  1. I frog alot and was using a 7ft heavy fast shimano clarus with a 6.4.1 gear ratio reel I have since upgraded to a 7ft XH carrot stick with a new curado burner reel. I love this combo it is a dream to set the hook, reel up slack line and control fish in even the heaviest grass. IMO the reel and line are more important in frogging. I could put my curado with 80lb power pro braid on my old 7ft H fast action Clarus it would still be just as good. You need heavy braid and at least a 7.0.1 ratio reel. BTW the Carrot stick &ft XH is only 150 about as much as a Crucial
  2. 6 week wait for a new combo? Alot like an eternity of intense pain I had to wait 2 weeks for a combo and it almost killed me. :-/ Congrats on the sweet combo though.
  3. Why pay extra money to learn how to catch 2lb bass? Plus this place is a better source of information IMO.
  4. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl Control your own destiny
  5. Could be the Knot slipping, I have seen it happen on the lighter braid diameters. The best solution IMO is to up your line test to something above 50 lb test. The heavier braid ties a very secure knot no matter what knot you tie.
  6. Yeah I was pretty bummed that I did not save the picture, but he'll just break it next time so it doesn't matter much
  7. DUDE, gotta get on the night bite
  8. I too wish they had a 5 inch version, would be really nice. What makes it special(not that special though) is the thumping the tail makes, sort of like a paddle tail worm. T-rigged, weightless, jig trailer. I am a big fan of gambler products but the otter is my least favorite bait. Try their cane toad, 8 and 5 inch flappn daddy paddle tail worm(a lot of vibration). They make good crawworms and 10 inch ribbontails too.
  9. Wow that's GREAT! Makes me want to dust off my 7ft UL 2-6 lb test st. croix avid
  10. Carrot stick 7' extra heavy with 80lb. power pro, 3/16 oz tungsten weight, and a 5/0 gamakatsu Monster hook(heavy wire). T-rigging creature baits, craws and I do not like to but I have thrown 10 inch worms on it.(I like a bigger hook) and weightless t-rigging various baits. I will frog with it too
  11. I like using heavy line and a baitcaster can hold it easier than a spinning set up, so baitcaster.
  12. Wow that is the coolest husband ever!! Great company with great baits. I will be pulling for her in the Classic, I love Reaction Innovations!
  13. Yeah I saw both at wal-mart the other day ;D
  14. Hmmm so Quantum is making revos now? ;D
  15. Falcon rods are relatively cheap.Falcon Cara T7 are 170 bucks for a 6'6'' H ,6'10'' H , 7ft H or 7'2/3'' XH pick one of those and you should be good. Or a cheaper and nicer looking rod the E21 LTX carrot stick 150 bucks and a couple good actions for worming 7ft XH 7'6'' H 6'9'' MH etc.
  16. The last picture is definately a spot, I am not sure about the others though, tough to tell.
  17. They had righties on *** for all of a day ;D I didn't buy any though
  18. Have had success fishing a trickworm with a small bullet weight(1/8 oz) and straight shank hook(3/0) on a spinning rod with light line. Caught fish with it on cold mornings, daytime, and at night go figure I have been just dragging it slowly in bare areas, although in grass I will reel in til I feel a clump(offshore grass) pull it through, shake it, let it sit, the lift the rod tip and that is when the bite comes The set up is just like a shaky head
  19. Longer rod= more effective in flipping grass. You can prefer anything and I would agree with someones preference(whatever works) but the statement above is physics ;D For what it is worth I am 6'5''. Oh the "contest" was to prove a point and back the statement above, that a longer rod makes you more effective. And age has nothing to do with physics buddy, I'll be the first one to say I am not that smart, but I know a small amount of facts and that first sentence is one of them.
  20. Reel Mech just rolled over in his grave and he isn't even dead!!
  21. What I said flipping was was very close to how it is defined in that link : Long rods are meant for leverage on getting fish out of cover, and making it easy to just flip a bait out to a spot with minium effort.....
  22. grass beds, flipping out 15-20ft(sometimes more) in front of me I don't know is that close to the boat? 5BL just said pitching close into docks? I do not think that is the only type of pitching but is a practical definition "pitching is for distance, like a short horizantal cast under a dock" I am tired but I think that is a oxymoron :-?
  23. :-? I flip a lot and do not understand vertical flipping, Are you tossing a bait into pockets right at your boat??? I'll show you length matters: Flipping Contest, both of us in the same boat you with a 6'6'' heavy rod me with any 8 foot heavy, see who does better
  24. shakey head a trick worm
  25. Love Shawn Johnson! Such a good commercial
