  1. Oh Man, I forgot about that little trick. In clear water, it can be the diff between a few and lots of bass. Also, with less wind resistance than a skirt, the fluke flies better. We all know those props are not happy when they are airborne. hookset on 3
  2. A-Jay, you know what seems to be working for me these past 2 weeks? Speed! Burning cranks, topwater, scroungers etc. Total reaction bite. Other than that, I've nailed a bunch on jerkbaits, both floating and suspending. hookset on 3
  3. The Heddon Pop n' Image and Spit n' Image. Don't get a lot of press, but are top quality lures that last for years. They catch the fire out of bass!
  4. Owner Twistlock is the best bait holder, bar none. The 3X stout needle point is lethal!

  6. That's a big ol Northern Largemouth. Some bassers in the Northeast, go their whole lives and never catch a lunker like that. Congrats on a very special bass.
  7. One of the Bass Resource sponsors, Siebert Outdoors, makes a great jig for short money. check out the elite jig for coming thru cover real nice. The Boss swim jig in my avatar is a favorite, too.
  8. Try these Owner Ultraheads. They're perfectly balanced, so they come thru the weeds nicely while swimming along. I also use the Buckeye Goby Sled head for weedless soft plastic rigging.
  9. Yes, because the the twistlock prevents the hook eye from pulling out. I put a dab of mend-it in there to hold the Ika in place, too.
  10. Here is my favorite hook for the Fat Ika: Owner Twistlock 3X with the centering pin. For real deep water or a windy day I shove a small tungsten nail weight thru the nose. You should see that thing glide away from you with that rig!
  11. This is my first season, out of 35, that I have to say, I would switch to all Powell rods, if I had the cake. Like they said ,for the cost vs. performance ratio, never seen anything come this close. Powell Power!
  12. Son, that there's some chunks with big shoulders as we say!
  13. Good Job! I was in Tucson to visit my girlfriend in March and got a few chances to go fishing. It's beautiful country out there and the bass fishing's pretty darn good too. I hit them good down on Arivaca Lake, but no 5lbers,that's for sure. Let's take a look at that lunker, when you get a chance.
  14. I completely agree, the Ika is deadly. Don't tell anyone that fishes your body of water, though.
  15. It's funny, but I need to be more open minded about what to use in back of a jig skirt. I primarily thread on a creature bait, but I'll have to try the plastic worm set-up. That 10" Power Worm with the skirt will keep the dinks away, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip A-Jay.
  16. This is the Boss hub I'm using to make up my "A-Jay Rig". It's kickin for sure!
  17. Try Wyassup Lake in North Stonington for smallmouth. Pachaug Pond for largemouth.
  18. Tell your son- Great Bass! I'm loving that pond, too. Looks just like the ones I fish out of my canoe, down the road a piece in Rhode Island.
  19. Congrats to your wife, Lynn. That is a true North Country lunker. Gotta love summertime up north. You two will be talking about it for a long time. hookset on 3
  20. My home lake is very clear, so using dark colors like junebug are conditional. It needs to be dawn or dusk and for about an hour, the junebug color is the best one in my box. Overcast days are just ok for june bug, but something about the low angle of the sun, that gives off that purple sky look, is the ticket.
  21. That's what we're talking about in New England . Good Job, keep it up.
  22. I'd just like to hear the sound that reel makes, when you lay into 'em. Drag all crying for Uncle!
  23. Awesome Fishing Report. Great pics. Now, go get some shut - eye.
  24. There are many good logical replies to this thread. I just want to add that, bass do NOT see colors like humans do, in a lot of the color spectrum. We really don't know how chartruese looks from a bass point of view.
