  1. You disqualified the fish and the question when you said dink.
  2. If I can make them bite a moving lure I prefer that as I like to cover water.
  3. Big bladed spinnerbaits Big worms with rattles Wide wobble crankbaits Rattiling jigs Welcome to the forum! Fish tight to cover Backs of pockets & creeks as they tend to clear the first Run the lake to hunt the clearer water(Usually the lower end)
  4. I said more than eight because when you find a school of feeding fish (I'm not talking about schoolies) you can catch a ton by changing the direction of the cast as well as changing lure choice.
  5. #1, for the simple reason it shows that I have figured out a pattern and have developed a stragety that keeps me on the fish.
  6. PM back at you.
  7. Going out and shaking a bunch of rods will tell you absolutely nothing. Take a spooled reel and a lure with you and button it up. That's the only way to get any kind of feel for a rod, and then that's not 100%. If the store refuses,(And I have never seen one that would) move on to the next retailer.
  8. Zoom Trick worm fished wacky style in Watermelon/Red hands down or a brown jig with a green/pumpkin Zoom trailer.
  9. Jigs and 10" worms. I like a brown jig with a green/pumpkin trailer, and it won't hurt if the twin tail traler has some blue specks in it. Depending on the type of day or weather I like a Watermelon/red, black/Neon, or camo color in my larger worms.
  10. River fishing is pretty easy to figure out. Current is the key. The fish will relate to the current looking for ambush areas that provide them with any relief from the current. Keep moving and fish any obstruction in the water that they can hide behind. This can be logs, rock, stumps, wing dams, dock pilings. Fish any cut that allows the fish to move out into. They will set up on either point that the cut makes as well as moving back into the quiter waters away from the river. when you get back in a pool fish it as you would any other body of water. Look for the cover and any cuts or depressions that lead into and out of the backwater area. Don't forget the ledges out on the main river channel. If the current will allow you, fish them with cranks, plastics, and jigs. When I lived in Alabama one of my favortie areas on Logan Martin was up above the I-20 bridge. We would run up several miles and use the current to move us along the river ledges and when it was right you could load the boat.
  11. Good lord, that's horrible news. Prayers out to him and all involved.
  12. If I cannot find it around home, I try to buy from the sponsers that are on this site. I always give them the first shot. 95% of my needs can be purchased from the sponsers that support this site.
  13. I'll let the fish be the judge. The only color I'm interested in is the water color or whether it is a darker day. I fish the darker hues on a darker day Pumpkin, Watermelon, and shades of green on the lighter days Junebugs, blacks, grapes, browns on the darker days. All of the above could have a red flake and do 70* of the time. Crankbaits: Shad colors, along with a chartruse/blue back ot tan back, and the reds while fishing a trap. Spinnerbaits: white or Chartruse/white. I always turn the skirt with the darker color to the top. Never seen a bait fish with a darker belly. I see lots of anglers failing to address this point and to me it makes a big difference. Buzzbaits: Black 90* of the time reguardless of the day or water color.
  14. It's just a tool. I have plenty of tools.
  15. Big bass was struggling to swallow the other and it probably excited the rest of the school.
  16. Just under or over five lbs. Nice fish.
  17. I will first change up the lure choice to cover all water depths. Ten to twenty cast. One thing I will not do is go to another spot like it. It is time to make a change and depending on the water conditions, time of year, time of day I will either move either deeper, shallower, or totally change locations on the lake(Upper, mid, or lower), depending on where I started. I may also change the type of cover and structure I have been targeting.
  18. The worse thing you can do is listen to anyone that has no experience telling you how to repair your motor. Get it checked out by someone that knows or you'll just be throwing money away changing things that may or maynot fix the problem.
  19. Most of the bank fishermen would trade places with you in a heartbeat.
  20. Hub ready to slide on Spare tire 4-Way lug wrench R & L Tail/Signal lights Small hydralic jack that will slide under an axle when the tire is flat. (Screw jacks won't cut it). Can of wheel bearing grease Shop towels Cotter pins, washers,Lug nuts, etc. Rear oil seals Dust covers Tools to do the job including a hammer The hydralic jack and a box with all of the above sit under the rear seat of my truck at all times. I have only had to change the spare tire twice in 30 years. Never, ever have I lost a hub on a trip and I'm talking Texas to Alabama, and the Tennesse area or Southwest into Mexico from the Houston area.
  21. I'll have to agree with these statements. I've caught fish trying to spawn as early as mid January around here. I also caught an 8.14 off a bed on Rayburn four years ago on June 11. This fish was locked on and activitly spawning at the time. Jack
  22. Glad you like them. Those stupid little lures have caught a gazillion bass and made heros out of zeros. I fish them a lot, but don't get locked up on them. A lure is nothing but a tool to search out and catch a fish. It may be great one day and suck the next. Keep your mind, ears, eyes, etc. open and let the fish tell you what is the best for the day. Otherwise you will have a boat load of them you rarely fish anymore. Don't get locked up on colors either. It will hurt you in the long run. Falling in love with anything other than a very wealthy, long legged woman with a 50,000 bass boat is a huge mistake.
  23. Thanks, now which one of the two and why?
  24. 5.7302 lbs. If you are happy with the mount that is all that matters. Personally though I don't care for the layout and the colors are off, white is especially. Just doesn't look natural, but that is only my opinion. That said, hang it and enjoy. Congratulations on a nice fish. Jack
  25. There is a picture of it on the TFF. If that fish weighs 18.5 then the 6.11 I caught fishing with Catt last week had to weigh twelve.
