  1. I'll be fishing in saltwater, San Diego Bay this weekend and I'm brining my 13Fishing TX casting reel. After use, what should I do so I do not get corrosion on my reel? Can I use any of my casting rods and give it a good wipe down with freshwater after?
  2. River2Sea Whopper Plopper 75, summer 4 years ago.
  3. I'm not that well versed with gram weights. Not sure if 5gm is considered ultralight or light lure weight. Also 15gm is similar to 1/2oz?
  4. I'm talking about Kastmasters, Little Cleos, Krocodile and such. I add a swivel according to weight and size of the casting spoon attached to the split ring. I don't know if using a swivel hinders the correct action of the spoon or not. Why I say that, I have caught bass on a casting spoon using a swivel. I use mostly baitcast setups and I've not experienced any line twist while having a swivel connected to the spoon.
  5. Just wondering what ya'll using for your line for your BFS baitcast reel(s). I have the Curado BFS reel with 15/4 yellow Power Pro. And also have A Kastking Zephyr, Abu Garcia Revo X with aftermarket BFS spool and a Daiwa Tatula CT with aftermarket spool; all spooled with 10/2 yellow Power Pro line. I tried 4 lb P-Line CXX at first but did not like how it handled on the KK Zephyr. All my reels are straight braid, and I color so many feet of the yellow braid with a black Sharpie.
  6. I've noticed that its magnetic braking from Shimano, Daiwa and Abu Garcia; even Kasking is using magnetic than centrifugal. Why is that?
  7. I have one also, but in 51. Wish I could find a shallow spool for it... What pound test are you using? I have 30/8 lb Power Pro. I'm thinking of putting 20/6 lb Power Pro
  8. Just curious if you use both magnetic and centrifugal brakes, or use just one or the other braking system. I use both, been tempted to just use either the magnetic or centrifugal. Since most Shimanos used centrifugal and Daiwas use magnetic, those dual braking reels should work with just one of the brake settings?
  9. What are spooling your Curado BFS or whatever BFS reel you have with braided line? I have 15/4 Power Pro. Should I drop to 10/2 or 8/1 PP?
  10. Is the USDM Sol baitcast reel, which frame is it similar to from back then; Japanese version. The Pixy or Alpha? I'm looking to get a shallow spool for my Sol to make it a BFS reel. I may have to get one from overseas, if I know which model and spool is needed.
  11. Big hands, that was cool!
  12. Daiwa Coastal SV TW and Phenix M1 Vortex, 7'2"H. Spooled with 50lb spiderwire blue camo. This will be an all around setup. The Coastal SV casts far and hardly backlashes. The Phenix rod is very light and sensitive. Now I have the Phenix M1 Vortex and a Shimano Zodias casting rods.
  13. Hmm, maybe it's best just to stick with my 300E and pass on the 300K
  14. I'm looking to buying one but not sure if I should get the 6.6:1(35 IPT) or the 4.7:1 (25 IPT) for all around swimbait reel. I have the 300E it has 28 IPT and the gear ratio is good. Just not sure about this newer 300, seems one gear is too fast and the other is too low. I've picked up a 300K and like the palming better than on the 300E, so reason I am looking at this reel for swimbaits.
  15. WootWoo! 2022 new bathroom reading material! Been looking at BPS website since November, and now their catalog shows up! My wife's not gonna be able to get me out of the bathroom now...maybe its a good time to build that outhouse I've been promising her?????????
  16. I understand both are but if you have to choose which one is important. What is more important to you or gives you more pleasure buying and owning?
  17. Here's a pic of that bass I caught. Used a 1/4 Kastmaster spoon. Needed a heavier spoon for that day to cast past the weeds close to shore. 1st bass I've caught using a Kastmaster spoon too!
  18. Ya, I liked the Phenix Feather Light that I also got the Feather in heavy. 7'1", 1/4-2oz. Love how light these rods are. Before I got the Phenix Feather Light, I first bought the Shimano Sensilte casting rod in 7' Light. This was much cheaper at $50 new. Works good, quite light. I now have it for my Kastking Zephyr BFS reel.
  19. Hi, I have spooled 15lb, 4lb diameter Power Pro in yellow. I was looking at the Dobyns rod you mentioned and it was just not what I was looking for. Too whippy for a long casting rod. I ended up getting the Phenix Feather 7'1" Light. Check the specs on this rod, it fits my style of BFS fishing. I also have the Shimano Curado BFS reel paired with said Phenix rod and caught a 4lb bass a couple weeks ago.
  20. Just James, yes please. My Calcutta 51 has spool bearings on the shaft.
  21. I'd like to get an Avail shallow spool for my Calcutta 51 and need to know if the Conquest (JDM) is the same reel so same spool. Can anyone confirm this?

Same concept but I think Gary Yamamoto came up with similar rig with the Fat Ika, hooked backwards. The Ika will cast far when rigged from the skirt and pointed end through close to the nose end. It has a slightly slower glide on slack line and the skirt flares out when dragged or popped. I've caught many a bass with the Fat Ika.
