My boat came with about 20 of those things but i don't know the brand! I would say a Wal-Mart one would be just fine!
-
kistler rods.
Does it really matter that much anyways!?! As long as they are producing a great product(and they are) than it shouldn't be that big a deal IMO! I know, support the US but i think Falcon is the only rod co that does still make theirs in the US.

Hooks and weights for t-rigging tubes?
I use a regular T-rig with Tungsten weights and Gamakatsu EWG hooks. I always use the biggest size hook i can fit on the tube.

Carolina Rig Favs and Setup
I don't ever use a leader, even with the braid as the line of choice. I have fished side by side with my bro who does use a leader and there was no difference in the amount of bites really!

kistler rods.
You cannot compare a Legend tournament to a Kistler Magnesium! That is not a level playing field! Put the LT against something like a Helium and than it is a whole new story!!!

Carolina Rig Favs and Setup
I use a 7' 1" Kistler Argon paired with a Revo STX spooled with 20lb XPS fluoro and Gamakatsu EWG hooks for water 20ft or less. If deeper than 20ft i use a Powell Max 766H(7' 6" Mag H/XF) paired with a Revo SX spooled with 65lb braid and same hooks. My favorite lures are 8" Zoom lizards. I will also use 10" Berkley Powerbait worms, Zoom flukes and even Senkos.
-
St. Croix Xtreme rod choices....
I would not use anything under 7' 6" for flippin' in cover. The pitching stick should also be used for T-rigged soft plastics. And for treble hooked lures a slower tip is better at keeping the fish hooked(especially when they jump).

help on a 7:1 reel
The advantage in a 7:1:1 would be burning a Rat-L-Trap, spinnerbait or buzzbait etc with little effort. You can also reel slack line faster when a fish runs towards you. Or make more casts to a strike zone by spending less time reeling in once your lure is out of the strike zone. Slower reels are usually preferred for deep cranks, swimbaits and sometimes flipping heavy cover. It acts as a winch allowing you to work baits deep/slow through the waters resistance with little effort.

Red Eye Shad Hook Broke...
Although i have never had one break i have had them bend out! I always replace mine with Gamakatsu trebles.
