  1. Hoggin' for me too
  2. This technique I learned from KVD on a Bass pros episode and it is my goto all spring in any lake, Jerkbaitin' 7' medium rod rigged with 10lb florocarbon and your favorite jerkbait. I prefer the Rapala slashbait 3.5" to 5" that dives to 3'. The color for me must have a dark back. I always start with the smaller one. I Cast it out into 5-10' of water from my boat. Then the hard part is to snap it 1-2' with your rod tip down and to the side. Then point your rod tip toward the lure for a second. This allows it to walk to the side as much as it can. Sometimes its one snap then pause , sometimes its 2 and sometimes its 3 on the same cast. So once again its snap, snap, point---snap, point--snap, snap, snap, point---Then BANG, fish on. The hookset is a side sweep but the hook is usually set on the snap because the fish hits it on the pause. Its a reaction strike. The pause is very short.
  3. my biggest fear always was casting past the center line in the boat so I always ask the boater about any limitations. My other pet peeve is that I keep my area neat in the back so when its time to gun I don't have to gather all my lures and waste time. Just have fun and good luck
  4. I guess I'm not frugal.
  5. I don't use rattles. The smallies can feel them scurrying on the bottom.
  6. Huh? A 1 inch worm? Are you fishing for bait?
  7. I would send it to Abu because they are likely to fix it for free or throw in any parts no charge and they may pay return shipping. They have a great service dept. No offense reel mechanic, but I know you don't work for free.
  8. heres an owner hook http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0037619320392a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all-search_redir&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&No=234&Ne=2510&Ntt=hooks&sort=all&QueryText=hooks&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&N=4842&redirect=true&Nty=1&cmCat=search_redir
  9. the g-lock doesn't bend on a hookset its shorter and thicker I think. I have had a lot of problems with the EWG last year. I have been using them for 4 years without a problem until last year. They may be using a cheaper metal. Anyone else notice this?
  10. St. Croix Premier but may soon become Shimano Crucial with the lifetime guarantee for the same price ($90)
  11. St. Croix Premier MH/Fast 7' with 10lb fireline /no leader I used to use medium but I fish alot in Lillipads
  12. not sure how far you are from Lake Horace in Weare,NH but I spent a week the on Vaca fishing with a 4hp johnboat and it was great. The place has alot of weekend boaters but not a ton of bass fisherman. There is alot of deep structure and great night fishing. There isn't too much shallow cover or weeds, just deep water. I caught lots of bass by the dam. Don't go unless you have a depthfinder. Smallie heaven.
  13. can u really cast a swimbait 100 yards? Its not like a big bass to spool you like a striper or tuna
  14. Braid doesn't chew up my eyes but its been doing a number on my teeth. LOL
  15. I hear that round reels are better than low profile for heavy swimbaits. Is it necessary? Will the LP ones wear out faster due to the size of the spool?
  16. I love my curados I had 2 different abus and I had problems with both level wind worm gears. I got 2 replacement reels and even the new ones broke. Finally the sent me another model. Their customer service is awesome though, no questions asked!
  17. fishizzle replied to Tr186DC's topic in Introductions
    this is the place welcome
  18. I just picked up the 6:1 model (AC500pt) at Cabelas half price for $60. The salesman said it was a great reel (of course). Cabelas reviews mostly got 5 stars except for those who got defective models. What do you think? I will be using it for cranks, jerks and texas rigged stuff
  19. nice fat fish
  20. when you get stuck on the bottom where does the break occur? ps. great thread
  21. 1. try to not break my line everytime I set the hook smoking a cigar 2. Win a club event as a non boater 3. place in a big team event 4. Catch a 5lber on a swimbait 5. find the secret spot I lost in the middle of the lake 6. have another 50 smallie day on a jerkbait 7. catch a 5 lb smallie
  22. http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/nature-wildlife/150607-dangers-baling-twine-raptors-all-wildlife.html heres a sad photo, its not just fishing line killing birds
  23. as someone else said fisherman and pleasure boaters are the eyes and ears of the waterways. States now have emergency phone numbers to report suspicious activities and illegal activity on the water. Many bodies have been found by fisherman in rivers. Lots of fishing groups have come together to pick up trash on the banks and many fisherman do it every time they go out and see litter.
  24. As a UCONN Master Gardener I can also tell you that the word 'Organic ' is deceiving in fertilizers. Excess nitrogen and phosphorous leach into our water making algae blooms and growing weeds at an alarming rate. Organic has to do with its origin not its affect on the environment. Organic ferts still have Nitrogen and phosphorous. Its the same components as Scotts and others. Also leaching and runoff of fertilizers is due to heavy rains carrying chemicals to places they are not meant to be. There are 3 ways to save money and save the environment. 1. Cut the recommended application rate in half and fert twice. once each month. Grass and plants are not able to absorb the fert. at that rate. 2. Water fert in gently after application. Heavy or prolonged rains wash fert. past the root zone so plants miss most of it. 3. The most important season to fert. is the fall. Thats when most root growth occurs. It would be ok to skip the other seasons. If you feel you must fert, see rule 1. You don't have to live next to water to have your fert carried into waterways. Thats why they have catchbasins and drainage ditches. It all ends up in the lakes. oceans and rivers anyway. Remember Scotts (and others) is a marketing company.
