Night time fishfinder question
On my HELIX units: To adjust the backlight, press the POWER key. This will pull up the Express Menu Cursor down one time to Light. Using the right or left Cursor button, press until you have reached the desired setting. Left dims the setting and right increases the setting. Night model is also available on this menu. After pressing the POWER key and the Express Menu appears, cursor down two times to Night Mode. This setting can be turned On or Off. On is selected by the right cursor, Off is selected by the left cursor. If turned On, It automatically adjusts the setting to 6. You can turn it to off and it automatically returns the settings to 10. 6 is almost always too bright for night ops for me. Something in the 3 or 4 range works better. And if I'm not actively using it, I put the unit(s) on standby. A-Jay

Your Favourite Season
Anytime trophy Brown Bass are 'shallow & eating', I am happy. Ice out to mid-May can be lights out for numbers of plus sized smallies here. But late summer into early fall, offers chances at the same size fish, just not the same type of numbers. All my 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 lb bags of brown bass happened in the spring. (still looking for that elusive 30 lb plus bag). Spring time by-catch can be pretty memorable as well. However early season I am often fishing in what is pretty close to winter type conditions; cold, wind & waves. Late summer and early fall sees far more trips that offer fisherman friendly weather. The bass are still full blast big & chewing, they just a little more spread out. Covering water becomes important. My PB smallie came in early September. So trying to decide which is my favorite, guess it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. A-Jay

BROWN BASS TOOLS ~ Questions & Answers
A couple of summers ago, right around this time, I was making tackle preparations for what we all know as "The Fall Run". I even made a brief post about what that meant to me and how I went about it. So the more things change, the more they stay the same, right ? I've already scouted some stuff, and even though it was only one time, expectations are high. According, the past few days, I've been 'making a plan of attack'. What spots when, what will I throw, how deep will I fish, will I fall in the lake, you know all the usual stuff. Prime time is coming up quick and I wanted to be ready (which I was not). Despite it being Africa hot in my garage today, I spent the day finalizing the rigs. Vibrating jigs, A-Rigs, Spinnerbaits, Topwaters (walkers & Poppers) Tubes, swingheads, Drop Shot, Swim jigs and a token crankbait, because I'm pretty sure there's some kind of rule. Got it done. It's a big deal for me and it feels good. Early next week begins the 'hunt' in earnest. I say, bring on the mutants ! And with any luck I'll be able to introduce myself to a few. Fish Hard A-Jay

Lund 1875 Pro-V Bass ~ Useful
I started with a 23 P but it was too much. Motor couldn't spin it. Dropped to a 21 Tempest Plus and never looked back. Does what I need calm & rough water. Not sure what a IPS2 hull would do at 70 plus. But I'd need 300 hp to even find out. wait what ? A-Jay

On the cooler to colder flat mornings, that V-8 likes to eat. So 56 - 57 but it's gotta be straight down hill. Sadly I'm almost positive I can simultaneously hear that gas gage needle crashing to the "E ". Sounds like the whistle a dropping bomb makes. Some day I may lay those Talons flat on the back deck and see it we can get a new PB. "Wait up, I seen this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can pull it off. Hold my beer". A-Jay

When we master bassing at night, Broad daylight seems like cheating. Just getting to and back from the fishing area can be quite an adventure at first. A-Jay

In a perfect world, everyone would be happy. Reality doesn't work that way. People do crazy stupid stuff and expect someone else to pay for it. Seen it first hand. Unfortunately we aren't going to be able to find the solution here. So I'm done. Good luck moving forward and I hope you don't have to build your own boat. A-Jay

That's about the shortest run (distance wise) I make on the most of the full size Lake Menderchucks. There's several that are perhaps double that. Kind sucks a little when the air temps are 30 or below. I'll use wind direction, speed and ramp location to my advantage if it's an option. Many times it is not. Always want the weather on my stern coming home. When conditions permit, I prefer to operate the ProXS @5000 rpms. These motors are designed to be run. Not beat on, but run. Speed varies but it's usually in the low to mid 50's. While 30 mph saves gas it just about doubles my travel time. No thanks. WOT on my rig is 5700-ish and we venture up there on occassion too. Going again early next week and as often as I can now. Believe it or not, the leaves ,(and ferns) are already starting to turn up here. Fish Hard A-Jay

What's your opinion?
Not really a big a 'restaurant' human, especially the past several years. And at this point, if I don't make it, I don't eat it. There's a few reasons for that and at least one is not really a choice. But when I did eat someone else's offering, I was never a big fan of Taco Bell. Place was Always busy, it was very affordable, however " Make a Run For The Border" was never a phrase that inspired me to eat anything. Now "Run for the Head", that seems fairly appropriate. A-Jay

you working stiffs. do you play hookie to fish?
LOL ~ Not exactly. More like blue water trolling & bottom fishing. I'd post a few pics but the legal department mentioned the term self-incrimination. Not sure what the statue of limitations on something like that is ??? We were young. Nice bass btw A-Jay
