  2. Mr Nixon started out like many of us with Abu Gracia Ambassadeur® 5000 & then move up to Ambassadeur® C4. Casting accuracy is very important in shallow water, it's equally as important in deep water & a little more difficult.
  3. It amuses me when casting distance is discussed with no mention of the rod being used. Rods cast...reels hold line A rod that is to stiff or to soft will greatly effect both distance & accuracy.
  4. I can almost guarantee y'all ain't got no ^secret" spots, someone fished it before you & someone will fish it after you. Look up my thread on Toledo Bend, I give general locations, not exact way points, or what I'm throwing. That thread has 1.6m views, many anglers fish those spots, get skunked, & say the guy Catt doesn't know what his talking about. I just grin & wink ?
  5. If I'm throwing a topwater & I bass blows up on it but misses it, I will drop that rod on the deck, pick up a Texas Rigged plastic (weighted or unweighted) & cast to the exact spot of the blow up. This quite often results in the bass picking it up believing it killed what it hit. Thus the name follow up lure.
  6. Exactly what Ben Milliken said about throwing big swimbaits first which is why he throws them before leaving an area.
  7. I have been fishing on Toledo Bend for 54 yrs, I'm quite sure the spots I know are visited by others. Seen em ?
  8. IKD! If I know the fish are there, I'm going straight to the bottom. Y'all start with "moving" baits up in the water column, then slow down & go to the bottom. I do throw "moving" baits but I seldom start out with one.
  9. My preferred scenario is 15' of water, plus or minus 3'. Reasoning, this is the depth at which Hydrilla, Coontail, & Milfoil stops growing. This is what's considered the "outside" grassline. I ain't talking the visible wall of a grass mat but the outer edge you have to locate with electronics. Next turn out the lights the party is just starting. Why want for a cloudy day when darkness comes every evening?
  10. There are several spots on Toledo Bend where I'm anchored a little over casting distance from boat lanes. I just sit back & watch em zoom on by!
  11. When faced with shallow clear water & needing some distant on the cast.
  12. 22 yrs ago Carolann surprised me by asking to one of my rods. To my astonishment she starts casting my Calcutta with zero backlashes. I asked her how, she said I heard you explain it to the boys. She caught 3 bass on a Texas Rig & says that it, that's easy! I just smiled ?
  13. Now I know my problem...I ain't that good at math.
  14. 12 hours in rice did nothing! It was on the edge of the lavatory, something I never do is bring my phone in the bathroom. There wasn't but a 1/4" of water but the phone slide down stopping with just the top submerged. The top is where the speaker is & some other opening. Slowly recovering data daily.
  15. All Star & Castawys make some really good rods. Academy H2O Xpress Ethos Nano are very sensitive.
  16. Biologists research supports that. Biologists research doesn't support that, it totally depends on the body of water. One also has to take into the overall population of the bass. One also has to define "large" bass.
  17. Cell phones don't like water! It only takes 1/4" to fry one & a week+ to get most of my data back.
  18. Shallow & deep are relevant to the body of water. On Toledo Bend 20-25' is considered shallow compared to the surrounding area. Size of bass shallow vs deep again is revelant to the body of water. Toledo Bend has over 1,200 miles of shoreline (shallow water), it has 190,000 acres offshore.
  19. Barometric pressure to me is kinda like water temperatures. I'm aware of it but I'm going fishing anyway. It's my job everyday to find the bass & then get them to bite. I don't spend a lot of time on things I can't control.
  20. You can change the rate of fall of a jig with different size trailers or different skirt materials or higher strand count. If the jig is taller than it is wide it's going to fall over. In my little Cajun pea brain it's about which direction the hook point is facing when the bass picks the jig up. Could be totally wrong but it makes me feel better.
  21. What i look for in a heavy cover jig be it grass or wood. Look at the hook eye in relationship to the hook point, it almost like a Texas Rig, straight in line. The head is wider than it is tall so it doesn't fall over when sitting on the bottom. There are only 3 jigs I throw & all for the same reason, the eye in relationship to the point. Hack Attack Fluorocarbon Oldham's EyeMax Siebert Outdoors Supreme Grass The only reason I'm throwing a Fluorocarbon more is availability, sometimes I can't wait far an order to come in. With the Texas Rigged Jig I ain't trying to emulate a jig, I'm changing profile & rate of fall.
