  1. Ok, I was not going to respond to this thread till I saw where you are. I moved out of Alec in April 2014. So, I am familiar with that place, man I miss it! Great people down there, and BEAUTIFUL women!!! Go eat some Outlaws for me. It looks like the MG, Tounry has two more bearings, heavier, but has an external lube port. Both seem to have only mag braking and same style drag. I just bought my first Lew's in Sept and LOVE it! I would weight which options are most important to you and purchase accordingly. Man, I miss Black Lake!! Great place to fish. Check Academy down there off the circle, they will run deals. Good luck! Wdy
  2. Check Suffolk, find the lonestar lakes there. You should be able to fish from the shore there. I used to live up in Newport News and familiar with that Suffolk area. Great lakes there, Cahoon, Prince, another was reopened about 5 years ago, when I left Newport News. Senkos, watermelon candy, or watermelon magic Look up Bass Jons, a website for the Southeast part of the state. Maybe you can make friends through there and get out on one of those lakes. Wdy
  3. I got a Natulius FWX 3/4 fly reel My buddy got me WF4F line and I still have a $250 gift card to TW. I was very blessed!
  4. Sam, a bait monkey ambassador!
  5. Nice one A-Jay! Especially on a fly!
  6. yes, just something about it that seperates it over traditional fishing methods. You get more of a fight from a fish, sometimes it will just dominate the fish and others it will not as mentioned above. I am getting back into fly fishing and missed it so much, you will enjoy fly fishing.
  7. Thanks Mike! I hope you have a great Christmas and party hard on New Year's Eve, and to everyone on the forums here as well! Some great advice, and some of the jokes and funny comments have me Howling!!
  8. Mmm. I am just starting to pick up my fly rod again, and I am trying to move to PA to live and work, once my surgeries are over. With fish like that, I AM LOOKING you up when do! Great catch!!
  9. Yeah, I lived in Louisiana for two years and LOVED it! But, all my tackle I brought from VA did not work there! So, I did not catch much, or of any size. (I lived in Alexandria, LA, center of the state.) Different style of fishing in LA compared to VA. I mainly fished Black Lake in LA, great place, fished Toledo Bend once, for 30 minutes, Bass_Fanatic and I were out on the main part with 20 mph winds creating white caps. But, Fanatic has MURDERED them out on Toledo Bend, I am so privileged to see all his 7+lb. catches on his Facebook page!!! So, more fish caught in VA, but LA has A LOT more potential then any other state I have fished in, just so many fish period.
  10. ^ I thought you might get the PX-R
  11. Also, "You can leave your Hat on!" Great song!!
  12. yeah, not liking this headline! I respected his music a lot, it is a sad day for his fans.
  13. hey everyone, I am thinking about picking up one of these reels and looking for some comparisons, notes, feelings from people that own, or have used these reels. The application will be shakey heads, weightless 4" senkos, finesse fishing of courseetc. Some river smallmouth fishing will be seen by these reels, but mostly bass fishing and tournaments. The rod it will go on is a Powell Endurance 6103. I have researched both of these reels extensively and know all the numbers, IPT, weight, etc, but that does not give me an opinion from use. Thanks for the time helping me out, Wdy
  14. I demoed one through TW and loved it. I would get the reel deep cleaned and oiled up before using to get a baseline on the reel and understand the shape it is in. Be cautious with the casting at first till you get confidence it in. Great reel, just have to learn them.
  15. 14lb. fluro at least on all my casting reels, except my cranking reel, 14lb. mono. I am not going to get hung up, or broken off
  16. Ugh, I should have turned off the notifications from this thread. Thanks guys, I feel poorness coming on..
  17. I demoed a Quantum 100 EXO and LOVED it! It took about an hour to get used to it and dialed in, but after that, moon shot casts. Incredibly smooth, powerful, quiet. I do not own one, $250 is a little steep for me because I do not get to fish as much as I want, but that is a super reel!
  18. yeah, I was thinking maybe smallmouth fishing, but again I kind of already have that setup. What is the IPT for the 6.8 gear ratio?
  19. So, what is the application for these reels, finesse, shakey head?
  20. I saw that, but I just don't see a need for the reel in my aresnal. Maybe, I am wrong, but seems like a lot of money for a reel, that I could get spinning gear to do. I got married a couple of months ago and my groomsmen got me a $250 gift card to TW so, I am tempted, but just can't see it. I'll probably just stock up on lures so I can be set for the rest of my life, hahah
  21. ^^^^ That guy is one fishing machine to! I'm stealing that magnum shakey head idea Josh!!!
  22. Well to me that is a loaded question about the balance. Meaning, without a reel on it, the balance seems not where it should be. More toward the tip of the rod then I thought. But, with a reel on it, the balance seems great. I know you're thinking "No kidding Wdy!," but to me the balance on the Endurances just seem to be more a function of the reel. For instance, I was using a Curado 50E (what, 7 oz.???) on my 723 when I first got it, great combo, a weightless senko machine!!! Now, I am using a Lew's Tournament Team Lite reel on it, 5.8 oz. To me, the 723 liked the 50E better, Endurances, are not the lightest rods out there, they are light though, but the balance with reel, hook setting power, and increased sensitivity are worth the sacrifice. For you application you sound like you are right on the money. I use my 723 for everything, small squares, spinnerbaits, etc. but to me, the tip it a little too stiff for liking for moving baits. (I catch bass that way, but say for small squares, it is usually on the last treble hook, yeah, I know there are a lot of other variables there.) But, for senkos again, you're are just going to feel that "THUMP!!!" clear as day!!! It's really such a wonderful feeling! You just feel a "weight," drop on your line and that's it, no doubt about it! Let me know if you want a pick of the balance point on a 723, I'm recovering from surgery, but getting better and should be able to got one. Wdy PS, got this smallie on my 723/50E
  23. Yeah, you should love the 723. I have one, granted never fished with a Tat rod, but the hook setting power on the Powell Endurances is almost unfair. Great all around round, I think it shines with 5 in.. weightless senkos. Enjoy and let us know how you like it!
  24. Hey everyone, Thank you very much for all the blessings and well wishes. As Sam said, surgery went well. My mitral valve needed to be repaired, again. I got home Monday afternoon late, I am so blessed to have my wife by my side through all of this. I am looking at one more surgery in a couple of months to fix an aneurysm in my abdominal area. But, I have been kept around for some reason. Hopefully, that 10lber. is coming my way soon! This is why I love this sight so much, some of you I know, some of traded emails/messages with, but most I have not, still taking the time to drop a well wish to me enforces the bound I see we all have respect for our fellow anglers, Thanks again, Wdy
  25. I found this review yesterday online. http://www.***.com/lews-tournament-lite-speed-spool-casting-reel-review/
