Working jerkbaits: which hand do you use?
I was waiting to see how long it would take for this entry. ;D X2, When I read the title of the thread I was sure the mods were going to need liberal application of the delete button.

Fishing from a boat vs Shore
The questions you have asked aren't really black and white and can't really be answered with simple, token responses. My best advice would be to buy some fishing books and read as much as you can. In Fishermen's Largemouth Bass: A Handbook of Strategies is an excellent choice. As for going out the first time on the boat, my advice would be to cover as much water as possible and try to get a feel for the parts of the lake you haven't seen before.

Customs rods - the process
X2, there aren't any custom rod makers who are going to build you a rod for less than it would cost factory price, otherwise everyone would buy custom rods instead of factory. The only way to get a custom loomis cheaper than factory costs is if you make it yourself and you have a wholesale discount.

your favourite flourocarbon as main line
I second the "Vanish is garbage motion", I'd rather fish with an anchor rope

BPS REELS
Like Big Tom said, save up for the extreme. First of all, the reels you mentioned (along with pretty much any reel in that price range) are going to have major durability problems and are going to start falling apart with any kind of rigorous use. Secondly, seeing as you are going to be just learning to baitcast, a cheap reel will make it much more difficult to learn. Extremes are excellent reels for the price and they will hold up for a long time.

How bad would it be for Kim Bain to beat you in the classic?
Like some others said, I am doubtful that a woman is going to be able to compete at same level as the men, only because the women's tournament trail doesn't have anywhere near the level of competition that the men's trail does. As for her earning her spot, she won the women's classic and in my mind she deserves her spot. And to those who say that it isn't fair to the male pro angler who would have made it if she hadn't of taken their spot, I think thats just passing the blame. If they missed making the classic, they should have fished better, end of story. It's not Bain's fault. As far as being beaten by a women, I don't have a problem with it at all. Like someone else said, its not like she kicked your but at football.

New Lucky Craft Spinnerbaits
On one hand, I can't see how a spinnerbait is worth $15, but on the other hand, I have never fished a lucky craft (with the exception of the Stacey King BPS jerkbait) that wasn't worth what I paid for it, so maybe there is something to these spinnerbaits. I'll probably pick one up just to see how well they work.

- SX or STX?
Oops, I need to get some more sleep. I seem to have posted this in the wrong section. If one of the mods would be kind of enough to move it... :-[- SX or STX?
As I have begun to see more and more rods on the market being made with EVA grips, I have become curious as to what advantages they provided over cork. Are they more comfortable or sensitive? For those of you that own both, which do you prefer, cork or EVA (or any other similar material) and why?- gulp! i think i ordered too much from cabelas last year...
swmbo didn't throw it in the trash but, she did mention something about a waste of bad trees. You fellas need to learn to intercept your mail before the wife does. ;D- Have you ever had a run in with a Anti-Fishermen
- Jerkbaits
I catch a lot of smallies in stained water in the spring and fall, you just have to adjust your color patterns. I prefer fishing jerkbaits in as clear of water as possible but if you limit your jerkbait fishing to only clear water you're really missing out.- #1 Technique
This isn't my favorite technique but its something I do a little different than most people and its one of my go-to techniques when I'm in a pinch. I use this technique primarily in the spring and summer in clear or stained water. I take a regular bass jig (not a swim jig, a regular bass jig), typically in black and blue or white, and I add a matching Uncle Joshes #11 pork frog. I don't slide it up the hook like you normally would, instead, I leave it on the bend of the hook so that the legs stick out past the end of the skirt. I then fish the jig like a swim jig. I make a long cast out and flutter and jiggle my rod tip the entire way in. Do not stop or let the jig fall at all like you normally would. Just swim it the entire way back to the boat. When done properly, the lure looks like its doing the wave in the water and the pork trailer legs have a nice fluid, swimming motion (it looks like the way a dolphin kicks). I have tried this technique with plastic but you don't get nearly the action you do with pork. I don't fish pork often because of the inherent annoyances involved with using pork but when I'm using this technique pork is the only way to go. I have used this technique multiple times when I was in a pinch during a tournament and it has helped me pull through. You will get some big fish with this setup but typically you're going to catch solid size keepers (good tournie fish). This is also a great search tactic when you need to cover a lot of water. I use it in many of the same situations that you would typically fish a spinnerbait.- Favorite Rod
favorite rods that I own: G Loomis IMXs favorite rods that I've handled: G Loomis GLXs- How Important is Paint and Detail to the Bass?
x3 x4. Detail matters in super-clear water but for the majority of situations its not super important (although it definitely doesn't hurt). I catch more bass with highly detailed lures because I have a lot of confidence in them, not because the details are so attractive that the bass can't resist them. However, I do think its kind of hard to say that color matters and detail doesn't. In many cases, color and detail go hand in hand.- The Frugal Angler
I think most people would agree that there are an abundance of cheaper lures that are durable, work very well and catch plenty of fish. I'm not sure I completely agree with the article when it comes to more expensive baits saving you money in the long run. Most mid-priced baits are about as durable or as durable as the more expensive baits. What I do believe is that with the increased cost of lucky craft, and other expensive Japanese baits comes an increase in performance. Higher-end baits have sharper hooks, more detailed finishes, and superior actions which will help put more fish in the boat. I buy higher end baits because I enjoy fishing them and collecting them, however, I think its both rude and arrogant to assert that using mid-priced or even cheap baits are a waste of an anglers money. If every angler had the cash to run out and buy crates of Japanese baits, most of them probably would. The truth is, not everybody has that kind of money, and in many cases, even those who do have that kind of money are completely content to fish with (and catch fish with) bombers, normans, and other mid-priced lures.- Burn Notice
House is on of the best tv shows on now. Burn Notice is good too. Looking forward to this season. Couldn't have said it better. House is the best show on TV but I also enjoy burn notice, monk, psych, bones, and 24. BTW, hookemdown, I love your avatar, SRV is the man!- What G Loomis rod for tubes?
I'm getting ready to build a spinning rod for fishing tubes and hair jigs for smallies. My problem is I can't decide which blank to use. The rod is going to be used primarily for tubes, like I said, but I also would like something that could handle lighter texas rigs and possibly small jerkbaits as well. I was thinking about either the SL782 (light) or the SJ782 (med.). I'm leaning towards the SJ782 because I'm thinking it will be more versatile. Opinions? - SX or STX?
