That's because many of the Triumphs were defective, at least initially. For many St. Croix fans, it was an embarassment. > Actually they were bad mouthed and bashed because the ST Croix fanatics thought this rod was beneath them. The Triumphs have had very few of the guide insert problems, than thier American Premier cousin s Built on the same blanks in China. If this is beneath you SSt Croix guys sell all your St Croix Products on the Flea MArket I am sure there will be people to appreciate it. ;D

Opinion based on experience is much more valuable to me than experience based on I read, or I heard.

Hey Muddy, don 't know where you are buying rods, Compres rarely cost over $99. Thats what they go for here and Cabelas. Look I just put up my suggestions I am not getting in a war with you tackle hounds.

Hey Fellas: I buy and get donations of a lot of stuff for my give away program in the spring. I use this stuff to make sure the combos are balanced and because I am a Low Budget Mook myslef, cheap is more like it I would like to share some of my experience with people looking for such gear; Reels; BAITCASTING Pflueger Trion right in at 99.99, the narrow spool low profile is my favorite. I have also bought thes , pretty regularly for around 45 used/in good mechanical condition on our flea market.Aluminum frame and they are smmoth! Drag is good and easy to set the centrifical brakes. BPS and Pflueger service them and parts are readily avaiable. Stay away from the Eschelon: way too many issues! BPS EXTREME; all models are great, easy to adjust,aluminum frames. They are 80 bucks retail and frequently BPS puts them up for 60.They are easy to clean and lube yourself, and BPS services them and I have found them on the flea market in good mechanical condition for as little as 27 bucks, normally around 40. BPS Fritts Cranking Reels; They have about the same review as the Extremes, JUST STICK WITH THE NEWER BLACK MODELS, The Gold ones are graphite framed. Cabelas Prodigy,Tourny ZX and Tourny ZXFS, these can all be had for under 100 on their site, they frequently discount them and can be had for 45 on the flea market. My problem with these reels are they really can't be serviced and parts are hard to come by. If you are capable to clean and lube them yourself, then a good buy. Cabelas for their part are very free to replace a reel you are having problems with. Okuma Alumina: Cureently on sale for 60bucks at Cabelas, the brakes are a pain to deal with.Reliable DiawaRojo also on sale ( clearance) at Cabelas, and can be had for 40 on the flea markket if you keep an eye out and are patient. ABU's The 5000's and the c 4's can be found frequently on the flea market for around 45 to 50 bucks.RellMech will clean em up and sevice parts at very reasonable prices. I got one with a broken pawl for 5 bucks, 30 bucks later Dave had it purring! SPINNING REELS Pflueger Trion and President" At 40 and 60 bucks new and many on flea market for less THESE ARE MY SINGLE FAVORITES for personal use and the giveaways and even thoguh they are graphite freames I have neve had an issue with either reel Cabelas Prestige Great house reel for 50 bucks! THE BPS EXTREME SPINNING REEL"The biggest piece of crap , many isssues STAY AWAY FROM THIS REEL. Line Twist,Line uner the rotor, and the drag sucks. ABU Cardnial Series: Very reliable and I got a lot of them this year from the fellas here, the guys we gave them to loved them MITCHELL AVOCET the gold ones; despite a lot of plastic outer parts for a weekend angler this reel is actually a good buy. Not reccomeded for every day ,hard use. RODS; BAITCASTING AND SPINNING Cabelas Fish Eagle II WOW greeat rods for 80 bucks. They do not have a lot of guides but I use them heavy and the guides are placed correctly on the rods, light and sensitive. FENWICKS; THE EAGLE GT'S AND THE HMX'S 60 AND 85 RESPECTIVELY ; My other favorites for personal use. The HMX's can be found on Amazon DEEPLY DISCOUNTED at various times These rods are very reliable, have good constuction I neber have had to return a single rod. I wish they still made the Ventura line they were inexpensive and reliable. Cabelas Pro Guides; 40 bucks, great now the they have added a 6'6" Med and Med Hvy /FAST to the line up really good rods for the price SHIMANO Clarus and Convergance GReat value and great rods at the 45 to 80 range depending on sales and freqent availability on the flea market BPS EXTREMES; alsoeadiloy found for 45 to 50 on the flea market. While not heavy these are not light rods, BPS is very liberal with replacing rods that get broken NOTE HERE: GREAT VALUE WHEN THE BPS EXTREME ROD AND REEL COMBOS GO FOR 99.99!!!!! Caution: check the rod #'s on the combos, BPS has used cheaper rods in the past while showing pics of the better rods! ST.CROIX TRIUMPHS: I found it to be cheaper and have better guide inserts than the Premiers. ALLSTAR INSTINCTSAgain not a light weight rod but an excellent 60 buck rod THESE ARE NOT THE ONLY CHOICES , this is my experience>Not meant to start any wars; This is what I use and what we Giveaway. Good Flea Market buys , keep your eyes there and Ihope this is useful to someone

Every once in a while AMAZON puts the TECHNA AV's and HMX's up deeply discounted. I got a 6'6" Med/Fast HMX Trigger for 38 bucks delivered NEW< AND UN DAMAGED! 8-)

Looks like both She Mano and Flooger are responding to the Revos,ABU is the leader in this current design and low profile.
