Why Use a Spinning Reel??
There are things that spinning reels will handle better, generally light line or finesse techniques such as dropshotting, shaky head, small plastics, etc. There are also things that a baitcaster will do better such as flipping, pitching, swimbaits, heavier soft-plastic presentations, crankbaits, frogs, spinnerbaits, etc. Notice, I did not say "as well," I said better. Because, while you can flip and pitch with a spinning reel, you have a lot more power with a baitcaster, and that power comes in handy when you need to pull big bass out of heavy cover. I will concede that there is nothing that you can do with a baitcaster that you can't do with a spinning reel, but that doesn't mean that a baitcaster won't do some things better. If you think that your spinning reel is the best choice for every situation, you're incorrect IMO. We all know the kind of bass that Fish Chris hulls in on spinning gear so yes, it can be done, but most power fishing techniques are still accomplished better on a baitcaster. Do you ever wonder why you never see proffessional bass fishermen using spinning reels or baitcasters exclusively? It's because they know that both have their place and excel in different situations.

Making a normal rod a split grip
That is one of the things I like most about split grip rods. I also find split grips to be more comfortable than full grip rods, and split grip rods are lighter than full grip rods, there's no arguing that point. Anytime you remove materiel from something it is going to be lighter.

Dont you just love when people say things like...
Some guys say "I lost a 5lber" and I have complete confidence that they did, another guy says "I losta 5lber" and I know its probably closer to a 4lber. I personally always underguess fish weight/length. Always. Its not intentional I just do. I'm never far off, but I am always under.

Electric only reserviors in PA
Pinchot is electric only but it receives insane amounts of fishing pressure for its size.

Jury Duty tomorrow
Here's an excuse that I once used try to get out of a test, I believe you could apply it to this or any other situation... "Ahh, yes, Jury Duty, well you see, I would love to but the thing is, my psychiatrist doesn't recommend that I place myself under any stressful situations after "The Incident" occurred. He says that "I manifest my stress into unprovoked and uncontrollable acts of violence toward the perceived cause of the stress." I think I'm fine though, there's no sharp objects in the room right? So, when do I start? This method didn't work so well for me but by all means, go ahead and try it ;D I personally would love to serve on a jury, I would find it really interesting.

Are You Tired All The Time?
Pick up a monster BFC. It stands for "Big F$#$in Can" Caffeine overload! Seriously though, you should go to a sleep specialist. A family member of mine had the exact same symptoms as you and they were just diagnosed with a form of narcolepsy.

Movies that disturb you
The Wall Not disturbing just really screwed up, but I absolutely love it! In my top five favorite movies. I don't know how all those people used to watch The Wall on acid though. That would be the scariest experience in the world.

Drop shot - Swimbait.
Maybe it was bobby lane, I saw him talk about using the power mullet swimbait at the event he just won, don't remember him saying whether or not he was using it on a drop shot though.

Jerk Bait hook set - need some help
Unless the fish is deep and directly below you, I'd keep the rod low, and perpendicular to the fish, for any treble hook bait.

Flippin' setup
That's basically the combo I use except I built my flipping rod on the loomis IMX904 blank with a split grip. It's pretty sweet! The curado is a sick reel for flipping/pitching applications

centrifugal or magnetic, which do you prefer and why
Centrifugal all the way, if I need to adjust something I use the cast control.

nonboaters vs. boaters in a club
you switch a nonboater to a boater?? with someone elses boat??---thats awfully generous Why do all the anglers need to be paired--Is it all partnered events? Our club has 15 members with 5 NB, and the NB fishes against the boaters too No, not with somebody elses boat. Some guys who sign up as riders have boats, so if there are too many riders, one of the riders who has a boat will switch over to a boater. No, it's not partnered events. You don't fish as a "team". The pairing are simply to match boaters with nonboaters.

nonboaters vs. boaters in a club
My clubs about 50 people, but only about 20-40 sign up for every given tournament. We have plenty of guys with boats so whenever we have too many riders, we just switch one over to a boater, if we have too many boaters we switch one over to a rider. If we have an odd number of people signed up, we usually can find another club member to sign up, if not, somebody in the club will call a friend and get them o register. They're not in the club so they can't get points but they can still cash a check.

Fishing new water
;D We don't get to many gators around here... As far as fishing goes, pretty much like fishfordollars, find main lake points and look for grass, generally covering a lot of water.

flipping and pitching?
Look at some articles or google image search it. Basically its a method to present your bait accurately and with as little noise as possible from short range distances. Try putting up this thread in the general fishing section instead, you'll get a lot more responses, flipping and pitching isn't really a smallmouth technique (usually).

Favorite Disgustingly Unhealthy Foods
What are your favorite disgustingly unhealthy foods. The kind of stuff that has grease dripping off of it with a 400 calorie per bite intake. For me, it's those chili cheese dogs that you can get at Sheetz (SP?). I look at them and my brain says "Don't put that in your mouth..." but your stomach says "wow this is amazing!"

High dollar reels catch more fish?
I agree with your first statement and partially disagree with the rest. I've owned over a 1/2 doz. Abu/Garcia Ambassadeurs, in over 40 years of fishing. If they aren't a quality product, I'll eat my shirt! I've still got my first one and it still works just fine. And these reels are a far cry (cost wise) to what is purported - by popular opinion - to be the best of the baitcasting reels. I do agree that when you spend more money, you may think you are getting a better product. But when all is said & done, the Abu's will still be around a lot longer and they will cost a heck of a lot less to maintain - both in parts and labor. Best value for the buck on the market - hands down. Geez... For years the Abbadabbadoos were a standard, but for the last fifteen or twenty years, dog pooh-pooh. The Revo line is the first introduction in decades for any thing resembling a "quality" reel. Stick with Shimano: Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. 8-) Yeah, but it's still a Shimano. Did you ever wonder why there is a best selling video on how to repair your Shimano reels at home but no such thing for Daiwa? It's because Daiwa don't need it. What video game are you talking about? Just stick to your Daiwa's with their cute little twitchin' bars ;D

How many rods have you guys broke?

How bad will my boat hurt me?
I'm all set up for the tournaments, minus the livewell. I'm thinking of using a cooler with a high quality aerator. I've fished with guys who have had a lot of problems with cooler live wells, if you can you really should try to get a livewell installed. But as far as the fishing goes, Robby's right, our lakes aren't big, the only issue you might have is at the Wallenpaupack. Bird dog is on the money too, a lot of the guys in glass boats are going to run right by some of the best spots. I fished a tournament last year where a guy couldn't get his motor started and he had to fish with his trolling motor all day. Well, my partner and I made a 15mile run to fish, and when we came back at the end of the day, guess who had the big bag? The guys who fished with his trolling motor 100 yards from the launch.

classless
There are? :-? Good things about detroit? Hmm, let's see... it's not New Jersey... yep, that's about it... ;D Seriously though, an insult on a city isn't the same as an insult on it's people. I absolutely HATE the city of New York City, I personally find it to be revolting, but I also know some great people from New York and I know that New York is of massive cultural importance.

The one that got away....
It happened a few years ago, during the proceeding two weeks I had caught a 7lber and my PB, which was a hair over 8lbs. Anyway, I was fishing with a senko and I made a long arching cast; the lure had no more than hit the water when a bass crushed it. It was fighting like crazy but I managed to get it close enough to get a look at it. That bass could have eaten the 8lber I had caught the week before! It was definitely #10, there's not a doubt in my mind, the thing was an absolute tank. Well, shortly after I got a good look at her, she buried herself in the weeds and snapped my 8lb line like it was sewing thread (which, being 8lb line, it basically was). I was devastated, 10lb bass don't come around often up here! Oh, and a side note, a sink hole opened up in that pond the next summer, dropping the water level to around a foot and killing all of the bass over 4lbs. :'( :'( :'(

New to tournaments
Hey dude, I'm only 17 so I'll give a fellow teenager some advice. First, yes, that boat will work, although it's not ideal for tournaments. I would suggest though, and I would tell you this even if you had a brand new ranger with a 225hp, that you join a club and fish the first year as a rider. Being a rider, you get to fish with a lot of different people who will have different styles and strengths and you will gain very valuable experience along the way.
