  1. I agree with the above posts. I use a bullet head with a 28degree for my grass jigs. I just was trying to get some of my existing 60 or 90 degree plain jig heads to be a little better coming thru sparse grass and weeds. I know they'll never come through the heavy stuff. Almost all of the bodies of water I fish here in Southern New England, have some type of vegetation on the bottom, even if it's only an inch or two.
  2. X2. Spro and Norman Pro Edge, come stock with Gamakatsu. The others have "good" quality Mustads, VMC or even Daichi.
  3. K Mac, on with you on this one. In today's economy, I just don't have the resources to chuck a three pronged treble, just because one point got a little dull. I'm referring to the VMC and Mustad hooks. I fun fish and will take a minute to touch up a point with my pocket hone or file. Now, I want to be clear, that given the choice, the stock trebles on cranks almost always get swapped out for Gamakatsu or Owner, when I first take them out of the package.
  4. Ok Guys, here is my dilemma. grass and weeds get caught in the space in front of jig head eyelet. It is a 90 degree angle that I would like to try and build it up in some way, to help it shed more moss or grass that gets stuck there. Here is a picture of a new style Owner Jig head that has this feature. So, I've got tons of existing jigs that I would like to replicate this style Let me know your thoughts on this one. Thanks, Tony
  5. Excellent Post AK. This is a good post to Bookmark. covers size and color considerations.
  6. Location Optimization. In Bass Fishing an angler needs to understand the values of the different variables that go into making a "sweet spot" as Rolo mentioned, a preferred area for bass to be. The reason for this Apex predator to take up residence in a certain locale usually revolves around food, safety, and comfort.
  7. I must admit, growing up we threw Husky Jerks, Bomber Long A's, Rougues etc. Two years ago a Dick's Sporting Goods nearby had a clearance bin full of Lucky Craft Pointers and Slender Pointers for, get this, $3.64 each! I cleaned them out and scored maybe a dozen. Well....forward to present, the lures just flat catch 'em. I've tried some of the others when they are biting the Pointers, but it's really no contest. Tell you what, if you ever see them priced anywhere close to what I paid, grab every single one that your wallet will stand.
  8. Really Kent? Would have never thought of that app. Good one!
  9. Alright, here we go.... Johnson's Silver Minnow weedless spoon. Yeah and throw a Uncle Josh white 3" Ripple Rind on the back of it as a trailer.
  10. The Ish Biggie Square Bills are fantastic. Used them this past year with tremendous success. Perch and Bluegill colors are on point! Like most of the River 2 Sea line of products, they tend to be overbuilt and hardly ever skimp on materials or components. Get ya some!
  11. Another vote for the Havoc baits " The Jerk" for soft plastic jerkbaits. The shimmy on the descent is a really effective strike trigger. I've watched it in very clear water and it looks so natural. Fakes out the big girls, too.
  12. Cool. Yeah, that website is truly like the encyclopedia for terminal tackle. http://www.tacklemaking.com/ Check it out Guys!
  13. Try this website for split ring sizing guide. http://www.tacklemaking.com/default.php?pageID=59
  14. Like BlueBasser said, on a split shot or c-rig they are the best. Great to use over submerged weed beds. One thing on rigging these, is that a jig or shaky head with the thin pin type bait holders are hassle free for rigging Elaz-tech.I like a Jewel J-lock or A Mart's new Alien Head from Gamakatsu.
  15. Been fishing bout 48 years and got myself this past April for the first time. A Lucky Craft Pointer with brand spanking new Owner ST- 36 size 4 trebs got me in the index finger. It was near dark and freezing cold when I lipped a bass and he did a double pump slam into my finger. The problem was, my fingers were numb from the cold so when I realized he got me it was already past the barb. Drove 10 miles to an Urgent care. They had one of those fancy bolt/wire cutters they were trying to use. The Dr. was a young 30 something women and she had a heck of a time cutting off that Owner treble. Now I know why I've always been a big Owner Hook guy! No one's going to tell me they've straightened out an ST36 treble, that's for sure.
  16. Great Day of fishing way up in Maine. Those are some real big uns for those parts. I have to ask a question that's off topic, but I've thought about after reading a few of your recent posts. Does your hometown have the LONGEST name in the entire Northeast? lol. Winchestertonfieldville
  17. Kansas Lunkers for sure. That's a slammin' bag you would have weighted in there, Clay.
  18. Welcome to my neighbor to the North. There's plenty of diehard Bassers on this forum, so we like that you really got into it this year. Now you can spend the Winter learning some of the ways to fake out these fish we chase.
  19. Your going to miss some beautiful, serene days like we had here in New England today. 60 degrees, with lights winds and no other boats. I like to observe nature from shore or on the boat. We watched flocks of geese and other waterfowl flying overhead in the telltale V formation of birds migrating South for the Winter. Oh, I did get skunked but my cousin got a 2lber. on a Reaction Innovations 4 inch Skinny dipper.
  20. Tip- when cinching, start by pulling the tag end to bring the loops up snug with each other. Then let go of tag end while drawing the knot up fairly tight to the lure eye or split ring. I then make micro adjustments to get the knot tight by pulling on both the tag end and lure tie alternately.
  21. Remember when jig and eels where popular. That's essentially what you're throwing. I know guys that use a chewed up Senko as their trailer. They just trim back the torn part and thread it on their jig from the same end that was cut back.
  22. A Man's got to do, what a Man's got to do.( or Women) It's kind of a sad state of affairs that we need to be secretive about Honey Holes, but that's the reality of fishing. The smaller ponds just can't take the fishing pressure. Once the word gets out, you might as well start scouting for another pond.
  23. Alright, so it's Chatterbaits and jigs. How do you vary your jig presentations? I like to pitch in cover, swim through wood and any green weeds left over. Then as it gets colder it's dragging or small hops on the bottom. In cold water, pork is more lifelike than a lot of soft plastics. In particular, I use small to medium size pork frogs. Do you ever use Uncle Josh pork products?
  24. We're at 41north latitude, same as you guys. Still fish being caught, but the numbers aren't that great.
  25. good write-up Clay. Those where really fat footballs you guys nailed at the pond. Keep that place on the low-down, right?
