Two Fish Finders
Hap_Hazard, Are you installing it on a bass boat for bass fishing or are you trolling? If it's for bass fishing install it on the trolling motor You'll be watching whats under the front of your boat instead of whats behind it. I use the dash mount for running down the lake and for looking for structure. Once I have found the structure I'm looking for I put down the trolling motor and use the front locator to stay in contact with the structure. If it's for trolling then the back of the boat would be fine.

basic color selection
From some of the books and articles that I have read, the darker lures black, blue and red cast a darker sillouette in muddy or stained water. I can't go into the depth that the book does but it makes sense when you read it. The book I'm talking about is Advanced Bass Fishing by John Weiss. I found my copy on e-bay for less than $7.00 and that included shipping. It's a hard bound 381 page bass encyclopedia. I've had it for about 2 months and I have taken a lot of the things that I have read and tried them on the water and had good success with them.

Skitter Popper and Zara Spook
You want to walk the dog with a spook like Senko 77 said, but you have to let the fish dictate what speed, pauses, etc that you need to work the lure. I also walk the dog with a popper, you have to use a loop knot, I have caught fish by walking it a few inches then pausing it or by constant walking or by using the twitch twitch pause retrieve.

Growth and evolution
That is some excellent advice. I've been fishing since late April with the intention of learning as many techniques and presentations as possible in order to be the most versatile angler that I can be. My plan is to fish the BFL Okie division as a co-angler next year. And I foresee that I will need to be as versatile as I can in order to catch fish behind some very good anglers. Also being versed in many methods allows one to put something in front of the fish that maybe they haven't seen yet.

Just a word of advice
Bowjunkie35, I bought a 1999 Javelin back in April of this year. It had a 150 johnson on it also a 1999. The 3rd time I had it on the water the oil injection system quit working and i lost 2 cylinders. I called the place where I bought the boat and they told me to bring it back and they would fix it. They rebuilt the two bad cylinders, and I asked them to disable the oil injection system. Which they gladly did. The only problem I had was that they couldn't disable some of the sensors so the no oil light stayed on. Even though I was mixing my oil and fuel I still ended up losing 2 different cylinders a couple weeks later. I called up the dealer where I bought the boat, they said bring it back and offered to put a new powerhead on the motor or sell me a different boat. I bought a 2001 Triton with a 150 johnson and I use the injection system, I haven't had any problems with this one and I'm very pleased with it.

Fish following the bait during retrieval.
I've had the same problem for the last couple weeks. I fish a lake in northeastern Ok, that is clear I've been fishing a watermelon seed fluke and have caught several small 14" bass by killing the bait when I see them following it back to the boat. they'll slowly sink with it and when it dissapears from my view they hit it.

Bottom Contour
Fishinfool, I'm having the same problem, I have Lowrance Electronics on my boat so I went to their website. They have an awsome tutorial showing how to use your depth finder and interpret what it is you're seeing. If yours isn't lowrance check and see if the brand you have has a web site tutorial. Good luck!!

Braided line
I also have a question on the braided line. I've been wanting to switch to braid on my flippin ,worm, jig rod, but it's a heavy action rod with a fast tip. Would I be better off buying a different rod say a medium or medium heavy for fishing with braid, or will my current rod be ok???

Best Bass Fishing Magazine?
Bassmasters is a good one, quite a bit of info, plus you get the tournament results. I like Bassin also, some fairly good articles in there. FLW outdoors would be a great magazine if it were all about bass fishing. My hope is that some day the Walleye, redfish, and Kingfish tours will get their own magazine.

Read this if you want to get sponsors PART 1
Earthworm77, As a not so young angler, I have just recently been bitten by the tournament fishing bug. I love to bass fish and I love competition. My heart used to be in bow hunting for deer and participating in 3-d shoots. I had a one local sponsor, an archery shop where I conducted all my buisiness. My sponsorship was for discounted product in return for wearing their logo, promoting their shop, and working in the shop on evenings and some weekends ( when I was not shooting in a tournament ). Your advice is right on the money. It's not what a sponsor can do for you, but what you can do for your sponsor.

Golf course ponds!!!
My buddies Uncle owns a golf course, we used to fish some of the ponds that were off the course but on the property, most were small, you couldn't quite cast across them, but they were full of bass. The best ones were two strip type ponds on the 17th hole they laid right on the fairway. We only fished those on rainy days and we caught several 6 & 7 lbers there. My brother-in-law is the caretaker of the Henryetta municiple golf course, he's been trying to get me to come fish the ponds down there but I have'nt made it there yet.

Coming in for a landing
That just plain 'ol stinks !!! I've broken off 7 or 8 big fish this year, using Trilene big game clear in 14 lb. At first I thought it was my knot, I was using the trilene knot so I switched to the polymer knot. Then I broke off a couple more so I switched knots again, after breaking off still more fish, I switched line. P-line flouroclear 10lb test, haven't broken one off since. I was breaking off when I set the hook.

What do you pull your boats with?
2005 Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton single cab Vortec V-6 5spd standard pulling 2000 Triton TR-186 with a 150 Johnson. I haven't had any problems getting up the ramps, and some of the ones on Skiatook lake are pretty steep. Also, I'm getting around 18mpg pulling the boat.

Boat Rankings
Sam, I just bought my first fiberglass boat back in April. I originally bought a 1999 Javelin, but the motor went out on it twice in 4 weeks. I bought it used from a reputable dealer and they warranted it the first time, the second time they offered to put a new power head on the motor or sell me a different boat. I bought a 2001 Triton TR-186 dual console with a 150 johnson on it and I love it. Now after all that heres my point, I took 4 boats out to the lake before I bought one, and it's a lot of personal preference. When you get ready to buy do it just like you would a car, drive before you buy.

How to read depth finder?
I'd have to agree with gamblerOH looks like a charge indicator or maybe even power setting indicator.

senko basics
I wore out a bag of these things in watermelon, and I have't caught a fish on them. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I've tried all the things mentioned above and on the links provided by Glenn. I can go down the same bank fish the same color super fluke the same way and catch several bass.

Fullmoon
I've been deer hunting for 30yrs, and there is quite a bit of science that proves mammals and fish feed when the moon is overhead (major time) or underfoot (minor time). If you'll think about it, when is the full moon overhead? at night. Then 12 hrs later it's underfoot. I don't have the logs to substantiate this when it comes to fish, but those of you that do check and see when you catch your fish during the new moon. I'll bet it's in the middle of the day. Thats when the new moon is overhead.
