In that instance (weightless), yes, you should see a noticeable difference in several aspects (casting distance, “action,” etc), not just fall rate depending on how heavy a line you go to. A slight bump up won’t be as noticeable, but a larger jump will.

Not sure if there is a “correct” way. If so, that would suggest there is also a wrong way. That said, I always rig with the hook perpendicular to the worm, coming out the side. I don’t like it parallel, pointing at either the head or the tail. Too easy for the worm to fold over the hook point that way. Just my preference.

Kind of interesting to go back through some of the archived threads on this site pertaining to giant bass and Mike, among others, knowing what we now all have read. Would be interested in the thoughts of some of those posters now that all this has come to light.

Rather amazing. Reminds me a bit of the “Angler X” fiasco years ago, among others. A good look into the psychology of the gamer and the gamed, and makes you wonder just what else we’ve accepted over the years (catches, records, tourney wins, even forum posts/pics) where reality might not have ever been “discovered.”

Thanks. Honestly, hard to tell from the pic and not knowing the lake. Water temp seems a little cool to be thermoclining already. Any chance the lake has been treated for weeds recently? Everything seems to be in the upper level of the water column, but it could simply be a case of warmer surface waters attracting everything (without a thermocline technically). You said you saw arches down to 16', but they don't appear in that screen shot and would be deeper than a potential thermocline making a cline unlikely. The best way to definitively tell is always a temperature probe with a long cable. Getting a little hard to come by these days at an affordable price, but I carried one around for years whenever I questioned what was happening on the graph or just wanted to know the temp profile of the lake.

Happy to find that the shallow pond I thought got killed out over the winter seems to be alive and well. Managed 10 mostly decent fish before a fast moving storm pushed me off the water...but not before getting soaked Spent 10 minutes watching and observing this cruiser before I was able to figure out how to trigger it to bite. Nothing like observing bass behavior up close and personal.

MDJ, Wheeler and Avena stop by the house on their way to the next MLF tournament. Fun evening with a lot of long time friends I hadn't seen in a while. The three of them seeing who could catch the first bass from off the dock was a hoot - always a competition

Hard to pick just one shot from my vacation to Arizona - Lol. Never saw a single standing body of water, but it's some really pretty country out there. Too hot to the south for me, but we hung out in Flagstaff at an elevation of nearly 7,000 ft. all week and the weather was ideal.

We all know that information is outdated, no longer relevant, and long since disproven

Don't do it with nylon or fluoro based lines. It will compromise the line strength. Braids tend to cinch closed in that area before tightening anyway due to a lack of stiffness, but I've never been able to determine any negative effects from it.

It will depend on the leader material (nylon, copoly, fluoro), size ratio between the two (braid and leader line diameter), and how well you tied both knots on any given day (always varies no matter how hard you try). "Normally" I would expect the leader knot to break first since they tend to be somewhat weaker overall, but using two of the best knots for each connection makes it more of a tossup given the mentioned variables, IMO.

Issue 1, in regards to feeding, is about 1 body length or less. It is more for directional final adjustments, not long range/initial detection. Which takes us to Issue 2: Sight and sound can both be used to initially get a basses attention and begin searching for an item, sight being the more dominant sense. Sight allows for initial analysis and setting the proper attack angles. Once an attack commences, the lateral line stimuli are utilized for final adjustments in regards to how the bass overcomes it’s prey. Bass tend to be more “ram feeders,” using their lateral line senses to decelerate and brake immediately preceding the suction feeding we often associate with bass. However, the slower the attack, the less the lateral line comes into play. Of course, it is much more complicated than just this overall simple explanation.

1-80 cycles is the most frequently tossed around range for LMB lateral lines I’ve seen (peak 20-50), but some studies suggest their could be overlap between hearing and feeling in the 100-200 cycle range.

Don’t use scent(s) as an excuse for not catching fish...and don’t believe that while they may not help, they certainly can’t hurt. Also, don’t confuse scent/smell with taste - they are two separate processes in the feeding mechanics of bass. Finally, “cover scent” sounds cool, but I’m not sure there is anything to back that theory up. Having said all that, spray away ?
