  1. Wasn’t a long story at all. Local shops in my neck of the woods are practically nil. Also good to know that there are helpful and kind people like that. A little of that can go a long way. 👍😎
  2. @J Franchoor palindromes, lol! @throttleplate my middle school grammar teachers (6-8th grade 😥) drilled the living dickens out of us, even made diagram sentences for goodness sake. Gerund? Isn’t that the new boy in Mrs. James’ class? 😉 past participle? Predicate nominative? Wow, maybe English is tough 😂
  3. Excellent! I love making lures but haven’t done so in a very long time. There is no other feeling like catching them green and bronze critters on a lure you crafted.
  4. @A-Jay Is that a western haiku? 😂 The English language is rich in exceptions to the rule such that many people who learn English can be dazed and confused — but it’s natural to us. cough rough dough bough wrought ghoti 😝 @throttleplate if you genuinely wanted to know, pronoun is a word that takes place of a noun. 😇 Without the use of pronouns: Ex: Sam put on Sam’s shoes before Sam left Sam’s house. Next, Sam drove to Sam’s friend’s house before going to Sam’s studio where Sam and Sam’s friend worked on recording Sam’s latest song. The use of the pronouns, him, he, and his eliminates such awful monotony as is illustrated in the paragraph above.
  5. @rboat: maybe you should have tried using the Jedi mind trick 😂
  6. @Mobasser: Perhaps, but not always true. I want to believe what you believe and I do to a certain extent, but… and that’s a big BUT. I will remain on alert and cautious but still cooperate. I have nothing to hide. I won’t rewrite what I’ve already written about one encounter with a game warden. Let’s just say I was legit and he had nothing on me and he nearly pulled out his gun on me before I could say hello officer. When I showed him my license, he walked away ticked that he had no grounds to write me a citation. I was not disrespectful in anyway.
  7. Welcome and we need you on the team!
  8. 19 bass caught before it broke? Pray that they don’t double or triple the price of that spinnerbait, lol. If you haven’t thrown away the blades, I’d keep them and make a new spinnerbait with them. Something about those blades made fish hit it. You might have an identical spinner bait and it might produce as well. 😎
  9. I do. I also make my own. They truly are a universal lure. For bass I might use inline spinners from a size 1 blade up to 5. Mepps inlines can work too. Trout season is just around the corner for my neck of the woods too and since they’re stockers, they’ll hit just about anything, even power bait, 😎. With this said, prefer single hook vs treble 99% of the time. If the treble is of decent quality, I’ll try to keep it. If not, I wont hesitate to cut it off and use a split ring to add a siwash hook. I think the split ring makes it a little harder for them to throw off the lure. When using it for bass fishing, they’re in my “emergency” box. T-rig, crank bait, senko, spinnerbait, jig all fail? It’s time for the in-line spinner (or spoon) to step up to the plate. If it works, they I have to ask myself, “you dummy, shouldn’t you have started with the in-line spinner, lol?” Good hunting!
  10. That must have been a sight to see. Wish I could have seen it myself. Thanks for sharing!
  11. @webertime: neither do I. My campi set is veloce from the 90s 😱
  12. I got a disloyalty and loyalty with the company. SHIMANO — but not for fishing. I got into cycling in the early to mid 90s and I love Shimano’s mtn bike shifters (hate grip shift shifters). I didn’t fish at this time and didn’t even know they made fishing reels. In those days if I liked a bike but it had grip shift on them, I wouldn’t buy it. Then I added road cycling to my hobbies and I hate to say that I DO NOT LIKE Shimano’s road bike shifter systems. I strongly prefer Campagnolo shifters. Yeah, so I’m messed up, lol, but brands have to earn my loyalty but only for a specific niche or thing. And just because I’m loyal about one thing made from a company, it is NOT a shoe in that I’d blindly follow and use something from them just because they made it. I do like Shimano reels and shimano mtn bike pedals. Function over fan boy status … 1000% I also won’t stick with a rod brand for the sake of the brand. I mean, WTH? Rods aren’t golf clubs. If I’m with brand A and love their DS rod there is no guarantee than I’ll buy their jig or spinnerbait rod just because I like their DS rod. Nope. No way, no how.
  13. Prayers also sent
  14. Welcome and greetings from the other side of the country, the pacific nw! And yes, we really have bass here, lol 😂
  15. @slonezp: who would thought kiss would go tango, lol. (At least it sounds tangoesque and then sounds western later). Singer’s voice was on point. 😎
  16. @gimruis: not here either. I live where salmonids are king. Period. Some people even hate bass because they’re here but not native (they do have that point). However, they can believe that all they want. Just means more bass for me to catch. I’m a minority not by the color of my skin but by the species I prefer to target, 😂😅😂😇 and I most certainly don’t mind at all.
  17. @cyclops2: Did you mean barbless hooks or no live bait perhaps? No hooks seems a little extreme. That would leave just a net. Doesn’t sound right. 😥
  18. I put a small strip of Velcro wrapped around the butt of my DS rod. When I’m moving from one place to another on the shore, I use it to hold the DS weight so it does not dangle loosely to get tangled or caught on something. It works regardless of the length of the tag end. Simply wrap the slack around the rod butt until the weight meets the Velcro and the rest is history. Having lures dangle around banging on my rod during transport is one of my biggest peeves.
  19. @Doubles: Given what you said and how you feel about fc line, I’d like to know why you’re even considering using something you don’t even wish to use? Are you thinking it might give you an edge? Then so be it. Just bear in mind that not all fc lines are equal. Some are wirey. Some a limp. Some can be used as a main line and other only as leader material. I think some of the hate for fc comes from folks use it as a mainline not knowing it was meant for leader. With that said, I subscribe to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” philosophy for some things. One thing I’ve learned is that there is no panacea when it comes to fishing lines. Each has their pluses and minuses. The challenge and some of the fun is determine for yourself what will work best for you. I only use fc for drop shot and other finesse techniques and never ever use more that 8# test (invisx and other Seaguars mostly) I generally prefer some type of monofilament and although I love the traits braid has, I hardly ever use it because I am a shore angler. If I get snagged, it is very difficult to break off 30-50# line and the thought being forced to leave line of that strength in the water to potentially harm people or animals is enough reason for me not to use braid.
  20. I’ll choose hot over frigid cold when possible. When it’s cold enough that the water dripping on your guides during the retrieve instant freeze and crystallize right in front of your eyes, no glove or mittens will keep your fingers warm enough and simultaneously allow you to turn the handle or control the spool. If you take a break from fishing because it’s too hot and the sun is burning you, make yourself some shade and relax. No matter how hot it gets, your hands will never be numb from being cold. If you are already frozen despite having a gazillion layers on and you decide to take a break, forget that. You will start to feel even colder and more miserable.
  21. I’m not too far from you just a bit north of you close to Tacoma. The farthest south I’ve ever fish for bass is south king county. There is always that hallowed silver lake in the way to mt st Helen’s and there is this lake I always see on the way to Portland not far from Lamiglas and would like to try. Unfortunately, I am a shore angler and fishing from the shore for bass can be tough, but not impossible. Sorry I’m not much help for winter time bass fishing but I sure am hoping to try one final time before spring for some smallies in lake Union or lake Wa and before our licenses expire on 3/31 lol. we could probably continue this through the pm. lastly, welcome! @J._Bricker: thanks for the heads up. 😎
  22. I chose #1. Dead of winter, Pacific Northwest, I’m a shore angler to boot, and if I know it’s going to be zero bass that day, forget that, I’ll go golfing or go on a long bike ride (road or mountain) or make some lures. With that said, I have never been caught a bass from the shore in winter. Hence question #1 and I’m sticking to it. I almost caught a smallie one winter but it was from a boat in 25 degree weather. Despite having gloves on, my hands and fingers were so stiffly frozen that I set the hook with the rod on top of my right forearm and pulled back. The only way I could reel in line was with the palm of my hand pushing up against the handle with fingers straight out as if I were going to shake someone’s hand and moving that in a circular motion. To make things worse, I lost that bass. Blazing around the lake at 40 mph and the cold went my windbreaker as if I weren’t wearing it. Human popsicle.
  23. I remember you. Welcome back! 😎🎸
  24. @new2BC4bass: Don’t do this to me! Now I gotta look up that reel and my bait monkey was hibernating…until your post 😂😂😂. I am really going to look it up, knowing the risk involved.
