Lead Jig/weight Making Help
Like smalljaw mentioned, that is not an opaque brown it is a candy brown with green glitter (copperhead). If you want it lighter don't heat the jig as hot and swish it through the powder paint faster. By doing this you will get less powder to stick to the hot jig making it lighter. You will also get less green glitter. This will take some practice, but it can be done very easily.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Sorry I was supposed to post yesterday after I got back. Anyway, water temp was 43 degrees when we got there at 10:30 A.M. at 12:00 noon it was 46 degrees. 1/3 of the lake was covered with ice, had to watch to make sure we didn't get blocked in, as the ice was moving on the lake with the wind. Very weird feeling fishing like this. Anyway we were out for 4 hours. Nothing at all not one fish. Did spook a couple of carp in the shallows and saw a couple of them roll on the water surface. That's it.

Recessed Trolling Motor Foot Pedal
If any of you guys have one of these and would be willing to give me a few dimensions, I would gladly post drawings on how to make this or have someone make this for you. Two options to make this would be either be steel with black powder paint or stainless steel brushed finish. I am a sheetmetal designer, so posting fab drawings is no bigee. *********Mods would you have a problem with me posting fabrication drawing for someone to make these themselves? If so I won't post drawings on here.******

Screen Names
The name cadman started out two ways. For a long time I have designed sheetmetal parts. Then cad came around instead of drawing on the board. So I started with AutoCad, then switched jobs and used CadKey, which at that time I also used a cad package called Profold. After that, I used a package called Metalsoft and now Solidworks. So I have used a lot of cad packages throughout the years. Part 2 came from as I used cad for my daily job, I got into designing some molds using cad for pouring lead jigs. These were then created into bass jigs which to this day I make and sell as cad designed custom jigs, which I had to shorten because of too many words. Hence the name cadman, from work and fishing.

Using Wheel Weights
Yes, you cannot mix lead and zinc weights. Read this thread post #3 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/132763-cleaning-out-my-melting-pot/

Using Wheel Weights
If you are new at this, I would save these for a later date and buy some pure soft lead. reason being, soft lead fills cavities easier and is less problematic. Once you gain experience with pouring, yes you can use the lead wheel weights, and yes it is very hard lead.

Where's Your Old Lady???
My wife fishes with me all the time even in tourneys. Unfortunately she got her PB ( a 6.2 largemouth) fishing with another guy at a tourney in which we fished. It's hard to keep her from fishing with me. She'll get up at 2:00 A. M. with no complaints and is ready to go. If I fish with someone else, she gives me this sad face when she sees me off in the morning. I like to fish with other guys so I can learn from them. I wouldn't trade her for any other fishing partner. No drama, no BS she just fishes and tries her best. That's all I can ask for.

Fishing Seat Vs Butt Seat
- Attn Great Lakes And Lake St Clair Fisherman
x2 what Pa Angler said. I have a Ranger 619VS multispecies and I love my boat. It is not a bass boat and it tops out at about 50-55 mph. But I bought it for what I needed and it makes a great big water boat. If you look around, you can find a good used one. You will love this boat as it has a lot of storage, a big livewell, baitwell, cooler and a add on deck in the back if you want to bass fish. If you would like more info or a pic let me know- Fishing Seat Vs Butt Seat
I have something similar to what Pa Angler posted a link to and it works for me. I have to rest my back at some point in time as it gets tired. Also what has helped me when I stand is the absence of a trolling motor pedal which I used to keep my foot on all the time all day long. With the remote Terrova, both feet are on the deck and it keeps both of my hips straight. Seemed to help tremendously. Just some more info for you to ponder over.- Trimming/snipping Weed Guards
Use pointed gate shears. They are about $8 and will cut all strands or each individual strand, one at a time. They cut fast and clean.- Trimming/snipping Weed Guards
Pointed gate shears will do the job the fastest. To avoid this why not pour the jigs with the correct number of strands, and avoid the hassle of cutting strands? Just curious why you do all of this work.- Cleaning Out My Melting Pot
On flux, I used to use beeswax, but since my wife is a big Yankee Candle fan, I take all the stuff that doesn't burn off the bottom and use that to flux my lead. So it seems like any candle wax works fine. The only benefit I get from using Yankee Candles, is that my work area smells really nice when I melt a chunk of wax. Other than that all candles work.- Cleaning Out My Melting Pot
First of all what number do you keep your pot at when you are pouring? To clean your pot this is what I do: #1 Heat pot until lead is melted. Remove all lead. #2 Remove plunger ass'y. #3 While the pot cools, put on some cotton gloves, and then take some steel wool and clean the entire inside tub. If pot is too hot wait a bit. Dump out all debris from tub. Clean until tub has no lead along sides and bottom. #4 Take some steel wool on a screwdriver and gently clean the spout area, along with the spout pouring hole. Do not force anything, as the spout is made out of brass, and you will damage it. #5 Once all clean put in clean lead fill to about 1/2" below top. Flux your lead thoroughly and remove floating debris. #6 You're good to go. To keep from having problems with your pot clogging, Melt all of your lead in a separate pot. Flux thoroughly and pour in a mini-muffin pan. This will make it easy to put it in your Lee IV pot when you need.- Jig Color Question
I use red/black jigs especially in Spri9ng and Fall- Jig Tying
If you want a chartreuse belly use chartreuse as the bottom tab, and tie it that way.- 90 Or 115?
Definitely get the 115 now and everything else later. You won't regret it. - Attn Great Lakes And Lake St Clair Fisherman
