  1. Try the count down method with your jig to see what depth you are fishing in. By determining the rate of fall you will have an idea of how long it takes to reach the bottom. I mention this because, very often, a bass will grab it on the fall. If the jig stops falling before the usual time it takes in your current bottom depth, pop 'em good. One more thing, bass will often suck in the jig on the fly and start swimming towards deeper water immediately. When you set the hook and feel slack in the line, it is probably because he is swimming straight at you and then under the boat. Reel your line in as fast as you can, to catch up to the bass. Lunkers are notorious for this, because they do not share well with others. hookset on 3 P.S. mine is a very fast 3 count. Drop the rod tip, reel up the slack, set the...
  2. X2. These are the most balanced, straight running jig heads I've ever fished. Extremely weedless and Owner sharp. They also have a Spring on Shank, which really holds the bait in place.
  3. The monsters have a way of exploiting everything about the way you hooked and fought them. If your hook isn't needle sharp or you couldn't stick her hard enough on the set, it's bye bye. I hooked a giant last month in a golf course pond on a jig. She hit in one corner of the pond and swam as fast as possible over to a culvert pipe that was nowhere near her, just so she could get inside of that thing to run my line across the sharp edge and snap me off. They get big by being really clever. hookset on 3
  4. Steve, I read all your posts and I can't remember the last time you've mentioned the weight of any of your hogs. Anyways, maybe it's the start of a much appreciated inclusion in your photos and videos. My quess is between 12 and 13. hookset on 3
  5. What depth do you think the crank was in when you were getting bit? Was the lure still diving or were you at the bottom of i'ts depth rating? I ask because that tells you what part of the water column they were feeding or holding in.
  6. Try the Rage Tail Eeliminator. Please open the link I attached to read how to fish it in your conditions you described. Good Luck, hookset on 3 http://www.ragetail....eliminator.html
  7. Try Junebug or Black with blue.
  8. Big O with a bug eyed slaunch! It's every week, Dude. Like Rangerphil said, you ARE livin' the Dream!
  9. Great Story. Congrats on the 8 plus. I just started using the Ripple Shad in Gold Shiner this year. One of my local holes produced a 5lber on that bait and the average fish on all other lures is much smaller. So, I'm with you on the swimbait train.
  10. Paul, those are pigs! Is that swimbait the ABT Banshee?
  11. That's a beauty! Nice size for New England. I used to live in Acton.
  12. I like the screw-lock jigs by Oldham. Gamakatsu hooks, full skirts with silicone and mylar.

  14. I agree with Sam. This is a look that bass are not accustomed to and they really like it. I read that Gary Yamamoto has been using this technique with a small wood screw, because it is less likely to lose the screw when a bass jumps and shakes their head. hookset on 3
  15. Watermelon with any number of different flakes depending on the color of the body of water I'm on and the type, time of day.
  16. What Mumpy said. The other night, using my oldest Devil's Horse, the flouro knot slipped through the little gap in the hook eye, while getting ready to lip a bass and then watched in horror as he swam away into the dark tannin stained water. If it's any consolation, he had the lure choked half way down and sideways, so he might not be very long for this world. I've been meaning to cull some fish out of this farm pond for a while anyway. hookset on 3
  17. hookset on 3 What Big O says takes a quick 3 count. Works for me.
  18. That is a monster for Idaho. Cherish that memory, as that lunker has to be in the top percentile, size wise for you're latitude. Great Job!
  19. I'm here to tell you that drop shottin' catches more and more of my shallow water fish. This includes a lot of bigger bass, that turned their nose up, at a well placed jig or texas rig the previous cast! For pressured bodies of water, there is nothing like it. I have been hitting a stained lake for the last couple of weeks with all of the power fishing techniques with mixed results. The minute I put on a drop shot with small soft plastics, it was one after another. So, keep up the good work, Smokinshad.
  20. Deep, that's a Commonwealth of Virginia, Trophy Bass for certain.
  21. GMan, what kind of scent is it made with?
  22. How about this skipping jig made by Lunker City? This thing must skip like greased lightning. Anyone tried it, yet? I have used this goby sled rigged with a tube and it's been pretty effective.
  23. jkarol, that's exactly what I was thinking. Back in the day, we threw black jigs, buzzbaits and worms. This, by the way, was during daylight in stained or murky water.
  24. It's been 6 years since this post. Any additional thoughts on a black crankbait?
  25. LMAO! Oh man that just struck me so funny! Anyway, Jeff, beauty of a bass with a great all-around set up. I've got that reel in a 5.3-1 for crankin' and I dig it.
