  1. It's kind of scary when spool color out weighs how the reel performs.
  2. I voted shimano because out of all the other brands I've tried over the years I always come back to shimano. I think that since the Revos and the Pfluegers are manufactured in the same Korean company I would go with the Pfluegers. For the same price as the STX the Patriarch has better looks, better braking and doesn't have Abu's out dated reel knobs.
  3. The Core is my favorite reel. I have been thinking of adding another to my collection.
  4. When I buy a new reel the first thing I do is clean and relube the spool bearings. I usally wait a least a month or longer before I tear it down and relube it.
  5. After hearing all of the hype about the performance tuned series reels I decided to buy a E600 PT baicasting reel. At first the reel was smooth as could be casted great no problems until after about a month of normal use the gears were grinding and the reel was about as smooth as a coffe grinder. I sent the reel back to quantum to be fixed they sent out a new reel within two weeks. I used the new one for about two months then I noticed the finish on the reel was peeling off. I sent it back explaining to quantum that this is the second reel I've had problems with. Two weeks later I recieved another reel in the mail this time they sent a 860 PTXM which was one higher than the the E600 I had sent in. The 860 was pretty much the same as the E600 it lasted about a year before it starte having problems.
  6. If the reel has not been serviced in the past three years I would think it is going to need to be cleaned and relubed with fresh grease and oil. If you are unfamilar with cleaning and servicing reels then I would take it or send to somebody that knows how.
  7. I like the shimano grease and oil for my baitcasters and superlube grease for my spinning reels.
  8. I was excited to see that shimano has made an aluminum version of the Core until I saw the price. I paid less than that for my core brand new. Hopefully the auction sites will place the reel in the price range that it should be.
  9. Sometimes the anti-reverse bearings come over lubed from the factory. I would try cleaning it out then take a q-tip with one or two drops of oil on it and swab it around the rollers inside of the bearing.
  10. I havn't had any problems with any of my premiers or any of my other St. Croix rods. Could be a problem with batson's guides as mentioned before. St. Croix has an excellent reputation for their customer service so I would contact them about any problems.
  11. Both companies make great rods can't go wrong with either one. Buy what feels good and what you can afford.
  12. I like the E7 for jigs, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. For crankbaits and slower presentations I like the E5.
  13. The tierra handle slides through the drive gear then a screw threads into the handle from the opposite side which is different from the certate. The certate handle threads directly onto the gear instead of through it. There is a custom machined handle from Daiwa IZE that will fit the certate. Hope this helps.
  14. When I first started using it I loved it that is until it started breaking off on me. I don't think that I've ever had a line break off more than that did. I tried to contact P-line about it but they never responded great customer service.
  15. I had one of the older Energy PT baitcasting reels when they first came out. I had to send that thing in two different times after the second time they sent me the 860 PTXM which was supposed to be an upgrade from the E600PT but it really wasn't. After all that I ended up going back to shimano.
  16. The Chronarch mg is a great reel which has a very solid reputation. I can't say the same about the Premier it seems like Abu has had some bugs to work out.
  17. I was in the process of buying an E7 but I got a really good deal on the Core MGFV so I bought it instead. Maybe I"ll buy the Curado next time around.
  18. St Croix Legend tourney 6'6" medium casting. St Coix Premier 6'6" medium spinning. Shimano Cumara 6'8" medium casting.
  19. The price is a little too much for me. Looks pretty sweet though.
  20. Micro, the guy that bought it was just asking if anyone elses looks like that or has had problems with the paint. I don't think he was trying to bad mouth Abu or the SR Revo.
  21. The new reels are on shimano's web site.
  22. Is this question because of the issues that were reported in the TT forum?
  23. They feel pretty sweet I've only had a chance to hold one not fish one yet. That may be one of my next purchases.
  24. The St. Croix premier and Avids are great choices and so is the Legend Tournament if you want to spend the extra cash.
  25. Shimano is coming out with a newer version of the symetre so the prices on the current ones should be dropping soon. I would wait.
