  1. My youngest like ketchup only on his dogs. Zweigles red hots, and Zimmerman's porkers are best in class, if you ask my grandfather. For years, I thought the white hots I was eating at the restaurant were Zweigles. Turns out they are Zimmerman's, despite all the signs to the contrary. Not sure if that's still true. I'm not sure why meat in casing is so big here, but there's a lot of places still making it. My great grandfather ran a kosher deli in a storefront attached to Rochester meats, on Meigs and S. Clinton, in the Swillburg neighborhood, which was made up of primarily meat processing businesses. We know our hot dogs.
  2. Forgot about this video. Little Popmax cast to catch action.
  3. We might want to have a discussion about what is a hot dog, or what is actually a frank.
  4. Not at all. Was "drop shotting" with mono on a Zebco 33 and 5-6 combo before the name was coined. It's we all learned how to fish up here, as kids. Most would use snelled hooks, but my grandfather said for kids, it was better to have the hook directly connected to the rod, with no slack. That way kids could feel a light bite better. The only real difference is running the tag end back through, which was something I used to laugh at my uncle for doing. Imaging that? It's funny, because I am also a musician. I started in punk bands, though. Blue mohawk.
  5. You don't need a ground. You want to put an inline fuse on the positive line.
  6. I find when using a heavier weight, they slip out of the open end hanger. Been doing the hairband thing for over decade - works great.
  7. That does look good. Too bad about the thin cut fries though. Crinkle cut are far superior. Cheddar cheeseburger, on a hard roll, off the char, with bacon, bbq, and sweet pickles. <mic drop> Anyone ever in the Rochester, NY area, hit my up. I'll buy.
  8. Put a hairband on the butt grip of the rod, and slip the weight under that when you tore the rod. You can still do the twist the line over the blank a few times with this as well.
  9. I'm not sure I follow the logic here...though I'm sure it works fine. You modify the clip, making it non-adjustable, so you can rig the hook to be adjustable? I mean you solved a problem that didn't exist. The dropper length is adjustable as long as the tag end. It doesn't make any difference if you shorten the dropper length by moving the sinker up the tag line. Fish don't care if there's extra line after the sinker. Just seems like a fussy solution to a non problem.
  10. None at all. My preferred length is 6-3. The rods I use are not "drop shot specific," but feature the same taper often offered as a drop shot rod: Avid AVS63MLXF and Avid AVS63MXF.
  11. You need to get over that. It's the least cutting knot around. Only cinch the line from the tag end. NEVER the main line. ******************************************* Further notes about drop shot, specifically deep, vertical drop shot, over 15' deep. Straight fluoro, no leaders. I start at 1/2 oz., and sometimes go up. I don't want my bait to move. Since you aren't casting (it's strictly vertical) the heavy weight is fine on a ML or M rated rod. I'm not married to any particular size hook. Match the hook to the size of the bait. I'll use anything from 1/0 down to a #6 for smallmouth bass. They all work equally well. The Gammy Split Shot hooks are good, as are the Owner Mosquito hooks. Bait wise, use a floating bait if you're after a subtle presentation - pretty much completely still. If you want to twitch, or do the lift-drop presentation for more active fish, then a sinking bait works best.
  12. Most Z-man baits will float a hook. Trick worms all sink, salted or not.
  13. Sounds like a plain old blister to me. But I'm not a doctor.
  14. Is she allergic to fluoride? You sure it's not just a blister. That's all I could think of. Switch to another line, and see if it goes away.
  15. Python. It's easy for me to see in the water.
  16. The point is there are exaggerations and sensationalism that make stories like this nothing more than click bait.
  17. Hybrids that produce viable offspring that can reproduce are no longer relegated to subspecies status. That's a shift in the way science classify species that started in the 90s. Scale counts are real deal breaker, in my book, and I really agree with the Florida/Northern "strains" being different species. Changes in scientific nomenclature are slow, though. There has to be a study, a dataset, a paper published, and articles submitted to the scientific committee. I don't remember the whole process, but my old boss went through the process of having a killifish species named after him, and it was slow and complicated.
  18. This is hyperbole. They aren't that delicate.
  19. Reflecting back on when Lake Ontario was around two feet low, while right now it's almost three feet high, billions of dollars in damages, a couple of fatalities, house falling into the lake, boating suspended.... Better days:
  20. This is the 3rd thread posted about this.... Typical sensationalist journalism at best. 10 lb. bass doesn't hit the radar in Texas. The requirement for their Share-A-Lunker program is 13 lbs.
  21. Some of those VERY similar subspecies have very limited range. So you would know what fish you're catching by what location you are fishing. Whether these are "species" or not depends on what particular biologist feels the definition of a species is. Advances in DNA testing has made this a little more complicated.
  22. I have 20# 832 on a spinning reel, a Pinnacle Performa 20. It's prone to twisting a bit, and I occasionally start getting "wind knots." I don't think it's the reel, since I had almost no issues with 6# Invisx. Trolling it out, and reeling it back up fixes the issue.
  23. Sorry, we are not the proper venue to air complaints about a manufacturer. Try calling them directly: (800) 826-7042 Otherwise, this matter is closed here. From the Forum Rules & FAQs:
  24. I didn't see this earlier, but how is three tear holes in a senko better than one or none?
  25. Done. All merged for you! The Harbor Freight deal is the way to go. They come with a title and all the docs you need for DMV. Then lust some metal cross bars, wrapped with pool noodles. Finish with two cam lock straps. My buddy actually has his set up with two tiers of cross bars, and can carry six kayaks at once.
