  1. A very simple concept that so many fail to understand...
  2. pointer DD in ghost minnow. Can't beat it in clear water. Like someone else said RC 2.5s are wicked and BPS is having a sale on them at their spring classic. I think they're on sale for around $11.
  3. I hadn't heard of *** either until I became a member here. I used to do my shopping at BPS but I use *** the vast majority of the time now. The free shipping with a purchase over $50 is awesome and they have a ton of baits that BPS doesn't.
  4. They look pretty sweet, I'd like to get my hands on some of those!
  5. I have two separate stockpiles of cash that I save for fishing. The one is for stuff that I need to buy through the course of the year. I use it for replacing line, lost lures, new lures that look promising, lures that never or rarely go on sale, tournament fees, replacing equipment, etc. I have a separate stockpile of cash that I save up in case an awesome deal pops up that I need to act on quickly. For example: last year when the tour editions went on clearance at $130, I used my "deal" stockpile and I bought several of them at once. This may not be the best way of doing things but it works for me.
  6. Dude trust me its not going to be too big for northeastern fish, the things only four inches long. I've caught bass (smallmouth and largemouth) on king shads which are about the same size and I know a bunch of guys that catch smallies on the susquehanna using swimbaits up to 5, and occasionally 6 inches.
  7. Man I wish I could find this pic from last summer to show you guys. I had just got back from a week in the poconos where I was catching 20 bass a day easily and we went to a local farm to pick strawberries. The strawberry juice soaked in to the scratched up part of my thumb and was red for about a week lol.

  9. I hate loud, annoying, obnoxious people who blast rap music in the car next to me during a traffic jam because they think that they're hard@$$.
  10. What is the most memorable fight you have had with a fish. It doesn't necessarily have to be the biggest, the longest, or most unique, just the one that sticks the most in your memory. The best fight I've ever had happened when I was fishing on the susquehanna. I was fishing a LC pointer 128 in a deep hole near an old bridge piling. I had only made a few jerks when I felt the hardest strike I've ever felt in my life, the rod was very close to being literally ripped out of my hands. I was using a 7ft MH rod and this bass had it doubled over like you wouldn't believe. I doubt the fight lasted more than 30 seconds but those were the most intense 30 seconds I've experienced fishing. It felt like I had a mac truck on the end of my line, I figured I had hooked a big musky or snagged a massive carp. When I got the fish to the boat it turned out to be a smallie barely pushing 17". I've fought 8lb largemouth and 5lb smallmouth that didn't fight half as hard as he did. He isn't close to being the biggest bass I've caught, he wasn't even the biggest bass I caught that day, but he sure had a lot of heart!!!
  11. I went trout fishing on opening day with my grandfather. I caught a few and I thought it was awesome so my dad and I started going fishing together and it evolved from their. Oddly enough, my first time fishing isn't nearly as memorable to me as my first tournament. Fishing didn't became a full-blown, all consuming passion for me until I fished my first tournament. I fished it as a rider and I vividly recall being awed when the tournament director called our number and we went blasting off to our first spot. I love fun fishing but to me, nothing beats the energy of hooking a bass during a tournament. It was and is the ultimate adrenaline rush.
  12. MH extra fast, word of caution: make sure it's actually medium-heavy. A lot of companies rate rods as medium-heavy when they really are closer to medium.
  13. X2 Perfect setup for a young kid IMO. The pflueger president is an awesome reel and will hold up to several seasons, but on the other hand, if he decides fishing is not his thing, you didn't throw big bucks down the toilet and you're left with a outfit that's good enough for you to use yourself.
  14. I was a terminator guy until I got turned on to war eagle and nichols last year. If you guys haven't fished nichols, give em a try, they are simply amazing!!!
  15. X2, I consider myself to be one of those people who believes reels are tools and I would rather have function than good looks, however, I do have a breaking point. Ardent reels are just plain ugly!!!
  16. Its not 100% fluorocarbon, its just fluorocarbon coated. I'm sure some other guys can give you more technical explanations. I will tell you I am a huge fan of P-Line fluoroclear!!! With the exception of my flipping rod (50lb power pro) all my reels are spooled with fluoroclear.
  17. I feel your pain bro. I had $900 bucks worth of rods and reels stolen a few months ago, granted it was at the boat ramp not in my house. Try calling your home owners insurance, they covered almost all of my stolen rods and reels and I actually was able to upgrade to updated stuff lol, still hurt but thats one thing you might want to look into. I agree that it was probably someone you know, beat them with your flippin stick when you find the S.O.B.!!!
  18. isn't this cool, how many girls like fishing, 1/100,000,000,000. Wow! 8-) :-?
  19. Like others said you need to go just for the experience. The first time I was in a BPS I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. I have been to some other BPSs that haven't been too great but the Harrisburg one is awesome IMHO. The guys in the fishing department actually know what they're talking about and are very familiar with the local fishing scene. I do most of my shopping on *** now but I still venture into BPS occasionally.
  20. Sorry, don't mean to jack the thread but do you like the recoil guides? I have been interested in some rods that have them but I've heard mixed reviews about them being noisy. Have you had any problems with them?
  21. Someone has a thread about the$49 allstar rods up right now that you might want to check out. I have one and for the money they're pretty darn good. I only use it for trout fishing a couple times a year but so far its held up well, especially considering the cost. here's the thread http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1235389528
  22. Here's an example that kind of explains it. Let's say there is a theoretical fishing hole that has 20 bass. Of those 20 bass, 5 are 5lbers, 5 are 4lbers, 5 are 3lbers and 5 are 2lbers. I can only weigh five fish per day. If I stay at that hole and beat up those fish all day and I am a professional level angler, I might manage to catch all 20 fish on that hole in the course of the day (hypothetically). Now, the heaviest limit I can get off of that hole is 25lbs (5 5lbers) but by catching all of the fish in that hole, I have turned off all of those fish for the following day, meaning if I go back to that hole I will probably get skunked. If this was a two day tournie, I would have 25lbs for the first day and 0lbs for the second day, giving me a total of 25lbs. Now, if I manage my fish the first day, I can catch a solid 15lb limit, leaving about half the fish for the next day. The next day, I can go back to that hole , fish for the rest of those bass and hopefully put together another 15lb bag, bringing my total to 30, which beats the 25lb bag where I didn't manage my fish. I know that was a pretty crude hypothetical example but I hope that kind of explained it a little bit.
  23. Its confusing because there isn't a universal standard that all companies list their rods as but basically an increase in modulus indicates an increase in sensitivity. I'm sure some of the guys on here will be able to give you a more technical answer Heres a little sensitivity comparison for reference (not to be taken seriously, ) ugly sticks < everything else < G Loomis That little diagram should pretty much cover any rod sensitivity question you have! ;D
  24. Haha, no you can't fix it, but you can sure as hell make it hurt! ;D
  25. That's a sweet cake man, your wife has some wicked baking skills!!!
