  1. I use it on gears and frame bearings in baitcasters. I think it's a little thicker and tackier than super lube, but works better than allot of other greases I've tried over the years.
  2. This is what I use. I use superlube grease on the gears, inside the frame bearings and the clutch parts, then I grease the drag washers with shimano drag grease. I oil the spool bearings with either shimano oil or yellow rocket fuel. I also use shimano oil on the level wind. The tools I use are a couple of different screw drivers, 10mm nut driver, small needle nose pliers, old tooth brush, and an ultrasonic cleaner. Cleaner and solvents: simple green, Naphtha, and Acetone.
  3. I really didn't think I saw much of an improvement with the orange seal bearings in my Daiwa Sol, until I had run the bearings in for a year. I then re-installed the stock bearings for a comparision. After I installed the stock bearings I found that the casting distance was no where near as good as the orange seals. I was averaging 10-15 feet more with the orange seals, and was also able to turn down the magnetic braking which had better spool control compared to the stock bearings.
  4. Get some superlube grease for the gears and the clutch parts and some shimano drag grease for the drag washers. If you still have the small bottle of shimano oil that came with the reel I would use it for the spool bearings and the level wind.
  5. Most of the older models benefit from it more than the newer models.
  6. Side effects would be more subsceptible to get dirt and debri inside the bearing. I've been using Boca O.S. spool bearings without shields for over a year now with zero problems, but I do clean them alot more than shielded bearings.

The Part numbers from my invoice are: DO*070 JMG10HA Recurve handle DO*071 JMG10HA handle nut DO*094 JMG10HA handle nut retainer DO*095 JMG10HA retainer screw I do not have the part number for the Eva Knobs as they are sold separately. I would also recomend adding a Daiwa friction washer or two underneath the handle to help space the handle from the drag star although not ablsolutely necessary. The drag star will need to be modified by carefully bending the ends slightly in towards the reel. I hope this helps.
  8. The Johnny Morris gold handle does work on the sol, but the drag star has to be modified. If anyone needs the part numbers let me know.
  9. After owning both I would say that the Powell is the better rod and worth the extra cost. The sensitivity and weight is far better with the Powell than the Compre. I think that the action on the 683C is more like a Med. than a MedHev compared to the Compre.

  11. That is sweet! But at that price range I would have to go with the Steez.
  12. If it's overlubed it can cause a fair amount of back play. I would try and clean it and then lightly lube it with a oiled q-tip. Less is best with anti reverse bearings.

  14. No disrespect to Dobyns rods, but there does seem to be alot more Dobyns pro staffers posting on several of the other forums then any of the other rod companies.
  15. I use a Powell 683C and a Curado E7 for spinnerbaits.
  16. If the Curado cranks like a coffe grinder I'd hate to see what the Zillion compares to. As far as the gearing goes it's as thick as any of their other models which has been proven to be very durable. I guess for $90 more they could have added an aluminum side plate to the reel since the beefed up graphite side plate has contributed to many gear failures so far (NOT). The back play issue is such a problem that it's always costing me fish (NOT). I would have to agree the paint does suck but each to their own.
  17. Three reasons why I love the Zillion #1 It's way over priced. #2 It will only cast lures 3/8 oz. and above. #3 It weighs enough it can be used as an anchor if needed. Now if it only cured impotence.

  19. The lighter fluid does contain Naphtha but the fumes are not as strong as the regular Naphtha which makes the lighter fluid a little bit easier to use.
  20. I've tired Naphtha, paint thinner, Acetone,Brake parts cleaner and Ronsonol lighter fluid. All of them will work but I've had the best results soaking the bearings over night in lighter fluid then changing out the lighter fluid in the morning and soaking them again for another couple of hours.
  21. The 5:1 is my first choice with the 6:1 a close second.
  22. Micro, have you considered converting one of your STX's gears over to the 5:1 gear set that the Winch uses. Just a thought I know you are a huge Revo fan. If not the Chronarch is a great a reel.
  23. The Avid is a great rod for the price and St.croix's service is excellent.
