Who is making the high end multi strand braids these days?
Yes Robert the top braid in my opinion is the Suffix 131. It outcasts others for distance. Doesn’t get wind knots like other brands when using 10lb braid on spinning tackle. It is extremely round in shape & doesn’t dig into the spool on casting gear. No flaws except it is more expensive than some others but I know you appreciate using the best.

Big fish on spinning or casting ?
I have caught 7lb+ smallmouth on both spinning & casting gear. I’m comfortable using either one especially considering the only obstruction I have to deal with is the bottom because I’m fishing deeper open water. The only reason I choose casting gear is because of greater line capacity. But for largemouth I prefer casting gear because of the cover you have to deal with. As others have mentioned you have to match the overall tackle to the fisherie & conditions. I do use mostly all medium heavy moderate or MH fast action rods for both species except for heavy action rods for largemouth when needed.

7 lb Northern Michigan Smallmouth Bass ~
Maybe I should put a small piece of worm on my rear jerk bait hook. Double the attraction.

Lost her…AGAIN
I hope you get her Mike. It has become personal.

Best guess at bass weight
First pic looks like a 7+ maybe an eight. But the 2nd pic looks like a 6-7.

What's your landing ratio?
I like @Pat Brown answer. When a fish is hooked? Probably 90-95%

overheat alarm
A cracked wire in the wiring harness can throw an alarm at idle because the excessive vibration at idle causes flex in the cracked wire. It doesn't happen at higher speeds because the engine runs smoother with less vibration. It happened to me on a 250 Pro XS. Hard one to diagnose.

Stunning
I know for a fact that lake trout will hit a lure by ramming it with their heads. While trolling T-60 flat fish we often snagged trout in the head between the eyes. They were ramming the bait before eating it. After stunning it they turn around & eat it. We also learned to give slack after the first hit because a second hit or actual bite was coming. Dolphins will ram a shark to kill it as will other saltwater fish that try to stun a bait before eating it. So yes it is entirely possible that bass would hit a bait first to stun it. Especially a trolled bait or steadily retrieved bait as opposed to a slowly fished bait like a worm.

7 lb Northern Michigan Smallmouth Bass ~
Sevens are really special especially when you understand the countless hours & preparation it takes to achieve them.

BFS Swivel Snap recommendation
These have been bullet proof for me. I use the 60lb on larger baits & the 26 & 33lb on smaller stuff. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Hyper_Welded_Quick_Snaps_6pk/descpage-OHQS.html?from=gpmax&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwmYCzBhA6EiwAxFwfgC6CZgQwCh85L452O16yelGwLhn3N0qPFpzQ_Fiaet2bKxIs2cP0exoCi8IQA

Where do you rank on the Angling Tech Scale (ATS) and why?
I'm a 0 some days & a 10 other days based on who's boat I'm mooching a ride on.

I struck out, but the pond hit a home run for me.
I got to hand it to you for your energy & ability to keep your spirits high. The beautiful landscapes along with all the bass your catching has got to be the motivation.

Any near-death experiences(?)
Esophageal cancer survivor that endured 7.5 hour surgery to remove my esophagus & a small portion of my stomach & 17 lymph nodes then replacing the removed esophagus with reconstructed stomach tissue called a gastric pull-up. Excellent medical care by Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami saved my bacon.

Busy boat versus painting bullseyes on big ones?
Quality first quantity second

I finally did it!
I use a boga grip on treble hooked baits for that very reason.

Looks like my fishing is going to be limited for awhile
Good luck with your recovery. Back issues are no fun.

Shaping up to be a pretty good year ~
Congrats on breaking 30lbs. Well you are putting a whooping on me so far. I had a 6-11, 5-5, 5-5, 5-4 & 5-1 for my spring trip totaling 27.62 lbs for five fish. But I do have a fall trip in October planned for Erie so I should be able to improve if my timing is better.

A different perspective
@gimruis Yes I thought the same thing about Australia being an island but it is classified as a continent.

A different perspective
It's education time. 10 largest islands in the world. 1 Greenland 2,130,800 square miles 2 New Guinea 3 Borneo 4 Madagascar *5 Baffin Island 507,451 square miles 6 Sumatra 7 Honshu 8 Victoria 9 Great Britain *10 Ellesmere 75,767 square miles Disclosure the only reason I know this was because I was helping my wife with last weekends cross word puzzle. The clue was a type of monkey found on the fifth largest island. The clue was incorrect. They meant to say the 4th largest island Magagascar home of the Lemurs. I knew the clue was off because the 5th largest island is Baffin which is located in northern Canada part of the Arctic region & too cold for monkeys but good climate for polar bears.
