  1. I have a Revo S on a 7' MH Veritas and I love the combo. If I had to go back and spend the money again I would get the same gear. I love it. I would reccomend getting the Abus. I was on the fence because of the breakage of the Veritas, but mine has been strong for the first 8 months and it feels great. I have not used any of the other reels in your post so I cant compare, but I am very happy with my purchase.
  2. I have a veritas and a vendetta and I like the vendettas but I love the veritas. I feel like the Veritas has much more sensitivity. Its by far my favorite rod I own
  3. nice! Where did you get the lip?
  4. Ive used football WR gloves before. They are mostly just for a windbreak, but they fit my hands well and i can feel alot with them, I had one fly out of the boat though, so im at one now.
  5. I like both Baby and standard size. Green Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin Purple, Watermelon Red, and Watermelon Candy are my favorite colors.
  6. I was worried about getting a Veritas because of the breaking as well, but I thought I would give it a shot because of the 3 year warrenty. I love it. As others have said, make sure everything is straight and looking good when your buying it, if you choose the Veritas. Also, as others have said, its much stiffer than advertised, by I really like the stiffness of the 7' MH for Jigs. I have a Revo S, and it feels really good. I hope we are helping you make a decision
  7. I have lost some legs like this as well, but if you replace them with spinnerbait/jig skirt material, they work just as well if not better than before
  8. good luck, man. Just keep trying it, you will figure it out and then have a bunch of fun
  9. Ive tried to bend those suckers as well, and they are solid. I however have got the timeing down on the hookset and I have been about 90% this summer on hookups. I would like to find out how to bend those suckers as well though. Hope you figure it out, bro
  10. My friend, I am not sure if you are fishing a deep pond or a small pond that is really not too deep. If its a pond that is not too deep, fish have nowhere to go when it gets really hot, so they will find any shade possible, which means you need to get a bait to the shade which means weedless. One of the baits I use in the middle of the summer more than anything is a follow bodied frog. I prefer the Spro. I can get that in the deepest cover possible. That is one of my most productive baits in the summer
  11. These spinnerbaits will work. i typically use these when im out enjoying the weather. i dont use them if im doing serious fishing. not the best quality, but they will work
  12. Ive got a question for y'all using the Megastrike jig heads. I started using spot removers a while back and the gap on the hook was not nearly big enough for thick worms or plastics, like a brush hog. They were fine for baby brush hogs and skinny worms, but the point of power shaky head is for bigger thicker baits, right? So, do those MegaStrike jig heads have enough gap, or do they offer EWG jigheads? I found a local store in Kentucky when I go and I stock up on the wide gap jig heads so i can power shakey. This place also has a little local guy who makes some floating baits in similar shapes like a Brush Hog and big 10" Ribbon tail worms. They are pretty sweet cause those jokers stand STRAIGHT up in the water. Thanks guys!
  13. I bought their first reel and loved it, still do! I wasnt sure about getting it cause it was high priced and i didnt have too much to spend at the time, but I had the bass pro reel trade in offer. Anyway, the president of the company told me that he would give me (a young college kid) $40 to the reel if I were to send him an email letting him know how I like it. He said he knew I would be a life long Ardent lover if I bought the reel. Gotta say, I love my reel and am looking to get another this year possibly. I have a flipping stick with no reel and that F500 looks like a perfect fit, too bad they are all sold out now.
  14. I really had some good luck with the Eakins jigs. Or Look at Walmart or your local tackle shop for Jewel Finnesse jigs and pig them with a Zoom lil critter craw for the trailer. That will catch a bunch of fish
  15. Hey man, I just saw this post. My first reel I got was a Spirex and it has preformed amazingly for a long while. As I was reading your first post, I immediatly thought of the Spirex. As for a rod, (If you are close to a Bass Pro) I would look into the Bass Pro Bionic Blade rod (The Maroon and Red one, not the White). that is what I have my Spirex paired with and I have caught too many fish to count on it. Those are $80. Very reasonably priced, sensitive, and a tough rod. I hope you have better luck with your next rod. P.S. I was like you and didnt want to start to try the baitcaster cause it seemed like a pain the tooshy with the backlashes and stuff. It really isnt too bad. As you get better you can loosen it up and throw the bait further. I have trouble picking my spinning reels up anymore. But, I understand wanting to stick with what you know. Keep catching those fish!
  16. I went fishing the other day on the first day of a cold front. It had been about 85 most of the week and it dropped to about 75. I went out with a frog cause Ive become adicted to fishing frogs this summer and there is so much junk on the bottom of the pond, if I throw a jig or T-Rig, it will pick up all the junk. Anyway, what is everyones favorite bait and/or presentation to use durring a cold front?
  17. Just keep throwing it! Change up presentations to see if that helps. It sounds like everything you are doing is fine, and you are catching fish, just not the quality you want. If you continue throwing it and experimenting with it, you are going to learn and gain more confidence. I would keep throwing it off the friends dock and catching small fish, eventually a big fish will hit it. There are times when you wont catch a thing on a jig, but when you get on a jig bite, you will love it. Just keep practicing it and you will get better and gain confidence.
  18. I fish Kentuky Lake every year and my Unlce and I go to The Cabin and spend at very least an hour looking before deciding what we want. Little Mom and Pop shops have the local things that big chain stores dont carry. I would much rather go to litlte mom and pop shops. If I lived near one, I would be there a few times a week, looking around and talking to the people in there.
  19. BIgBill, how does it feel? Looks nice. Good find!
  20. my friend, if this deal is not present at your Academy, they are sure to have other great deals. ITs the cheapest place I have seen to get Zoom Plastics lately and Spro Frogs are only $7.99, so that will save you a few bucks right there if you use them. I wish I wasnt an hour and a half away, but then again, I would be broke cause I would keep spending money there if I was closer
  21. try a zoom lil critter craw in green pumpkin for that first one. It is a really good little bait for a trailer.
  22. sorry man, its about an hour and a half away so I only get out there occasionally. If anyone else is closer to the Springfield MO Academy, that is where they were
  23. I was at Academy the other day and saw Trokar worm hooks for $2.99 a pack. I got a few packs, since they are normally sooo expensive. Just something you may look at when you are out, if you use Trokar hooks
  24. Thats rad! Let us know if it works
