Working to Stay Lean ~
Yesterday was a scheduled training day but with weather coming in I could heard my lawn saying "Cut me Mickey". So I did. Back at it with the Pull 2 day. Started well but felt like I ran out of gas near the end. Sometimes it just goes that way. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

Why fluorocarbon?
And just as a PSA ~ I've mentioned this a bunch of times. If you're bargain shopping for InvisX or Tatsu, Bulk spools may be the way to go. 1000 yd spools can be had on Amazon (vs TW) for a substantial discount. InvisX averages at least $25 less and Tatsu can be $50 less. Just add it to your cart and 'watch it' - sometimes it's stupid cheap. Just say'in. Pretty sure the bait monkey would approve of this message. A-Jay

Why fluorocarbon?
This thread is blowing up with information. There is a wealth of information available on both sides of the debate. I do not have a bunch to add except to say that when I want any presentation to go and stay deep, FC is my choice. The difference between the depth maintained by mono vs FC was cemented in my mind several years ago. While on a trip south of the border, we were fishing 1 oz. shaky heads with a 10-inch worm on humps in 25–35 feet. We were fishing the same baits but I was using 20 lb mono and Big Fish Jeff was using 20 FC (InvisX). My mono would not stay deep/on the bottom. while his FC did—and oh boy did it. HE TOOK ME TO SCHOOL. Since that day, I made the switch and never looked back. A-Jay

Say "Good Night" Dick . . . . . .
Some unstable weather for today is keeping me on the bank. But there's a 3 day stretch after the fronts move through tonight that is looking pretty Good. My spidy senses are getting especially tingly as the calendar moves to the middle, thru August and into early September. I've had a few very memorable morning on Lake Menderchuck during these times: including a Personal Best Brown bass. I would not be opposed to duplicating any of this action. Prepping the rig & tackle now . . . A-Jay

ShArPnEsS - The Truth About Hooks
I did this one a few years back. However, the premise here revolves around treble hook replacement & selection. This is it. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/241684-treble-hook-replacement-~-one-man’s-theory-application/ A-Jay

06 Aug 2025 ~ Lake Menderchuck Morning Madness (video)
Thanks and I sure can. It's a silicone dog food mat. I use the 24 x 16 inch size. Does not retain anything especially odors and rinses right of in my net. It's an Amazon purchase. https://a.co/d/8jI9s0I A-Jay

I missed you guys………seriously.
Sorry to hear you've been facing so many health challenges. Sounds like you're getting through it best you can. Certainly we're all hoping the best for you moving forward. As for the PT and healing, we all get exactly ONE chance to REHAB a seriously injury correctly. After that, anything else is just damage control. No one has ever said "I went way too slow on my rehab", it's always the other way around. The bass will remember your name. Good Luck A-Jay

Coping with chronic heart ache ~
It's been a minute since I've updated this one. As always with this deal, no news is good. And we are mostly quite happy that there's no news. Lynn's health has been mostly 'stable.' Which is another way of saying that somehow Lynn's managing Lynn has managed to overcome eight incurable diseases. Her spirits remain on the right side of the line, as do mine. So that's the good. On a different note, after completing a number of interviews and online video meetings with various VA 'screeners,' unfortunately, my application for Veteran Administrations Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) (quoted above) was DENIED. For a second time. Not what we were hoping for. We knew going into this what the 'prerequisites' were and felt like we were qualified. However, in the big picture, it basically means this situation needs to be much worse before being approved. That being the case, I'd rather be denied over & over & over. A-Jay

How do you keep tack of what you use?
My rigs are tools, and I use them as such. So just like I know what a hammer is for, how to use a wrench and when to reach for a screw driver, I think of my set ups the same way. So far my CRS has not effected my fishing. A-Jay

How did you get into Bass fishing?

I'm with ya. I just felt like there may have been a small opening there. I was only below the hard deck for a short time. There was no danger. So I took the shot. Hope I didn't break a major rule of engagement. A-Jay

State VS State 2025 – Let’s bring it back.
I was going to mention this same thing yesterday. Early season is typically big fish city but some of the better green bass often show up in summer. Either way, I'll be ramping up my own efforts to improve my standing here this week. You never know . . . . . A-Jay

Secondary Conditions Importance: UV Light, Barametric Pressure, Lunar, PH, Etc.
I like these types of threads. These types of threads almost always generate engaging, insightful, and thought-provoking discussions. There's been plenty of that dropped into this one already. My version of it is that Primary and Secondary Conditions is something developed by anglers and not something that's even on a bass's radar. Conditions that promote survival and a feeding advantage for a bass are the conditions we all seem do the best in. The specifics of primary and secondary conditions can vary greatly depending on the location and the season. I've had some (more like limited) success attempting to fish in what I conditions,,o bconditions,,te' conditions where I did well. But more often than not, while it might seem the same, it's really not. And the bass are quick to let me know by pulling a disappearing act that Houdini would be proud of. So in the end, I'm not sure what determines primary or secondary conditions I question whether such a thing even exists. But 'conditions' are just about all I have to go on. So I'll keep banging my head against the wall trying to 'get it right.' Fish Hard A-Jay

Couldn't agree more ~ And I am not a rookie. Quite the opposite. The open salt water theater is an entirely different animal. If you haven't already, please consider researching a buoyant Personal Locator Beacon. It requires no subscription for use and includes a digital display providing live status and GPS coordinates. We are talking satellite precision and military durability, that puts rescue in the palm of your hands. Expecting a cell phone at sea to save your life, might not be the best plan. This is IMO, is a better option. https://www.acrartex.com/products/resqlink-view/?srsltid=AfmBOooVzSkKDLjuj0hQsaIiW8U7hhVBMZ5AGsmxi_Pg3_uCbOtqba3j Stay Safe A-Jay

ShArPnEsS - The Truth About Hooks
To be honest, I consider myself a bit of a hook snob. Meaning, I am willing to shell out whatever for what is, in my estimation, as important an aspect of my fishing success as the line I select. Therefore, I use single and treble hooks from Gamakatsu, Owner, and Mustad, which have provided me with a decent level of success. Not going to list the specific hooks, but suffice it to say, it's the higher quality lines of each. And I've listed them here before several times. While a sharp and mostly durable 'hook point' is no doubt important, For me there's a bit more to a 'good hook.' The hook's size, wire type and shape, the distance from the hook point to the barb's back end, and the size of the hook barb itself all play important roles. I understand, that not every basshead needs to or even desires this deep a dive into hook design and characteristics, and a simple fingernail scratch test takes care of it. However, I prefer going a little beyond that. Feeling confident in my terminal tackle is like a superpower. YMMV A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
I've been shaving my head since I went in the service in 79. It was just easier. Not to mention that hat head hair while doing commercial Vessel boarding's at 2 am appears, let's call it less than professional. Or stupid if you like. And then as a DI - Chrome Done was a way of life. Once I retired I just kept it going. Finally don't be fooled, I am still mostly bald on top at this point, but now I just don't .... . .... 🤪 A-Jay
