Welcome to the BR Forums - the BEST bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. Congratulations for getting out of the Republic of Kalifornia. Have you experienced any culture shock yet??
  3. Welcome to the BR Forums - the PREMIER bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. Your pond should have a few hawgs in there for you!
  4. None that I know of. All the bass I've caught swam away nicely and appeared healthy. I can only hope that they all survived OK (which I suspect they all did).
  5. Welcome to the BR Forums - the BEST bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. I'd try some topwaters early in the AM and at dusk, like the aforementioned frog or some large poppers like a Hula Popper and possibly even a Jitterbug. Large bass eat large baits:o) You might also want to try RW's beloved Fat Ikas, T-rigged with the skirt up.
  6. I'm interested in learning to play the Banjo and was wondering if there are any BR members who currently play? I'm looking at buying a Morgan Monroe Rocky Top Series Bluegrass 5 string banjo. Would some of you players please give me some advice on what I should buy and do? THANKS!!
  7. Way to go, Joe!!! I read somewhere that it costs the CA taxpayer $40K+ per year to house a prisoner! As I see it, that means CA taxpayers are paying each person in jail a $40K+ per year salary while there are hard working honest folks who can't make that much legally! There's SOMETHING WRONG with that picture, in MY opinion!
  8. A hearty WELCOME to the BR Forums - the PREMIER bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. Many great guys and gals on BR who are eager to share a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
  9. I too am extremely saddened to hear about your friend's melanoma! My wife has been badgering me to put on sunscreen every time I come back from an outting with another sunburn! I fully intend to DO THAT and wear more protective clothing from now on!
  10. I was a sucker for all the "guaranteed to catch fish" lures that came out way back then. I HAD to have the Vivif and Vibra-Bat lures as soon as the small 5 & 10 Cent store had them stocked. NEVER did catch a fish on either one. I now have a Vibra-Bat collection of over 30 of 'em just to look at every once in awhile and reminise of those childhood days.
  11. Welcome to the BR Forums - the PREMIER Bass fishing site on the Net, IMO! Bass fishing IS indeed an addictive sport. At least you now have "that first one" under your belt. There will be many more to come, especially if you read and follow all the great advice from the super guys and gals on the BR forums.
  12. Extremely saddened to hear of Dottie's demise! I still think there are some huge bass in Dixon. In fact, I hope to fish the lake a few times later this year. Bad thing is they don't allow float tubers or any personal boats. Bummer! Guess I'll have to rent one of their motorboats.

Read that one somewhere before and it brought tears to my eyes then as well!! Stories of human kindness and compassion are indeed worth everyone's attention, IMO. Too bad they're seldom deemed "sensational" enough to warrant actual news coverage.
  14. Have some SERIOUS FUN, my friend!!!
  15. You might want to consider carrying an auxillary 2 gallon gas can around until you know for sure exactly how long the motor will run on its internal tank. Of course you'd still have your trolling motors to fall back on in case you did happen to run out of fuel. Just an idea.
  16. Interesting combo. Let us know how it works. I suspect that it WILL!!!
  17. OUTSTANDING and CONGRATULATIONS to ya!!! Please place paramount importance on SAFETY, then FUN.

Hey, Dean.....NICE to see that you're back!!!
  20. A hearty WELCOME to the BR Forums - the BEST bass fishing site on the Net, IMO.
  21. BEST of LUCK to you, searoach!!! Here's hoping the interview goes great and you get the job!!
  22. The Malibu Mini-X that I used once had two flush rod holders mounted to the side and a little behind the seat to aide the paddle stoke. I found that 2 rods were plenty, at least for me. When I get my H3 Freestyle float tube/kickboat hybrid, I'm going to fabricate 2 PVC rod holders and have another rod lying in the storage area behind the seat.
  23. I am probably going to buy the Humminbird Fishin Buddy 130 which has the SideScan capabilitiy to identify/locate fish in the direction it's pointed out to the side and a higher resolution than the 120 model! I've done a LOT of research on this issue and was considering a Garmin 140, Cuda 168, Cuda 242, Cuda 245, Humminbird 525, Fishmark 320, Lowrance 86X, and the PiranaMax series. I like the Fishin Buddy 130 the BEST of all. It's not color, but who cares. It can spot fish up to 120' away in front, in back, and to the sides. Now that's impressive. You might want to check them out. They are in the $200 - $210 range and should be an EASY mount on my new H3 Freestyle float tube/kick boat when it arrives. I also like the fact that it is SELF-CONTAINED with NO wires to run and it carries/works on 6 AA batteries inside the unit. Just my opinion:o) UPDATE 5/8/08: I just now ordered the Humminbird Fishin Buddy 130! It has all the features that I wanted in a fish finder AND it's so portable. I'll post a review as soon as I get and use it on my H3.
  24. I personally don't think there IS a better site on the Net than the BR Forums to learn about bass fishing or any other kind of freshwater fishing as far as that goes. As the other guys have already said: read/read/read all the great info that BR has to offer. Then I'd like to add: ask/ask/ask all the questions that you have still unanswered. There are MANY venerable guys and gals on BR who will eagerly answer all your questions. These Forums ARE the place to BE! I know I have learned a LOT since I joined and started asking questions:o)
