It is probably a Mustad 32886. It could also be a custom run Gami that is available. On second thought that is not a standard Do-It Poison Tail jig. Someone had the mold cut, modified and extended the barb on the collar. Do-It does not make their collars like that on the Poison Tail. Do-it's is a double disc collar.
  2. I had a feeling it wouldn't do anything. I honestly don't have any solutions for you other than get white feathers and tie new ones on. Good Luck.
  3. Nathan, I have my remote on my belt loop. Doesn't hamper fishing and no problem. Easy to use and once you get used to it you will rarely if ever use a pedal. I would not do without my Terrova and I-pilot.
  4. You will love Your Terrova. I have had my Terrova since 2007 and put on the I-pilot 2 years ago. I love both my Terrova and my I-pilot. No more standing on the foot pedal. I only use my foot pedal when it is really windy outside, like 20-30 mph winds.
  5. I just thought of this, but maybe try bleach. Maybe that would work I don't know?????? It might make it much lighter in color.
  6. I, tried dying years ago, and if I recall you cannot go from black to white, but you can go the other way. I believe that everyone starts with white and then they dye to the color they want. Not 100% sure though.
  7. Whether they should be thicker or thinner is your call. I like thinner hooks, but that is my preference and fishing style.
  8. Kinpin, I see you've looked at, and understand all your options. As far as what hook is better, that is your personal choice. If you are set on the Gammi Superline EWG and money is not a factor, go with it and see how it works for you. I would be the last person to dissuade someone on what to fish with. You and I both know that confidence is a big factor in fishing. If you ended up using a different hook, you will always in the back of your mind think "What If". With that said try the Gami Superline and post your results.
  9. Kingpin, I do have a limited number of Gami 28/30 degree hooks that are Gamis 4/0 - 5/0 hook. These are round bend hooks. The reason I call them 4/0 - 5/0 is because they are a size between a standard 4/0 and a 5/0 ( like a 4.5/0). Gami always had there own sizes and it never seemed to match normal standards (for jig molds that is). That is why you rarely see a lot of jig molds that use Gami's, unless they have been modified. Owner the same thing, very few hook options if any for a 28/30 degree hook. Anyway the Gamis I have are a heavy hook. Like smalljaw67 stated, a 32886 hook will fit that mold and it is a darn good hook. Just because it's a round bend, don't discard that hook. On the flip side I have talked to many guys that hate an EWG hook on the poison tail, because of missed hook ups. This is due to how you set your hook. Setting hooks on a round bend and an EWG is different especially on a poison tail jig. Smalljaw and I have hashed this idea around for quite some time, and found a sweeping hookset works better for an EWG hook. However to each his own. Anyway if you are interested PM me.

I personally like true blue. I use that on my jigs. Now I wouldn't say I get aggressive strikes with it , however I have used it during the spawn and it does catch fish, also the nice thing about it, is you can see the jig really well in clear water. The blue does pop. Another good color around here in my area is white.
  11. SMB, You fish the same waters I do. We should talk some more off line. I fish Delavan, Geneva, Brown, Beulah, Tichigan and most of all the S.E Wisconsin lakes. I fish a few local tourneys as well. I am a die hard jig fisherman and those are killers on the lakes you mentioned. Also I use Paca chunks as trailers............. PM sent

I will say that I have in the early days poured weedguards in place, and from the heat of lead onto the weedguard material it fused that weedguard in, which to me is stronger. However, I glue mine in like Jig Man and have never had one come out. Also you get a better paint job when you glue in your weedguard last and it's easier to put the skirt on first, especially when you hand tie your skirt whether wire or thread.
  13. My choice would be tab of yellow (not yellow chartreuse), tab of black, 6 strands of orange and 5 strands of watermelon. This would make up a 55 strand skirt. I get most of all of my skirts from fishingskirts.com If you think there is too much black in there take some out and add more yellow to balance it off.
  14. Hey Thanks for the reply. I'm just the next state over from you. Another couple of months and we'll have open water again
  15. Hey Guys, thanks for all the replies. I want to try this technique out this summer.
  16. What type of plastics do you guys use for this system? Is the hook point exposed, texposed or skinned?
  17. Yes the paint does build up on them. I use the Teflon pins once, then when I take them out of all the painted jigs, I just bend them a little and the paint cracks off. This is the easiest way to paint jigs. Also you can use the Teflon pins to pour. If you are not using them to pour you are doing yourself a disservice. They are so much better than the metal pins. No more fighting with the pins and stabbing yourself.
  18. I got the same color from fishingskirts.com and yes it is $2/10 tabs like 00 mod stated. Unfortunately you will have to pay shipping as well.

    Yes it can be re-melted.
  20. Hey Smalljaw67, Great write up and thanks for all the good info.
  21. I have not seen them in my hands or on a jig yet, but I'm going to say it's cosmetic. They do look nice, and maybe several strands would change the looks of a regular silicone skirt..
  22. BassAssassins14 Not to be a P.I.T.A, and reiterate safety again, but I had my 17 year old nephew help me last summer for a couple of days. In working with him he wanted everything done right away and my biggest concern was that he was in too much of a hurry. It made me nervous watching him pour, as he didn't seem to have a care in the world. I'm not saying that you are like that and you won't be careful. But since there will be no one there to mentor and teach you I'm just a little concerned. Also if and when you pour, put up a small sign next to your workstation, letting everyone know that the pot is on and it is hot. Leave this sign on before, during and after you are done pouring to make sure the pot cools down enough. You don't want anyone grabbing a hot pot when you are not there, or if you step away for a minute. Accidents can happen to anyone. I have been burned by lead, nothing serious, however we are all repeating this just so you understand that lead is really hot and you don't want to get burned. Enough said. I don't want to sound like your dad. LOL
  23. There is too much info to post on this subject. Go to tackleunderground and read all the safety precautions on pouring lead in the wire bait section. My biggest concern for you depending how old you are is getting burned versus lead poisoning. Here are some pointers: #1. Don't smoke, eat or drink when you are pouring lead #2. Pour in a well ventilated area. #3 Do not pour in the house, preferably in the garage #4 Make sure you wear, eye protection, face shield, long sleeve shirt, long pants, shoes and socks, even in summer time #5 Pay attention to what you are doing and make sure you have no distraction when you are pouring ( ie kids and pets running around) #6 When you are done pouring, wash your hands several times in cold water. Above all lead is very hot, don't get burned, because if you do it is serious. Your dad has every right to be concerned for your safety, if that is you in your avatar, you seem like a young guy, stay safe and take every precaution, so your dad can see that you are responsible. We were all young once and wanted to do things. I am not concerned for you about lead poisoning as much as getting burned, as younger people have a tendency to want to hurry and get things finished so they can do other things. Take your time and think things through thoroughly. Plan everything you are going to do, so you don't make any serious mistakes. If you have any questions ask first to get all the facts before you attempt this. If you want you can PM me or I can call you to help you with any questions. There are many other things that will come along the way but I stress safety as #1.
  24. x2 Pouring lead is serious business. This is the best advice I would give as well. Also make sure you don't have any distractions like, pets or little children running around. Stayed focused on what you are doing, and set aside time to do it. Do not rush to get things done. This is where accidents happen. The rest is all experience. Mainly stay safe and think of everything you do before you do it.
