Yeah, it was released safely. And that is a boat. It's been there for sometime. This guy had a thing with trying to get behind it and break off but I managed to keep him turned.
  2. Yeah, a 7lb pea is an excellent catch! Hard and soft Jerk baits are my go to's for peas along with top water walk the dog and popper baits worked fast and erratic. Look for any kind of ambush spot like storm drain, submerged docks or trees and similar. During warm days, they can get very active. Not sure of any spots local to you as I'm also in Miami Dade. Good luck.

I know, right! Hey, I might luck out and have one of those monsters in this lake as well, lol.
  4. I'm looking into getting my daughter a real spin cast set up so she can get away from the Disney Princess deal she has now. I figure it would be much easier to learn to cast on a real rod/reel than the one she has now. I'm looking at this rod http://m.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-3-Graphite-Series-Trigger-Rod/product/10201842/?utm_referrer=direct%2Fnot%20provided

Now that I know what they are, they should be on everyone's bucket list! Right along side the peacocks which are from the same waters in the Amazon.

No scale but measured against the rod it was 33-36 inches.

Yup. https://www.google.com/search?q=silver+arowana&client=ms-android-samsung&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=g3peVKDVOYugyQTvOg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=360&bih=567 It had to have been a pet that was released. Curious how long it's been in this lake. This one was full grown according to Wikipedia. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_arowana The fight this fish put up was fantastic and he did jump a few times before I got him close enough to see what it was. Definitely surprising.
  8. Thanks guys! I'll try the bandage tape and go from there.

    Another pic.

The scales on mine are large too. I've seen him before hanging around this storm drain and figured it was a carp? Until now.

That was my first thought by the tail fin doesn't match? https://www.google.com/search?q=bowfin&client=ms-android-hms-tmobile-us&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Q1BeVM-JMJS0yATP54K4BA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=360&bih=567
  12. Noticed my curado 51 felt loose in my Fenwick smallmouth rod while fighting my largest fish to date today. It almost felt like it was going to come out which definitely would of sucked but it stayed put. No issues while casting. Has anyone noticed this with their Fenwick rods?
  13. Caught this guy at the end of a long cast with a spook Jr that is now missing paint. Measured around 33-36 inches and is the biggest fish I've caught. Can anyone tell me what it is? He smashed my spook just in front of the stick up right in front of the shoreline, then an epic battle began. In case anyone was wondering, caught him on a brand new Fenwick smallmouth 6'10 m/f, curado 51 with 40lb power pro and 10lb cxx leader.
  14. Very nice catches! Those peas are gorgeous. As long as I've lived down here, I've never caught a snook, lol. I need to look into them and scratch them off my list.
  15. I also use yellow braid with a leader. No issues catching fish. I have not tried straight hi viz line though. With mono or copoly, I like a Moss green color even when line watching.
  16. 3/16 is very light for a casting rod. I usually break out my UL rig for anything lighter.
  17. Apparently, at least from what I've read, their mediums are on the light side so they may work for you. I'll be pairing in with a 51e for tossing lighter baits.
  18. Psh. I do all my fishing with two! But I only fish a handful of techniques I'm very confident in. RW's suggestions in that link are spot on though.
  19. Awesome, thanks for the report! That smallmouth is another rod I was looking at in the 2 piece flavor but decided I would look into higher end offerings. How did it handle those baits?
  20. Err, i should have added that the *** i was after was the ML casting. I checked the auctions and they were either spinning, medium or heavier.
  21. The *** is back ordered and won't be back around for another month or two so I'm looking at the recons now. How accurate are their lower weight ratings? The 683 is rated down to 1/8oz. I plan on using the rod for trigged roboworms, fluke Jr's, shakey heads and similar sized baits. Would I be better suited with the 682? Maybe even the 712 or 713? Are they worth the extra over the omens? This would be my most expensive rod purchase and will be with me for a long time. My other concern was if my stock curado 51 would be able to handle such light baits. Maybe with a super tune?
  22. I had an older eagle gt casting rod and felt it was OK for its $50 price. Personally, I would save my change and look into rods at the $75-100 range as the are a LOT more quality options.
  23. A lot of bps rods come in 2 piece. Fenwick has 2 piece rods as well. Every Fenwick I've fished seemed to be a great rod for its price. Daiwa also has a new travel series out called the ardito that's looks nice.
  24. I'm with rippin on this one. All of these elaborate math equations and quantum physics formulas are way over my head. I just like fishing.
