  1. I have always like Shaw and his program...his intensity and love of the sport is a breath of fresh air! I found this quote in his book from Gary Klein..... "Shaw and I drew each other in an invitational tournament on Lake Eufaula. When he said he knew where the fish were, I said "Lets go" In a few hours both of us had four fish. I lost one fish because I was using 10 lb. test. Shaw was using 15 lb. test and bringing them to the boat, even through heavy obstacles. Earlier Shaw had seen a five-pounder in a ditch. We went after her. It turned out there was an eight-pounder in the ditch also, I made the first cast and missed the eight pounder. Then Shaw made a cast and caught the five pounder-and had his limit of keepers. He held the branch of a tree and positioned the boat so I could get a good cast, then he handed me his rod with the 15-pound test on it. I've been fishing 24 years (at time of print) and no other angler has ever done that for me. He gave me his fishing rod knowing I was about to catch an eight pounder. He is a great individual." Definately a class act!! ;D
  2. Welcome!!! Banks Lake is my favorite....with Potholes!!!

  4. Its time for Charlie to make a move and fish a tour......he has made enough money off this venture to support a tour run so now its time to validate his fishing..... SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT CHARLIE!! 8-)
  5. I've been with American Medical Response Ambulance as an EMT for 15+ years and still love it...12 hour shifts with 3/4 day weekends Off!!
  6. Yes..on mine...Bassinsoldier will be suffering....er....rooming along.
  7. Washington State.... Cold Rain in the Winter... Warm Rain in the Spring... Warmer Rain in the Summer.... Cooling Rain in the Fall.... Good thing about Rain.....Lotsa water for our fish!!...(And to sell to California!! ) Same corrupt government... Same high fuel tax... Over-managed, underfunded Warm Water Fisheries Policy!!! > But we can...when the clouds allow....get a fantastic view of majestic volcanoes as we fish for Greens and Browns!! ;D
  8. After watching the Classic coverage and how the spectator boats were such a concern....THAT I think will be the inherent problem with the removal of Co-Anglers........they will become Spectators. The main drive behind the Co-angler program was for a chance to learn from the pros....now all the local guys who lost this opportunity will just trailer in their boats and follow the guys around....I plan on doing it this year with the FLW on the Columbia River, unless I get off my duff and sign up as a Co.!!! My sincere hope is that this idea will not spread and/or mutate into a vengeful series of confrontations as seen in the last few years between the anglers/homeowners/homelake anglers where housing associations and large resorts get ammunition for legislation to restrict access. In a nutshell..... Chill Out and enjoy the show!! ;D ;D
  9. Seen as a built in safety valve to promote safe handling of the resource....most trouble seems to be when deep patterns prevail or during the hot months. Alot of our opens are one day events except on the east side of the mountains.
  10. In Washington State we require these things... Insurance for all boats: 100,000 for 50 mph or less 100,000-500,000 for 50 mph or above Aerated Livewell Operational Killswitch Up to date Rescue Flares Air-electric horn/whistle PFDs while the motor is in gear Throw cushion For all tournament boats must have a Tournament banner on the motor cowling Tournament must have a permit from the W.D.F.W. Also if it is a two day event, Live fish counts are kept and if day one has a 10% mortality the event is cancelled for day two. The T.D. must then send a form into W.D.F.W. showing catch totals and man-hours to the dept. within 30 days of conclusion. Whew!!!!!!
  11. Over here we call it "The Snakebite Club" Because when you cut the hook and push it through you create a second hole making it look like a snake bite! Got to join the club in 2005 on the Columbia River. Almost passed out pushing the hook through my ring finger!
  12. Awesome footage guys!!! rare to see in this day/age of competitiveness the genuine "This is what I did" answering of questions although...some of which were heavily laden with sponsor ads!!
  13. Gotta go with Wolak... with his Spinning Gear Pattern he is doing something no one else is doing and this might help him handle the "Pressured Fish" problem that is hampering others.
  14. I think these two...out of 51 people are the most talked about in this whole event........as it stands....in the eyes of ESPN and its major sponsors has turned into the equivalent of a Super Bowl involving the Detroit Lions and the Cincinnnatti Bengals!! (no offense intended!) Now the question is....Who will save this Classic?
  15. Just found this thread....I quess I will be the only one saying.... Byron Velvick will finally show something....he has been really focused on his fishing the last year...and he makes Martens squirm!!! 1). Velvick 2). Hackney 3). Horton...(ProCraft Guy!!!)
  16. Love seeing folks not freezing to death on the water!!!! Cant wait till Friday!!!
  17. Thanks for pickin me up on Mon Cart7t....I also want to offer up that I have a double room so have space for someone there....PM me.
  18. The man is gettin old....I know...he has'nt changed in 40 years but he is an Icon, and I would have gotten a photo of us together and placed it with the rod....just me though....I had a bowl of Stagg Chili with him and had him autograph a can of chili...a hat....and have lost track of both.... WHO ELSE HAS AN AUTOGRAPHED CAN OF CHILI BY JIMMY HOUSTON?
  19. Our fish, in the heat of summer, will suspend and wait for cooler water temps....and or better oxygenation....not knowing the water temps....i would try two rigs... 1). a weighted, wacky rigged senko.....5 incher. chuck it where you might see suspended fish or at points near deep water dropoffs....even as deep as 30ft! the slow decent will give them the confidence to follow it and since you are away from the shoreline the little fish will leave it alone. 2). A lightweight Carolina rig.....light weight as in with a spinning rod, 8lb line using a 3/8 oz egg sinker and 2-3 ft of leader...a small 4-1/2" Green-Pumpkin Zoom lizard is my favorite up here in Washington....just drag it or cast-retrieve it either up-slope or down depending on what works. If it is an oxygenation issue, you can try beating up the shoreline by making repeated runs up and down the desired shoreline to churn things up and wait for a reaction from the food chain....this seems to work on smaller or compacted bodies of water. Hope it helps!
  20. Well, Glenn and Keri have been working on me and I finally got going to get signed up so here I am!! ;D Names Larry and I live in Covington Washington and own a 2003 Procraft Pro-190 with a Merc. 150EFI . Look forward to posting and I am trying to get things moving towards going out to Kentucky Lake as it is a definate Bass Destination!!! Will be checking things out for awahile and look forward to reading up on stuff! Larry.
  21. You will find some of the fisheries...Banks Lake, Moses Lake....Long Lake in Spokane will frequently have large areas where water will rise to the 80s...Saw 90s in Long Lake when they quit pushing water through the system. Great when it gets that way for those certain areas have flotsum/weed rafts that will amass in coves and get stuck in chutes and will concentrate fish....Great Flippin stuff!!
  22. Also forgot Firetiger Spinnerbait if the White one does not work. I like the Red River and Strike King brands.
  23. Hey Loon....One thing I've found about Moses is it is very fickle with cold fronts.....one day you can have a great pattern and the next not touch a fish. I had a tourney there in 2006 where I had five fish day one for 2.54 lbs and day two weighed 17.2 lbs for the comeback win. Heres what worked for me..... Slow rolled spinner bait....White...if possible 1/2 oz. panted willow leaf blades....very slow near rocky areas....The light house flat is a good place for this....interchange with a dropshot if the fish get lazy....if there are dinks on the flat move to the edge near deeper water..... Drop shot and Carolina rigging. If you look at a map...Hwy 17 comes within view from the lake...on the water is is a steep slope....These rigs work great here near wood and rock slides....fish will pre-post spawn on this slope and then move to the other side of the lake near the Red Barrels.....watch for the wing dams there as they will tear up you lower unit.....look for earlt spawners there......Hope this helps!! watch for low water levels as they fill potholes early! Enjoy and let us know how it goes!
  24. Sorry I am just getting back on here....Me and my buddy fished the Open placing 11th out of I believe 112 and I thought they had the results posted but Mardons updated their website and I cannot get a link to the Potholes Bass Club.... The tourney was tough with the Wind-Rain and changing depth as they started re-filling the Res. one week before event after letting Moses Lake fill up....fish were found transitioning back to bedding areas but back on the feedbag so Senkos fished near brush just slayed them!
  25. Hey Glenn...I went Fri.-Sat.and Sun. at the clubs booth and although the overall numbers of folks were down, with all the other activities in town, the Bass Fishing interest was way up! so this is a good thing where the bass anglers are knowing where to go to get their info and hopefully we see more other club participation (34 clubs and only two booths!!) next year.....i am going to suggest we do a series of seminars next year which would mean a bigger booth but the club has alot to share!
