaking the bank. Both the Extreme and Okuma (i believe) were listed in that article. Good luck!
  2. I started out using ABU ambassadors many years ago before switching to Shimano. Last year I decided to give a Pfleuger President instead of buying the redesigned Curado. It is a solid reel. I havent tried a Revos yet, but all many people on this forum have postive things to say about them. My money still goes to Shimano just because of past performance. However, it seems like the competition has caught up and that is good things for all consumers. The proof is in the pudding. The shimnao curado is getting redesigned once again.
  3. No, You dont need a 5:1 but I find that it helps with slowing me down. I have a 5:1 on my deep diving crankbait setup.
  4. If you fish super clear lakes I would get Clown color. If not American Shad.
  5. Thanks guys a big help. Once I get settled I will be taking a trip or two with Bobby.
  6. Oh Yeah. It is one of my goto trailers for a C-rig.
  7. I will probably start out with some of the smaller swimabits and move up to the 8"Huds once I gain some confidence. Those Loomis rods do look sweet.
  8. I was leaning towards a Calcutta, but there are several different models and I wonder what line capacity I should get.
  9. I am moving northern CA in the next few months. I am looking to buy my first swimbait setup. I perfer to pay for quality rods and reels that come with a lifetime warranty. I am lost when it come to picking out a reel for this application. It seem like many people use round baitcasters for swimbait setups. Why? (I also perfer to use Shimano reels) Could you use something like a Curado 300? As for the rods Okuma seems to be the best value, but there seems to be better rods out there. Looking at the Loomis, Dobyns 795, and Kistler. I have read some reviews, but can anyone here tell me their experiences with these rods? I have read on this forum that some people have upgraded from the Okuma. Why? I want to get the setup right the first time. Thanks. Any input is appreciated. I am lost, but excited to learn.
  10. Just get a bunch of loomis stickers to cover the pfleuger name or varnish over it. ;D
  11. Hi everyone. I will be moving to the Bay Area or Sacmento area in the next few months. Could someone point me in the right direction as far as fishing the Delta? Can anyone recommend a guide or tackle shop? What about a good swimbait setup? Thanks.
  12. I have spent up to $30 on some the Megabass cranks. Quality components especially the hook. However, I still use other other cranks such as the DD22. The Lucky Craft pointer is one lure that is worth every penny of $16 and should be in every anglers tacklebox. I am completely sold on this lure. It will produce bass even in the toughest winter conditions.
  13. I perfer the hard body frogs. It seemed like I missed more fish with the softbodies especially when they blow up on the lure. I use a zoom with a 5/0 owner hook.
  14. Pointer early in the season.
  15. I just purchased one early this season. All I can say is that I just purchased another one. Unbelievable when you couple this reel to a GLX. This reel is worth every penny.
  16. Mt first loomis rod was defective too. Got out on the boat and and noticed there was several chips in the blank centered around the tip area. I could just see myself breaking it on a hook set. I returned it to BPS and they ordered me a new one. They gave me a little bit of a hassle but I just purchased the rod 2 days ago.
  17. I should notice that I own a LTB too. No problems with it. I just shipped my Premier with a letter. I didnt include a payment so I am sure they will be contacting me with how to service the rod. I could care less at this point 3 years 3 repairs. Brutal.
  18. The guides on the Premier are a joke. The first one I ordered from BPS had two guides that fell out (they were still in the plastic wrap with the rod) and and to ship it back. Last year had one pop out and repaired. This year had another pop out. The bad thing is I bought this rod in 05' and it only come with a 2 year warranty. I will never buy a Premier again. I am thinking about returning it to St. Croix with a note saying keep the d**n thing. I will have as much in repairs than the rod is worth. I am fuming now that I have read a reported problem. Thought maybe that this was an isolated incident or my misfortune. Love the rod itself (crankbait), but I cant take the constant equipment failure. It spend more time in the shop than on the water.
  19. I like to use the jerkbait early in the season. When the water reaches 50 I am usually done with the jerkbait and switch to a jig, spinnerbait, lipless crank. However, i will conitue to use a fluke throughout the season.
  20. JIG: Eakins w/ Chomper creature trailer Lizard: Magnum Lizard-watermelon candy Worms: Zoom Trick Worm, 10" Power Worm, Senko, Zoom Centipede Tubes: Reaction Innovations Boom Boom Tube Jerkbait: LC Pointer 100SP Toad: Zoom Horney toad Spinnerbait: Booyah 1/2oz white/red with colorado blade Topwater: LC Sammy 100 and 115 Cranks: Shallow: Mann-1 Mid:LC Rick Clunn, Deep: DD22 Lipless: SK Diamond Shad
  21. The dogwood are in full bloom. That means it spinnerbait time at LOZ. If that doesnt work wiggle warts and jigs.

You can use just about any plastic you can think of on the back of a C-rig and catch fish. My personal favorites are Zoom lizard and centipedes, sweet beavers, and red shad Berkley power worm. If I am fishing floating worms I will either fish them weightless or on a spot remover jig head.
  23. Yeah. I was thinking the same way. I would probably get a different model other than a CB rod. Maybe the Topwater, Teaser or Big Jig rod. I have another CB rod as well, but I find it is too heavy small cranks. So I need a CB rod. It looks like an excuse to buy two more rods.
  24. I use the Chompers Creature. I perfer these over the Yamamoto and I am a huge fan. They are much more durable and there is nothing like the smell of Chompers first thing in the morning (just kidding). I usually rig these on a standup jig hear or use them as a trailer on an Eakin jig. You should buy a pack of Chomper and a pack of Yamamotos and see which one you perfer.
  25. I recently busted a guide on my St Croix Premier crankbait rod. Although it is a small repair should I take this opportunity to upgrade to one of the tournament bass rods through there warranty program? I am going to have $30 in the repair and shipping which is 1/4 the cost of the rod new. >
